- TheAngryGnomeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I was expecting a juvenile rewrite of a classic. What I got was a character who isn't perfect or ridiculously op, flawed and learning to cope in a complicated dangerous world. A setting that would seem over used and tired yet somehow comes across new vibrant and complex. The progression makes sense with proper growth and no ridiculous stat explosion. All in all a great read. I'm looking forward to the authors journey n can't wait to see where the story leads.
- GhostDreamerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Amazing novel that packs a punch with its exciting blend of Prog Fantasy and Sci-Fi, making it a must-try for fans of both genres. With strong delivery and only a few minor issues, it shows great potential to become a standout in the progression fantasy scene.
STYLE: 4.5/5. I love fast paced battle and stories. An issues, howerver, is the use of sound effects in dialogue, and the way they are written. It breaks my immersion sometimes.
GRAMMAR: 5/5. Technically, the story is solid. The grammar is clean, with no noticeable issues. My only minor critique is that the repetitive use of certain punctuation marks like "..." at the end of chapters can feel a bit overdone, but it does contribute to the cliffhanger style that autor employs.
STORY: 4.5/5. The concept is straightforward yet compelling: a Power Rangers-inspired world with a sci-fi twist and a progression system. There haven't been too many surprises yet, but the setup leaves room for interesting developments. Fans of progression fantasy and battle/war arcs will find what they’re looking for here.
CHARACTER: 4/5. So far, the characters haven't fully clicked with me. There are several to keep track of, especially with the academy setting, and while they're not flat, I haven't found myself deeply attached yet. That said, the protagonist Oliver is growing on me, and Alan is a standout in the cast. The hinted love interest subplot isn’t my cup of tea, but it’s a familiar trope that many readers will appreciate.
OVERALL: 4.5/5 (rounded to 5). I recommend this to fans of sci-fi progression fantasy. It’s a direct, light read that delivers on its promises: engaging battles, a growing power system, and a steady sense of reward as the story progresses. It's definitely a satisfying read for those who enjoy this genre. - TracyhillRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really like your story that’s one of the best ones I’ve seen and I’m quite some time. Are you gonna let him learn some old Martial arts and re-discover some old technology too for him to learn and learn how to make his own Z crystal a custom one for the reds. Or he’s gonna make his own crystal custom one like he made his own Ranger thing Crystal And are you gonna learn some arts where he can use his crystal energy on?or he’s gonna build his own mix are there ever gonna be making or there something he just come up with?and is he gonna have other weapons he can use aside for the pistol like a sword or anything else an AC ever going go back to the fight arenait would be fun to see him mess with old technology to aside for the technology they had out of now in thereOr he built his own transformer would be something funny to seeI would like to see the other races in a wreck with him as well the sea how he deals with everything else in he feels about it and I wanna how they gonna feel about the traitors and the Rangers
- demonshadow639Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5This is an amazing story!!! I originally clicked it because I grew up with the power rangers, they got me through a lot lol. But I expected to just have something while a waited a few other stories… yep that was a mistake I was unable to put the book down. The MC, while he does have his moments of “idiotic MC”, is quick on his feet and a pretty realistic guy. In this case a lot of the “wtf are you doing” moments are pretty covered by him not having a lot of the same basic knowledge as everyone else. An amazing story that is definitely worth the time. Check it out.
- dylandipzRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0This is a rather typical shonen story in a more mature Power Rangers setting. I’ve always been a fan of Power Rangers and Kamen Rider so I was looking forward to this story.
It follows a common shonen story progression with a decent amount of cliches but I don’t think that necessarily detracts from the story.
Some things I disliked was that pretty much every chapter ended on some form of cliffhanger or ended with a “…”
The more annoying reading thing for me is that we are mainly seeing the story through Oliver’s eyes and perspective but occasionally the next paragraph or two will swap perspectives to another character without much warning. It felt jarring for me at times and I feel messed with the flow a little bit.
I would recommend this story to anyone who’s a fan of Power Rangers, Kamen Rider or even just typical shonen. I think you can determine whether or not you’ll enjoy the story by Ch. 10. - Wildly_LaughingRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Really liked it, but I'll acknowledge that there's weak points. I'll list both good and bad. Current as of chapter 192.
Good:
- Story premise is interesting with lots of potential for expanding as well. The idea of training to be a power ranger to get revenge on aliens which destroyed everything you knew is definitely going to resonate with a lot of people.
- Plot is consistent
- Grammar is good
- I like the style of writing. It's formatted to be in book style for dialogue as opposed to film or theatre script style.
Ex:
Book Style:
"Ron, it's me. Harry Potter. Your best friend!"
Film/Theatre Script style:
Harry: Ron, it's me. Harry Potter. Your best friend!
Bad:
- Dialogue is not consistent with the age of the main character or his friends. The MC and his trio of friends are around 15 years old yet they talk like full-grown adults in their mid-20's to 30's. The MC gains several mentor figures along the way, one of which is Nico.
Nico is a male veteran and decades older than the MC and his friends. However, the way the MC and all of his friends talk sound like this guy who's at least in his 30's or older. 1 singular character talking like an older person can be excused as it can be due to personality or upbringing, however when all of the teens in the story talk like that, it's jarring and becomes clear it's not done on purpose.
- Perhaps due to the fact that this is a serialized novel, the author changes his plans for the characters as he writes and develops the story. Completely ok, except that there's then inconsistencies with the characters' personalities and plotlines that end up never being fulfilled.
Ex: When at the academy, "Astrid", is shown to be badass with a two-handed axe. She also gives the MC a way to contact her, in an embarrassed manner, which leads one to expect that she likes the MC. However, this plotline never goes anywhere and the MC never even mentions that he got her contact info. Astrid is sidelined for much of the novel, and when seen later - N_CabalRoyal Road★★★ 3.0It started off good and there are some good parts in the story but my main problem with the story is that the MC just doesn't use his system? He wants to be stronger but so far he is not even using the advantages he's been dealt but just going along with things.
And the writing seems a bit disjointed. That said, the premise is good and it keeps hinting at some pretty good lore. The action is nice and the characters are all right.
All in all if you are in the mood to read a litRPG it's all right, but it has the potential to be really good. - IacereRoyal Road★★★ 3.0The setting has a lot of potential. Humans vs Interstellar Orks with litrpg systems and super powers and power rangers and Z crystals. Unfortunately it’s just not that interesting. There’s a lot going on, too much in fact, but it’s not presented well and most of the characters and their interactions are bland. The best chapters of the first 70 or so are where the main character is on leave and trains with a mentor for a week. That guy, Nico, is the best presented/written character but the rest are really uninspired, particularly the female characters.
- BookmanRoyal Road★★★ 3.0dont give 5 stars easy. The avarage story on RR gets 2,5 stars.
This story is certainly abouve avarage but is held back by the execution. There are a lot of parts where we are told what hapens instat of shown. This can be done to accelerate the pacing or skip time. That is the case here.Sadly its overused. Then there are inconsistence with the story, the characters and the plot points.Certain plot points get addet only to be forgotten.
like the mc fighting orks befor joining the academy but thats not taken into the equation. The entire nameless plot is very forced.People dont just forget their last names.Could have used displaced or immigrants. But this far in the future it made no sense that there even is still discrimination against them.
Another problem is the MC being unfroozen only to be discadet into the slums. Why?It makes no sense. It would be more costly to unfreeze someone then to kill them off right away.On the surface level this is good. But looking deeper into it there are flaws.Still its abouve avarage. If only slightly. - RoseVanHellsingRoyal Road★★ 1.5I don’t want to be mean but i have to be honest. The story has a great premise, an awesome possible storyline and world building in the future. That however does not excuse the random POV jumps mid chapter, the lack of actual explanation and said world building. I mean one of the mc’s friends had to be tied up and gagged to be taken to the academy and now he is just fine? Where is the character growth?
The MC is…not good, i don’t really know how to say it, he secretly undergoes an evolution? Why? Why not ask an instructor especially if he just had a class explaining evolutions. Why wasn’t his experience with the orks from before the academy taken into account? He fought an ork and lived while being a civie. He was wounded and still felt pain during every test. Yet not a single instructor even hints at it. It’s like a random plot point that fell through. And again, random POV jumps mid chapter are not insightful or clever. They are confusing and forced. Suddenly going from the MC to some random opponent’s thoughts without warning is jarring. Please rewrite.
