Description

I have a mirror, reflecting the vast mountains and rivers;I have a sword, cutting through the hearts of people and the realm of ghosts;I have a city, standing among the clouds in the nine heavens;I have a heart, laughing at the absurdities along the path of eternal life.

Why do people seek immortality? Because immortality encompasses all desires, and immortality represents infinite possibilities.

This novel is an incredibly niche story reminiscent of actual Chinese mythology and folklore. The cultivation system is softish as far as magic systems go. Involving realms with cultivators making qualitative changes each realm. Techniques are reminiscent of actual Chinese magic techniques. The execution is unlike your average wuxia where the author is lazy. Although the MC seems a little bland and stereotypical at first, he has untold depths. It is a great style of story telling and the grammar seems okay to me. The novel is good with the cliches being handled with expertise. I give it a proud 5/5 in general. As for my gripes with grammar, it sometimes shows in sentence structure that the author isn't a native English speaker but other than that the translation is top notch and everything is well proofread.
The character we follow Yu Ci has many problems, the world itself is quite dangerous to begin with; the story appears to be a xianxia in the wuxia phase. (where the battles are more physical and comprehensible than battles between immortals) Either way we know little about the world beyond the insights of Yu Ci. But from what I understand of it this work is unlike the typical western lense wuxia. Expecting quality work.

This is an incredibly detailed and faithful wuxia novel. It discusses and incorporates Chinese mythology and philosophy meaningfully into the story. There are definitely elements of higher level/xianxia powers and beings, but the story is currently still developing to the point where those are the focus instead of foreshadowing.
The MC is strong, but he is not invincible and I think the methods he survives dangerous situations, although somewhat reliant on luck, are feasible and don't feel too forced. Expounding on this, cultivation progression does have certain milestones that occur during breakthroughs, with the methods the main character uses to reach them being pretty creative.
This is clearly a translation, but an incredibly accurate and faithful one. It's almost too good to believe that this wasn't stolen from elsewhere and reposted to RR. I couldn't find any other English translations of this novel currently being posted asides from the ones by the author, so I'm going to assume that they are in fact the ones doing it.
This story is incredibly slow burn, focusing more on the journey of cultivation rather than action at breakneck speed. There are definitive changes in pace where the MC explores and ponders the nature of cultivation, and others where it's thrilling survival and fights against beings stronger than him. Although I like it, having to wait tens or hundreds of chapters in between breakthroughs may not be the most entertaining idea for everyone. The side characters are also pretty developed in my opinion, able to have their own thoughts and philosophies on cultivation, and I think are another point that helps make this novel so good.

Good novel especially for xianxia/xuanhuan enthusiast. I recommend this novel especially for more experienced webnovel readers. If you haven't read any I would recommend starting with other works as this novel is long/slow and can be sometimes complicated.
The cultivation system is interesting, there is a lot more going on than simply stacking qi/energy or understanding laws as in some novels. Matters such as heart/mindset and personal ideals and philosophy are all important.
Sometimes it became boring but I kept coming back and after finishing the first part of the novel(ch407). I must say it has been satisfying and I finally understand the motives of some characters.
Relations in this novel can be sometimes really complicated, who is friend, foe or neither isn't always so obvious and can change on as characters all have their own aspirations/motivations.
The world is big and as of 407 their are still many mysteries to explore, even for an experienced Xianxia/Xuanhuan reader, the world doesn't feel standard.
My biggest critique would probably be that the MC can sometimes be a bit to reliant on luck, but there are always reasons why things play out as they do. Plus the MC is smart in knowing how and when to strike.
