- StultusRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5I'll be honest, I don't quite know how to describe this.
Upon finishing this book, I felt confused. It felt like things had been cut short somewhat. That new things were added out of nowhere, that the ending was a little bit rushed.
I'm not sure, perhaps I simply missed the clues and foreshadowing.
Despite that, I think that this is worth the read. Quite short, but not too short, never once did I think to stop reading despite my confusion. The characters did not bother me with their personalities, the sequence of events did not bore me or annoy me.
I'm not sure what to say to be honest, but you should read this, for the characters and the setting if not the actual plot.
Zantheus is a somewhat sheltered knight who's duty is not to a lord or to the service of the people, but instead dedicated to seeking enlightenment at the top of a mountain.
Anthē is a somewhat moody ex-slave woman, who wants to find happiness. Her past does not chase her throughout the book thankfully, avoiding a played out and worn plot line in my opinion. Her past is resolved and put to rest within a few chapters of meeting her, which I like.
Tromo is an mute orphan. He also wants to find happiness. I like him.
Leukos is an enigma wrapped in a riddle, tangled with a puzzle bundled into another enigma. Most of my confusion stems from his existence in the plot. I'm still not entirely sure what his whole deal was. He is a driving force in the book, but I think, also one of it's weakest points due to the sheer amount of confusion he engendered.
