Description
The world ended.
Or at least, it was starting to. Fortunately, it gave a choice to a select many.
Calvin, sitting in the same hospital bed he had been in since more than a decade ago, picked the same choice as most all others that were presented the question. A new world, a new life, one without the perpetual pain and loneliness of his previous one.
Unfortunately for him, his new start was no less miserable as his previous one. Although, at least in this one he has superpowers.
Release schedule: Twice a week, usually Wednesday and Saturday.

- vennoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Okay straight up: there’s definitely some issues early on in this story. That first chapter didn’t make all that much sense, and ultimately added sweet FA to the story.
I almost dropped it a couple of chapters in, but kept going and I’m so glad I did. It’s been a really enjoyable read, and I’d recommend checking it out if the synopsis is interesting to you at all. - biggiraffe60Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is an engaging and entertaining super hero story. The grammar is amazing and the characters feel real. The diverse cast of character, locations, and worldbuilding makes the story itself feel real. All of this makes the story leave readers wanting more. I recommend this story to any readers who like superhero stories.
- mplaysbgRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great story with unique premise and interesting powers. I will recomend it to anyone that loves super hero stories, espesially if like me they have spend time to manually search on the site.
Fair warning thou, some of the early chapters are rought. They were writen durring Writathon and in some place it shows that, or maybe that's just me? Point being, if you do encouter a few wierd things in the early chapters it's most likely due to that. Give the story a try - rman916Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Fantastic story, with a an unusual system that is both numbers light, and crunch heavy. Very specific and exacting, but limiting all the same. Plot is going well in the background, but I personally can not wait to find out what exactly his power evolution will look like, or what this store will have.
- spunionringRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story has been a great read. It is a system isekai into a modern superhero world and it handles both really well. It has fun exploring how to use powers in interesting ways. And the writing is very enjoyable, it keeps the focus tight on the scenes and dialogue which makes the story feel very character focused and the ensemble characters are all very vibrant.
- vantaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Let me start off by saying it's good.
Really good, I love it a lot.
But first, let me start out with the weakest link of the book, The grammar.
Overall, it's not massively bad. Nothing too distracting, but a single proof read of a chapter would help massively to catch some minor errors. Also, there's a few issues with formatting that I'm not sure if they're intended or not, but I think having to ask that means that there's a bit of a problem. I think it really says something though, if the weakest link is grammar.
Next, the Style.
I think that this is probably it's second weakest aspect when it comes to the book, but it's separated by a pretty huge gap compared to the grammar. Sometimes dialogue scenes drag on for too long and it gets grating, sometimes the plot gets a tad too slow, but overall, not many complaints. To clarify, it's still better than 90% of the stuff you'll get on Royal Road anyways, and it only takes a little bit away from the enjoyment you get, and you can skim the parts anyways.
Story.
So far, I'm loving what's being put down. I was curious to where the story was going after Calvin's first scuffle, but it managed to naturally weave in a direction while Calvin's just doin Calvin things. Powers are interesting, in how you can slowly evolve them and if Calvin's current ability growth and gains keeps up, I'll be happy. (I'm a sucker for weird, random powers.)
Now, saving the best for last, characters.
Hoh boy, who better to start off with then Calvin. First off, he's incredibly refreshing. He's a chill kind of idiot, and an incredibly entertaining one at that. So much greater than edgelords and 5000 iq masterminds. And another thing- he's actually funny. In a natural, non shove it in your face way. Amazing. He's literally the only reason I kept reading and one of the very, very few who's names I remember. Couldn't have asked for a better main character if I tried.
Next, the supporting characters. Good, just straight up quality ass shit. Dialogue and c - Iceman505Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0The start to this book reminds be of Drew Hayes and Super Powereds which are some of my favorite books and superhero content in general. Really like Hero Super so far! Im looking forward to seeing the world continue to be fleshed out and the characters grow into the story.
- MRE123Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is one of those easy five star reads. I came to it from another story (which I subsequently abandoned) and binged it in a night.
A sick teenager Isekaied from his world of origin, this story follows a kid waking up in a evil scientist's lair with "system" and potential super powers. But immediately we're shown how fun the character is by his reactions in the lair *before* he gets any serious powers. He happily sneaks around robbing his captors blind while relying on his best memories of survival television to decide his wardrobe. The mix of joy and horror of being alive but in a bad place is really played up by the author and made me fall in love with the character. Who among us hasn't indulged in gallows humor during bad times, and for a character who was chronically ill, it fits their personality to a tee and makes the entire zany superhero premise more compelling and fun. The combination of everyday powers and slight dystopian future reminds me of the best parts of Worm by Wildbow, though this story is far more lighthearted and avoids the savage violence/death of Worm's grimdark setting. That said, there are some hints the story will ramp up the violence/seriousness of its content as the plot progresses and I look forward to seeing what the author does with it.
I'm a fan of a bunch of superhero fiction (e.g. Worm, Super Powereds by Drew Hayes, or Dire:Born by Andrew Seiple), and this story stands well on its own among them. It's a more relaxed than either Worm or Dire:Born, but does share a bit of the slice of life feel of Super Powereds, though I confess I think I enjoyed this story more, even if there is a more well developed cast of characters in Hayes' story. I look forward to seeing where WitheredKelp takes Calvin and his growing crew next.
*One note/criticism for the author (if he should read this review) is the setting. Even though the protagonist is new to the world, the description of the world beyond the city feels a bit sparse, bot - VanThoughtsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Binge-read the whole thing, and I can say I genuinely enjoyed every bit. A fun read. I love the main character with his witty banter with supporting characters and their antics. Very comedic without feeling forced or cringe. An interesting character. The dialogue, and character dynamics are the strong points of this fic. Looking forward for more chapters.
(My first time giving a rating and a review because I think this fic deserves it. Very underrated.) - DingleBobAttunementRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Style(4/5):
The narrative style presents itself in dialogue-heavy, staccato sequences. The language is largely casual, which is appropriate given the light-hearted atmosphere and college-bro-esque humor. Personally, the prose hit all the right notes—it was direct, readable, and (for the most part) flowed quite well.
However, the lack of technical flourish or a distinct, memorable style obligates me to deduct a point from this section. All in all, the style shines in its bombastic, jovial pizzaz but falls a tad short in demonstrating literary prowess. I will, however, emphasize once more: I liked it.
Story(4.5/5):
Much like the author's style, the pacing can jump around at times, cushioned by smooth—though occasionally jarring—transitions.
The creativity that went into crafting, showcasing, and humorizing the superpowers and their usage was especially praiseworthy—kudos!
The lore could use some expanding upon, but it's made up for by the sheer excitement of what's shown.
I, for one, am extremely enthusiastic for what's to come; the author—a self-proclaimed beginner—has shown remarkable progress with each chapter.
Grammar(3.5/5):
It pains me to give a story I've so enjoyed a score such as this—even if in a sub-category. However, the dialogue tags and punctuation need a fair amount of work; hyphens are used in place of m-dashes{—} to indicate pauses, oftentimes with inconsistent spacing; words are occasionally misspelled, though not egregiously; introspection is simultaneously italicized and single-quoted...
Characters(5/5):
If the previous category was the weakest, then characters—bar none—are the strongest. Every interaction oozes charisma, emotional intelligence, and naturalness. The banter does not beggar but enriches. The comedy, belying its frequency, often provokes a laugh—never a cringe. The introspection elucidates the world bereft of evident exposition.
If a character-driven narrative is what you seek, look no further, for you have found it.
Seriously.
