Description

(The cover is by my grandma-in-law, edited by my wife!)

The country of Vlaydeer Aurea considers itself the center of the world, and perhaps it is. In the center of their capital, sprouting from the earth like a thick rope is a giant metal spire. No one can see the top, nor has it been climbed, many think it goes on indefinitely. Traveling toward the spire is heading North, and the four southernly directions are called, East, West, Kausuth and Anisuth.

In each direction is an unsurpassable barrier believed to be divinely placed: the storm-wrought Kausuth Seas, the fiery Anisuth Desert, and the rocky mountains of the East and West that seem to stretch on to infinity. But outside of the proud country of Vlaydeer, many grow tired of the lordship held over their people, and disbelieve the religious stories they are told. They seek to test these boundaries, and to test the goodness of the God that set them.

One such man is Monta Alacosta, the nephew of a powerful Vlaydmir duchess. He believes only in what he can see, and that there is a logical explanation for everything. But will he continue to hold on to his logic and reason when unexplainable things happen before his very eyes?

...

This story is a slow, world-building exploration of what faith is, and what it means to put your faith in something. It draws very loosely from my personal experience with faith, and in some way follows my faith journey, but does not intend to pressure or convince anyone one way or another.

We will be exploring the whole of the world over its entire timeline, and the way things are woven together past present and future. It may be dark or creepy, but I want there to be a quiet sense of hope throughout.

I am enjoying this story so far. I was a little overwhelmed in the beginning due to multiple perspectives, world building, and many characters being introduced.  However,  once the main story line emerged it was easier to follow.  The dialogue is well put together and thought out.
There are a lot of academic and theological conversations that delve into faith, how to approach belief in God, and truth. The story seems to be focusing on how characters develop intellectually, and how their ideologies clash.
The story seems to have some mystical aspects and many questions about what is occurring in the world.  There is also a perspective of a character called Blaise that does not seem to fit the story.  I hope his arc ties in well with the main arc, and how his futuristic world connects to the other Renaissance Era story.
Overall,  I am interested to see where this story goes and hope others enjoy it as well.
