Inverted: A Dark Isekai Fantasy Novel

Description
A desolate city, a frozen ruin, a relic of the past, were all appropriate descriptions of the place Liam found himself. Where was he? How did he get here? And why was he here? If he wanted answers, his only option was to survive. But how? With no distinct skills, the only thing that set him apart was his bitter past, which had shaped him into the cold, pessimistic and distrustful person he was.
‘So,’ Liam thought, ‘it isn’t any different.’
Starting with nothing wasn’t new for him, and as before, he would forge ahead into this unfamiliar land of abnormalities, monsters, and magic.
Release Schedule (Changed):Haitus
A general note:This is my first time writing anything (outside of academic papers). So, there are many things I’m learning and working on improving as the progresses.

- 13lack12oseRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Although he's definitely a sociopath, so I guess there's that too, lol.
A fun interesting read with light litrpg elements (big plus some me, hate overused blue boxes).
The world is grimdark to the extreme with the 'summoned hero's' being a common commodity and therefore noting special (which is a new take on the genre for sure).
Very fun read thus far, looking forward to more!
Thanks, NojaD for the great tale :) - Droy17Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Wow this is cool. A realistic approach of isekai and the author have good grammar and the character felt real and the response of other character other than the mc isn't forced which is good.
You need to read this. - xcaresRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's still early to really review but.... it's been very good so far.
Really interesting use of the multiple POVs. Especially with people that end up dead XD - alistrateRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Firstly, in my opinion the story is very well written. I haven't noticed any grammar errors (maybe a typo once or twice). I agree the story starts off slow but that isn't a negative in my view.
The major issue people seem to have is with the "annoying" characters and while I can't stand some of them, it would be foolish to think these types of people don't exist. I'm sure everyone reading this story has met people like the characters in real life.
What the author does well is giving the readers the back story of some of the characters. Once you read how they justify their actions it gives a sense of realism to them. You might not like how they act but at least it's consistent with their world view.
Overall this makes for a great story that I highly recommend.
Spoiler: Spoiler
On the subject of how Liam doesn't help Isabelle when she's being attacked by the dogs. I have to say that his actions are a result of her constant attempts at destroying his self esteem. I disagree that this makes him an asshole as another reviewer describes him as.
The author has shown that Liam can work together with others and put himself in danger for others if they are also willing to work together. The problem with Isabelle is that since the beginning of the story she expected everyone to help her without doing anything for others. From the minute Liam and Isabelle are alone together she verbally attacks him for no reason. Even when she is having her moment of clarity she still tries to manipulate him so from my pov he made the right decision.
She seems like she could more dangerous to her companions than the dogs. At least you know the dogs are always trying to kill you. With her you could never trust her with your back, she seems likely to stick a knife in it whenever she thinks it would be beneficial for her. - Ankur_93Royal Road★★★★ 4.0This is a good first draft, I'd say. But it definitely needs revision.
The first few chapters are annoying to read and there is little point in them. Most of the text is useless too. You don't have to explain each and every little decision and go into a lengthy summary of why it was the way it was. This is most evident in your last chapter, [chapter 28] what was the point of the discussion about whether the MC is 1 month old in this world or not? It spans half of the chapter, why?
That chapter is also evident in weird dialogue placement and shifts.
I'd say, you can cut this book in half in editing and it wouldn't effect the story.
I hope you pick this up again. All the best! - JacksaunRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I'm at the lastest chapter (Ch.25 currently)
First off - if you are used to pyschopath MC's who kill irritants within seconds of being dropped in a new world you won't like this story. If you are used to instant power up MC's where they get OP quickly and rarely struggle, you won't like this story. There will be characters that piss you off, and if you can't handle their presence in the story for a few chapters then you won't like this story.
This story is a legitimate realistic take on a grim-dark isekai. There are likeable characters in this story who you want to play some CoD with, and there are characters you want to falcon punch in the throat. MC is pretty cold, but isn't someone who murders others no problem and he has his own principles (which make sense, just think about them when he makes decisions you think contradict them as up to this point they are easily justified). I have not seen any issues with the grammar, and the flow is good. The only complaint I have so far is that the Author has a talent in writing irritating characters who make you want to force liquid sandpaper down their throats to shut them up. This is a good story (especially considering this is the Author's first attempt at story writing), and while it has some issues such as continous irritating situations it's enjoyable to read. I recommend giving it a shot, and when you encounter annoying characters who you can't stand - take heart, most of them die. Can't win them all. - dak'konRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5I want to start by saying the I liked the premise, this is the logical conclusion to summoning heroes. Getting a workforce you could call from abroad(another world) worked like this in our history as often as not.
The other parts of the story are less successful, the world is not as fleshed out as I would expect after almost 30 chapters this is easily explained by the relative ignorance of the main character.
The real problem is the characters, the MC is flashed out but not very likable, that is true for most of the character.
The characters remind me of anime - everyone has a dominant trait that his personality built around, most of the time it's a negative one and inflated so much as to make the character seem like a caricature.
Oh, and everyone is an asshole. - ArtdgiRoyal Road★★★ 3.0The writing is good don't get me wrong and the setting (from what little I have seen) seems interesting the characterizationhowever is kinda meh with the characters while not very expanded upon this being the very start and whatnot seem kinda one dimensional and very cliched.
However the deal breaker for me is simple: the Mc is an asshole, a remorseless unsipathetic asshole.
Now let me explain why: in the last character I read upon discovering a magical barrier capable of stopping the moster chasing him and a girl what does he do?
1 Warns the girl (which was behaving kinda like a bitch) so she can at least have a chance at saving herself at no personal risk
or
2 Shout good luck and walk alone towards a castle surrounded by a magical barrier with basically no protection
If you chose option 2 you guessed right furthermore to rub some salt in the wound the entire chapter is from the perspective of the girl realing the error of her ways and apolgizing which could have been a good moment for the mc to shout about the barrier showing a bit of humanity from the mc perspective instead of him callously ignoring her and after she is dead expressesing annoyance at how loud she was now.
I get cold MCs I don't particularly enjoy them BUT there is a difference between being distant and being an asshole, a self destructing one might I add, since at the start he told himself to try and cooperate with other people to survive.
Now he might improve but from what I have seen he has just worsened in his decision making and my simpathy for him with it: opportunities for him to show some humanity maybe being able to reach out being in a new world and all that jazz continuosly wasted in the face of showing how much of a lone wolf he is!
I don't plan on continuing on reading about loner mc edgy over here and as such my review should be taken with more than a pinch of salt since I won't be updating it - TryptophanRoyal Road★ 0.5Awful characters with stupid tropes. I usually hate overly dark stories but I just kept hoping everyone would die.
- AtreivahaviRoyal Road★ 0.5Author dropped it without an announce. I hate authors don't respect their readers. In these situations I don't think authors even respects themselves. Waste of time.
