The family that quests together, stays together.

Blaine gave up his old glory days of playing MMORPGs with his buddies for the wonderful job of being a solo dad. But, some days, he would rather slay some goblins, destroy a boss, and feast in a tavern - without having to do the dishes later.

What better way to get back into gaming than with family? A brand-new game comes out on the market, and it’s perfect to play with the kids: Seconds-Over. A VR video game unlike any other, where every moment matters. Even just sitting and breathing can level up stats in the game! But like reality, you can’t sit and rest while your kids are running around and stirring up trouble with every monster's nest.

When his six-year-old collects a cute, little flower crown, it triggers a boss that sends Blaine and his family on a timed quest to unlock a legendary class. If Blaine can get it, he can relive the excitement of his old streaming and PVP tournament days. Back to when people recognized him and wanted to watch his fighting skills. But to earn this class, he and the kids, with their unique problem solving, will have to uncover the truth of the guardian who once held the class.

With the clock ticking, other guilds fighting them to have this epic prize, and real-life parenting to do - Blaine will have to rely on his family and friends to achieve his goals. Not just building a community, but building up his kids and using the world of the game to prepare them for the harshest world of all - reality.

For Fans of Apocalypse Parenting, Warbreaker’s Rise, and Watcher’s Test.

The story is well written and has believable characters. There is a lot of suppressed issues between the characters that i hope they can work through. The MC seems to want to work on them but is easily distracted. At this point in the story he reminds me more of a someone who is trying to have a relationship with his family but is being hampered by old dreams and goals that are ruining it. Its a good novel but i picked it for a more light hearted read and so far it hasnt been. Im putting the novel down but i hope others give it a chance, just not what i was looking for.

I first thought I was going to get a wholesome family comedy LitRPG story, oh boy was I wrong, it is so much more. The story is strong, and after just 17 chapters I really just want them to be okay. It is quite heavy and sad at times.
The story starts intense. There are stakes right away (lack thereof is usually a complaint with VR stories), and the world inside and outside of VR is interesting.
The stakes inside and out are nicely intertwined, which makes the story as a whole more engaging.
The characters is really where this story shines.
Boulder: our main character. A very flawed man, who is obviously obsessed with, or maybe even addicted to gaming/this game. He keeps trying to justify his actions by saying he's doing this to bring his family closer together, when in reality he is pushing them away and is completely disregarding their feelings, only thinking about himself.
When he started calling Tristan Triangle in real life I thought to myself oh no is he really this far gone already? I hope he will realize what he is doing and manages to fix himself and his troubled family (and the sink).
Naiad: while still a kid she seems to be more grown up than the dad. She definitely is more in tune with her little brother and is thankfully looking out for him, protecting him from the dad's obsession. A very likable character.
Triangle: I hope we will get to see more of this little guy. His catchphrase (catch-emote?) had me laughing every time. His behavior reminds me a lot of my own kid, and it was funny to see him act in ways that a lot of parents can probably relate to.
Sad to see how his dad keeps trying to push him to do things he does not want to do even though he is traumatized.
The grammar is good. Sure, there are typos here and there, but the writing is smooth enough and the typos are not bad or frequent enough to detract from the story.
The author definitely has their own voice, and the story is pleasant and quick to read.

You might think you are patient. This book will challenge you.
The story has a very accurate depiction of an unavailable parent (the MC) that tries to be available but fails badly. It's so accurate that my soul is still recovering from the damage done by chapters 6 and up.
There's a lot of trying and a lot more blundering. Lots and lots of blundering. One step forward and two steps back is the name of the game with this MC.
Schadenfreude at the MC? I crushed that before it can even germinate. The kids suffer for his many flaws.
THIS is an actual internal conflict.
The MC's inner demons are winning, his confused heart is the underdog, and his relationship with his family is on the line.
p.s. My favourite character is the little three sided polygon, he's the true hero of this story, and the reliable range dps is a very close second. The story is worth it just so I can cheer for these two.
