- Pickle HurlantRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is a slow-paced anime-like comedy featuring a lot of slice of life moments and a lite plot growing stronger as chapters go by. I had a lot of fun.
The style and the grammar are near-perfect, professional. The flow is really pleasant, and the chapters so easy to read and follow you’ll end up binge reading half the uploads during a single lunch break. The immersion is total despite the 3rd person past tense POV. Again, the quality provided by BewareTheChain reach top tiers level for Royal road.
Regarding the story, it firstly reminds me of My Hero Academia or the one where they had to kill the teacher (I suck with japanese animation). It takes place in Hell (cool), in the school (same thing as Hell but w/e) with a MC following the footsteps of Eikichi Onizuka (I suck with anime but I have standards), helping his troublesome students. As you see, the plot is simple but thanks to the episodic construction, it keeps going and going. It is clearly inspired by GTO, which is my favorite manag of all time hence the 5 stars review.
Finally, I loved stories when there is a lot of characters. Especially when the author is able to define them quickly and efficiently. This is something I try to do in The Future That Never Was and I’m very please to see what other people managed to do (and steal it, hehe. No. Maybe. I'll see.). The main character was ok, but I hoped he will evolve and gain some depth in the future. - ArararaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Edit as of chapter 47: still going strong. The whole story's a bit of a slow burn, but more plot starts appearing with time! And more fights, too. Worth it, to me.
I've described it to others as very anime-like, reminding me of Assassin Classroom crossed with The World God Only Knows (or other similiar girl-collecting dating anime shows). The tone is mostly light-hearted, even comedic, like slice-of-life, but things occasionally get serious. There are awesome fight scenes, but there are intense emotional scenes as well. The ecchi is kept to a minimum, but elements of it are there to spice things up a bit. The story knows what it aims for, and it delivers on it.
Onto the categories. Beware minor spoilers!
Style: 5/5
Normal 3rd person past tense perspective. Consistent, with almost no head-hopping. The narration is pleasant, doesn't take itself too seriously, and even cracks a joke every now and then. The style feels very inspired-by-anime, it has some personality. And the upload schedule is nice.
Story: 4.5/5
The MC is a fresh demon teacher in an unfriendly demon academy in Hell, who looks several years younger than he is. He tries to help his problematic class of problematic students turn their lives around. And also to avoid dying in the process, which is easier said than done. Shenanigans ensue. It reads in an episodic fashion, where often a character has a problem, and by the end of the chapter (or mini-arc) it ends up (kinda?) resolved. The premise isn't groundbreaking by any means, but it's good enough. Sets the playing field.
Grammar: 5/5
No issues here. The quality of the writing is almost impeccable. Succint and to the point, nothing too fancy. It's executed well. Easy to get immersed! Decently long chapters, too.
Character: 5/5
This is maybe the strongest part of the story, next to the great worldbuilding and the funny bits. There's a lot of characters, and they have rich backstories slowly revealed to us. Some are walking tropes at first, but when you get - GreyWolfSifRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have only read the prologue so far but I'm already hooked. I love the MC. I cant wait to see where this book goes. I'm sad there are only 2 chapters and I have to wait for more of this book. I really dog this book and keep up the good work!
- BullerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Let me be fully honest. When I read the summary for this chapter, I was expecting a trophy, badly-written, and utterly nerve-spurning fiction that I wouldn't be able to read for four full chapters. Throughout this read, I have realised that I was way too wrong on that aspect.
There weren't any errors with the formatting. In fact, I might just say that the changes from the standard did this fiction well. There might be a few errors with grammar, but all those I could find were minor enough to just make a small shrug at. The style was pretty damn good as well, evening this out to a good 5/5 from me. - Xtreme4traceRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Infernal Academia is a demonic school that is for educating the elite of the demon race. What I like about the series is that we go into it through the perspective of our MC Cobalt who is a lustful demon kind, trying to be a teacher to the next generation. But as it turns out, it's not that simple. He just seems to be having bad luck with every turn. His stuggles is something that's a positive for this series and it makes the reader sympathize with him. The other characters in the series range from brutes, lustful demons, snazzy girls and adorableness.
I'm not really sure if this is an all girls school or if the guys just aren't present enough but so far it's just the MC and a bunch of females. It's not a criticism, just my observation of the first 10 chapters.
Grammatically and structurally, the series is fairly well written. In the beginning I was a bit confused as I didn't know what exactly I was going into but as I read through it, it was a lot easier to read. Some of the sentences do lack a comma or they need to be shortened. I just found a few times where the sentence just didn't have an end to it. It's probably just the writing style of the author so I'm not too fussed.
I liked what I read as the school life and the way Cobalt just needs to navigate through all the obstacles and challenges that come his way are sometimes very funny or very sad. The characters are unique in one way or another and you can definitely see their personalities shine from the diologue and interactions.
I'll come back to this and read more at a later date but if you're looking for a well written story with demons and their way of life and a slight bit of lust thrown in, this is the story for you so check it out of you have the time - octonusRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The writing is good, but the MC has no real personality beyond trying to make the other characters happy.
Everyone spends the story beating up on him, and he just goes along with it without any complaints. While realistic, it's not someone I want to read about.
Filler for idiotic 50 word limit. - Ellen TaylorRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Great read so far. I just love this idea of a crazy demon school in Hell and the adventures they have. And believe me, I've only read a few chapters, but the adventures they go on are indeed wild. The main character is a bit more of a pushover than I usually enjoy in a story, but I still couldn't help but keep reading to find out what crazy things he was going to stumble into that day. I love the school setting, and the world building was great. Getting to know some of the demon classmates was indeed a treat. A lovely read.
- JarexRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Infernal academia is a casual rop through the troubled life of Cobalt trayer, our blue protagonist incubus, as a newly minted schoolteacher in hell. He studied at Oxford, he's got the demonic equivalent of growth-issues and you can be sure that even when he tries to stand up against the supernaturally enhanced bullies (seeni), his face is going to buckle before his morales do.
First off, the characters. Our protagonist is a pushover. That's just how it is. He's frequently bailed out of problems by his students and even in chapter six, I can see the start of a harem forming. Now, this is not too bad. At the point of reading, most of the characters show emotion and agency in one way or another, though my main critique point is that they behave more like characters rather than people. Still, they are written well enough that you can enjoy the story as long as you don't take it too seriously.
Next up, the actual story. Schools as the background for a story tends to be an overused setting, though with the school being in hell and all the teachers and students being a variety of demons, points are given for originality. While I didn't find much that was jarring or out of place for the story this novel is trying to tell, the way the plot moves forward around the first antagonist feels too sudden and unneccessarily obtuse in what is trying to be foreshadowed. But, if you don't care about being as nitpicky as me, strap yourself in for a story that looks to be going down an action-oriented route and doing so to a passable degree.
The style of the story is in my opinion good. Not great, not bad, but just good. The character's emotions are believable at most times, the setting and surroundings are described well enough for the current plot purpose and while there are stereotypes used, they don't bleed too much over the actual character's character or plot's plot.
The grammar is quite good for a story on Royal Road. I haven't noticed many flaws if any at all and suffice to say,
