    Middle third of a trilogy is often the slow part.  Too often a story gets bogged down in details or has nothing but setup for the third part.  We've all read those stories.
    Just from the start this story is keeping itself out of those obvious pitfalls, or perhaps black holes? Still capable of giving us tastes of the lore and the rest of the worlds while asking the right questions.
    Hard Scifi is about the questions you ask, not about the answers, you leave those to the reader.  I've been enjoying being that reader.
