Description

Flung into a world far different than his own, a certain blue-headed genius will learn how to navigate the hostile landscape that is Earth Bet. Together with his faithful companion Minion, they'll tackle any who dare stand in their way.

Watch him struggle, watch him blunder, watch him grow.

Watch him become what he never believed possible, a hero. Albeit, a hero with an orbital death laser.

Pre-Movie Megamind dropped into slightly pre-canon Worm. This is not a stomp or spite fic. Baseline knowledge of Worm assumed.

Really liking it so far. Bringing comedy into the grimdark world or Worm was a good choice. The only other I've seen do this was with an OC that became its own six book series, and the author went on to make more afterward. This one gives off similar vibe and I hope it continues at least until the Endbringer battle is over. I appreciate the lack of trying to integrate the main characters into the story in more than cameos and giving background characters redemption arcs.

I like to read a lot of weird fanfics, but even I would not have thought of combining the lovable idiocy of Megamind and Minion with Worms general chaos and depression
And yet, it works. Not only does it work, it works well.
The author writes the characters way better than I was expecting, if you told me that this was the layout for a new Megamind movie, I’d believe you. I can literally HEAR every line I read, as they feel like EXACTLY what you would expect from these characters. And Megaminds internal monologues are just the icing on the cake, it captures the process this man trying to navigate this world, where fights are taken much more seriously, and heroes don’t act like the hero he knew, so well.
As he tries to follow his own rules of engagement, whilst also trying to show Brockton the greatest villain they’ll ever see (and failing, lol)
Honestly, the characterisation is just great, I genuinely don’t know how to explain it in a review without quoting several pages worth and spoiling half the plot.
Overall, it’s a great read, and above and beyond what I would expect from this concept.
    10/10 I’m ravenous

Worth reading. Plots good. Characters even better. Those of you who get turned off by fanfic would probably still like this and even though it says source knowledge assumed; you could read this without that. Author does a good job explaining things.
If there's to be a flaw, it's that the author doesn't post fast enough. Jk I'm just saying this to pad for words. It's actual greatest crime? Setting the bar so high, no one else can reach it.

Usually when I give a solid five stars, I'm just offsetting 1 star reviews and my actual rating is 4 stars.  In this case, I really am giving 5 stars.
Megamind speaks, thinks, and acts like megamind. When I read, I can hear his movie voice.  A similar level of characterization and attention to detail applies to all the characters.
My only criticism is that there aren't enough chapters, and that at least one time the environments were more complicated than what the choreography could describe.  This is a miniscule nitpick.
There are occasional grammar errors, but nothing that a good editing pass couldn't fix. I was never confused about what the author meant to write.
There aren't many stories (or movies, for that matter) worth experiencing more than once, but this fanfiction (and the megamind movie) both qualify.
It's always a treat when a fanfiction not only stands on its own merits, but also elevates all source material.
The story isn't finished yet, but this author is very reliable, and has maintained the same high quality even if it means releasing chapters slower.
Edit: currently on hiatus, presumably while auth focuses on his main story and / or gets a life, but the existing arcs and chapters are already worth reading on their own merit.
Story beats cycle between comedy, drama, underdog, power fantasy, slice of life, philosophy, and social commentary, without going overboard on any given beat.  There's a little bit of everything, and everything is done well.
This story is descriptive, not proscriptive.  The caste is genuine but explicitly flawed, so none of their opinions could be mistaken for those of the author - who has wisely and skillfully let the characters loose without revealing their own personal opinions.  (A difficult feat in ANY fanfiction, much less the divisive dystopia of Worm).
This is a story that can be appreciated by just about anyone, and everyone will interpret things differently.

it feels like Megamind was dropped into a different world. I didn't get deep into Worm, so I'm not sure about how close that feels, but if your just here for Megamind being Megamind, it delivers.
It does feel a little strange that despite his huge brain he isn't very good at noticing the darker aspects until his nose is rubbed in it, but based on the story and that it does happen like that, it is very obviously the authors choice and not just some oversight, and it works.
I'm waiting for him to get fed up, stop playing around and just start pwning everyone. I'm just not sure if that's really in the cards for his nature, just something that I expect would be enjoyable if it happens.

Though the author went out of their way to make clear that it wasn't meant to be a stomp or spite fic, I still expected something of the sort, but to my great surprise and satisfaction, somehow (I imagine through witchcraft) the novel has kept a balance between two silly characters from what's basically a cartoon, and a dark gritty world in which everything is awful, without, so far, ruining either.  If you only read this part of the review, yes, give it a go; if you like Worm, give it a go; if you like Mega Mind give it a go, and even give it a go only because it's fun to see a campy hammy character rated for all ages in a grim dark world played well.
There are plenty of worm fics, plenty of more comedic ones, but those that are actually good have a much reduced number. I will count this among that list, because it doesn't throw away worm as a concept, rather Megamind is completely out of place at times, bringing just a touch of heart to some characters that needed it and making good of its premise (because Worm is not a novel you read to have happy fuzzy feelings usually, to say the least).
The little quips of Mega Mind and Minion are on point too; I am not a huge MM fan, or anything close, but I get a chuckle or a smile from time to time, again without ruining the whole setting and making fun of it in a mean spirited way. One more thing that makes this great for me, is that it doesn't go the other way either. You will see Mega Mind surprised, being used to living in an Utopian world, seeing hard crime and such for the first time, but the novel has yet to go out of its way to become pointlessly grim and ruin the premise. It's clear that at no point are we going into a chapter long edgy exposition on pain. I also believe the characters from worm were given, so far, the respect they deserved, no character assassination that I had seen.
Finally, to satisfy an advanced review:
Grammar:  Great. Maybe a few typos? If so it's minimal. This is more polished that some stuf

The author of this story understands exactly who Megamind is. He is not dangerous, he is not evil, he is just a silly little guy. While not in the same way, Megamind is going to grow and mature into the hero he was always meant to be! And he is going to show the locals what a true bad guy looks like!

The first chapter is rough, but the fiction quickly hits its stride. The author seems to have some initial difficulty nailing the signature blend of quips and hubris our blue boy is known for, but after his official debut the dialogue is on point. Minion, however, hits his stride much sooner, and does much to cover that transitional period from an initial 3-star fic in quality to the current 4+.
Subjective bonus half star each for the idea, and for the absolute banger most recently released chapter, but the potentially unreliable update schedule knocks it down to 4.5. If the author cleans up the first chapter, posts a schedule, or sets up some other way of keeping in touch with the fans, I’ll bump my review up a half star.
