Description
Laying listlessly on his couch, Daire recalled his favorite book.
"He killed them all."
That cheeky author...
The last book in the series rested on his lap. Completed. The characters never to rise again.
"It can't be over."
Closing his eyes, he whispered a prayer. A wish to set things right.

- KageTokageRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The beginning starts out very confusing, especially if you haven't read the synopsis.
At the start, there is no explaination on why Daire chose to enter into the novel or anything. He is going in there to save abandoned characters and he is going to do so with conviction!
While cool, this led me to almost drop it on multiple occasions. I'm glad I didn't.
Daire is a really nice guy. A really nice guy who's in over his head... and he knows it. His struggle to improve, interactions with Violet, and living in the wild are all really enjoyable.
But what really took the cake for me is his trauma. The guy has been used and abused for his kindness... and it hurts. It feels real. Which is why this deserves 5 Stars. - William OngRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Daire, I feel, is a character that is aware of the stations of canon, of the story he jumped into. He's read the story, he's aware of the setting, he's aware of some of the tropes that run the story. He wants to save the people he's read about.
He willingly sold his soul to the practical equivalent to a devil, simply travel to this world; to have the opportunity to save these 'characters' lives.
Now? He's in another world, with different fundamental laws and cultures. He's dealing with a 'fictional' reality that he relates to on a personal level. It's slow going, as Daire tries to adapt to a different culture he's only ever read about. He does his best to prepare for any eventuality to complete the challenge he set for himself.
And the best part? He makes mistakes. He understands that he would make them, he plans his best to avoid making them, and he still makes unexpected mistakes. They have consequence that he has to face and he is not always prepared for everything.
Daire is unmistakably human in all the ways it matters. He wants to be a good person, and recognise that he is selfish for wanting to personally do the saving. He so desperately wants to be better than a selfish human, yet fail to recognise that it is not all he can be, or that it isn't wrong to have significant flaws
And all that is just Daire.
This story is so driven by character development, yet the world-building feels like it serves as both a mirroring and contrasting influence in the lives of both Daire and Violet.
The story takes the premise of a 'fix-it' fic and spins it around just so. Daire's not perfect, he knows he's not. But damn if he wasn't going to do his best to complete his goals, no matter the ripple-effects he'll have to overcome.
