Description

Mitch Calvert is 29 years old, an independent wrestler, and a goddamn mess. After suffering an injury during a match and being put on the shelf, he gets dumped by his boyfriend and is forced to yet again pick up the pieces of his life. He struggles with his self worth, combats addiction and trauma, and begrudgingly falls in love with his new roommate that he definitely has no chance with.

But what can he do? He can either take life's beatdown without putting up any resistance, or grab a steel chair and start swinging back.

Interpersonal Chemistryfeatures a cast that's made up of queers, misfits, and wrestlers (sometimes all three) and takes place in the year 2018 in the fictional city of Monument, Massachusetts. It’s rated M, intended for mature audiences only due to sensitive subject matters such as: mental illness, addiction, trauma, violence (typical of the setting), and vulgar language.

Updates are on Mondays and Fridays.

A few years ago, I started writing a story about a guy who wanted to become a pro wrestler and was coming to grips with his sexual orientation at the same time. I thought to myself, "this is terrible, nobody would want to read a book about wrestling and queer people." Well, I guess I still wanted to read a book about wrestling and queer people because when I came across this book on the advanced search feature, I couldn't help but be intrigued even if it had a poor rating. I settled in for a train wreck.
I got a wreck, but only because Mitch is a wreck. So many times I found myself yelling, "no Mitch, don't do it!" But, I still love that bundle of nerves. As many times as I found myself yelling at Mitch as if he were a real person I found myself relating to his emotional state and responses to what was going on around him. How could you read this and not love Avi? I think I've got a crush on Avi at this point, I'm throwing my name into the hat as well. Jodie is the best friend we all want and need. I want nothing but good things for Jodie.
The way you detail emotions and mental states of characters, not just Mitch, through not only descriptions but body language is one of the best examples I've seen on Royal Road, or even all of the novels I've read in the last year or two. I think it's what sets this work head and shoulders above a lot of the work here. When Mitch is having a breakdown, I feel it. I know how he's feeling when he can't open a car door or has a death grip on bed sheets my heart beats faster, my palms get sweaty. When Jodie is upset with Mitch, I know shy she's upset and I understand her side just as much as his. If Avi is flustered, I'm feeling flustered.
I can't wait to read more of the story. It seems like the story is headed into some even wilder territory. Thank you for writing this; it's as if I was missing something I didn't know was lost.

I don't know why this isn't more followed or better reviewed. In a website that is just brimming with LitRPGs that all feel the same, why isn't this stoty standing out more?
The dialogue flows in an amzing natural manner, the action and personal scenes are butter-like, they're so smooth. The highs are few but high the lows are oh God they are low and this book should have been picked up by a traditional publisher instead of being here.
In any case, I wish the author the best and for his story to take off. It deserves better.
