I Am Going To Die (In This Game-Like Dimension)

Description

When mysterious portals start opening up around the world at large events, swallowing everybody, you’d think that would warrant some kind of danger pay when you have to sell hotdogs at a Comic-Con, right? ‘No, of course not; what are the odds of that happening here, out of all the big events in the world?’

Well, Emma was always pretty good at beating the odds when it came to shitty luck.

Now she’s stuck in a strange dimension, where the normal rules don’t seem to apply, together with a costumed crowd who seem strangely happy about this whole thing.

At least, until the first people start dying.

Update:The series is finished!

Unfortunately, that means all six books have migrated to KU, so except for some sample chapters of the first book, they can unfortunately no longer be found on RoyalRoad.

This is one of the most unique takes on portal fantasy or isekai I have found to date with a good bit of LitRPG as well. Unlike most LitRPGs the main character doesn't progress easily or rapidly through gaining experience and instead progresses levels and stats through actual physical achievements or mile stones which is a nice reflection of the fact that you can train in reality as well to improve though the book is much faster than reality. It's nice to see a litrpg author tackle the physics of a different universe and the laws of said universe as well for once this usually isn't done in this genre and is more typical of classical science fiction, it's a nice touch. I can't wait until there is enough for a full book to be published and more than just a couple of hours of reading. I highly recommend it and look forward to the authors future work.

The main character is really easy to relate to, the setting is clear to picture, the rules of your world are consistent, I'd love to see this as a full length novel.

The game system in this world is very different than all the rest you encounter on rr, but you can tell its well though out.
In a very much connected subject, the world building is excellent. We haven't yet seen much of the world, but what we have seen is great  and makes sense in accordance with the premise of the world.
It can be abit hard to keep up with the veird perspectives of the world, but that is good as it allows us to see the world from the confusing perspective that it is, inworld
Characters are great. They make mistakes that are believable. They have assumptions. They exell in some things and are weak at others.
We haven't seen any true romance yet  but it might have been hinted at.. .
Well worth a read, if only to experience the difference from the standard systems

I like it. I like the focus on the main character, the crudeness of the story, the mad grind drive of Emma. Just plain hard work. Everything is explained in concise manner, the tension is almost always kept, and every new page gives a better perspective on the psychology of our girl. The struggle is i real and is definitely felt. Keep this momentum. Good job.

story is quite decent and would normally get a full 4-5 stars from me (im not super picky), but as far as chapter 36 all the image links are broken. All the things that should be showing what skills the main user gained or stats improved and are more important than I realized are missing.
Edit: after reviewing I found that the images are blocked by my internet security, so kudos for attempting to make a alternative to the 'boring' blue boxes that royal road seems to have as default for that type of thing, but since they come from an 'untrusted source' it means that some people will not be able to view them in line in the page
Second Edit: at chapter 60 I hit the section where there is alt text for the images. That actualy fixes all the issues I have. Nice story, keep up the awesome work!

I liked the premise (though early chapters are very dark, but with that title what would you expect?). I *really* liked the exploration of differing physics. I unfortunately DIDN'T like the characters, or their interactions with each other.
Maybe it would get better? I have no idea. The chapters are gone.
All my interactions with the author have been great though. They seem like a stand-up person, and I wish I had liked this story enough to keep reading it when it was available. I don't know what I'm missing.

The story is good but its painfully slow. You can skim 4+ chapters especially during the 2nd trial and you wont miss a damn thing about the story.

I am only going to rate the first three chapters because those are the ones I read before the jump in them.
all I will say about that is READ THE SYNOPSIS TILL THE END
I was starting to get invested but I didn't read the synopsis so after ch3 I got a Massive jump and got confused till I double checked.
if you want a sample story go right ahead

I ended up dropping this story when the dumb romance takes over the plot a hundred something chapters in.  I just can't take it anymore.
otherwise the first book (I read the kindle version) is basic but fine.  It's your standard isekai, snarky AI, deathworld plot.  It is absolutely filled with pop references for better or for worse
