UPDATES WEEKLY
The world of Hero: Generation diverges from our own in the 1970s on a night known as “The Aurora Event”. Beautiful and luminescent weather phenomena covered the planet, for ten short minutes every corner of the Earth was underneath a cascade of lights in the sky. It was days later before reports began to filter in, more than could be suppressed by Governments and Nations. The Alphas had arrived. A small percent of the global population began to exhibit otherworldly and super natural abilities, changing the course of humanity.
The Vietnam Occupation ended over night, as each ruling nation took action to respond. In the coming years Alphas would begin to change the globe. Russia eventually became an Alpha nation ruled by a mysterious figure only known as Father Winter. America, Europe, and Australia become even larger superpowers as their Alpha populations exploded, in time a United Nations force known as The Guardians was established to police and document the Alpha emergence.
The worlds foremost expert in Alpha studies, Dr. Pavel Laghari invented a system known as the Laghari Scale, that scored Alphas on a scale of 1 to 10 across a wide array of parameters ranging from relative physical abilities to other parameters. Now, in most civilized countries Alphas are required to be assessed the moment their powers manifest, or be in strict violation of local and international laws.
In this Age of Heroes , The Guardians have designed a new Initiative to recruit younger Alphas and set them on a path to greatness. Every year teenage Alpha’s from all over the globe flock to secure locations to take part in the Guardians crucible. Many will enter, but few will earn the right to call themselves a Guardian.

- FXDgRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's released as a first draft and it really shows. It's sometimes wanting for details and if you require a good technical execution, you may want to read a few chapters behind but it gets cleaner with each revision.
Once you get past the rough edges, it's a fun superhero story. It's pretty engaging overall with a handful of chapters out. Some solid action sequences and hints at the bigger dramas our heroes-in-training will face. Nothing flies at you too fast as you discover the context of the timeline it takes place in, and the mythos is an interesting spin. I hope we get some more background on it.
The characters are the real gems. They're all quirky and diverse, and despite being an ensemble cast with a steadily growing list of friends and foils, everyone seems to have a pretty distinct and strong personality. There are a lot of small moments that give them extra vibrance and heart, and it should be enjoyable watching them develop.
If the writing tightens up to really showcase the background and submerse the reader in the atmosphere, I think it will shape up to be an excellent ride. - Natalia PaigeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0One of my favorites concept wise. Hope to see this continued and in print soon.
- All hail The Machine GodRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I’ll give a more detailed rewiew once a few more chapters come around.
All around good potential so far. - Zachary DugasRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0So I am going to go over this in detail according to the categories of the advanced rating system.
Overall: 4 out of 5 stars.
It's hard to judge based on only two chapters so I won't give this a five I need to see more to do that, however I do like the idea and the writing so far so I am goo g to give the benefit of the doubt.
Style: 4.5 out of 5
The style is very much like a YA novel and that is not a bad thing considering one of my favorite series of books is YA, the story focuses around a group of super powered teens and it would be weird if it didn't feel like the style of writing fit that.
Story: 4 out of 5
As I said above there is not enough to go on atm but I like the idea so yeah.
Grammar 3.5 out of 5
So this might sound bad but honestly I was bugged to tears by the dialogue grammar. Every single quote needs a piece of pinctuation you seem to skip the ones that are not questions or exclamations. It is an easy fix you just have to add a comma for example:
”I hate grammar, ” Ben said.
”Trust me, everyone hates grammar, ” Michelle responded back twirling her long black hair around her pencil.
So just add those commas and I will be a happy man. Lol
Character: 4 out of 5
Only two chapters in so it's hard to judge yet, but we will see.
Over all I like the idea just fix the dialogue grammar and keep writing ill be watching and reading and will update this when there is more to read. - Tana NariRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Superhero story, world diverges in recent history, nothing special to talk about here.
It opens into what appears to be an attempt at an in media res moment, but fails to understand that the point of such stories is to start a fast paced adrenaline rush, with immediately recognizable, important stakes.
Instead, we get an extended job interview. A job interview using superpowers to fight robots and win a race, granted, but a job interview nontheless. There are no stakes established. Readers don't know if or how important this setup is, save for some minor comments between the characters between long-winded fight scenes with no stakes.
Or if there are, then the writer failed to illuminate them for the reader.
Which puts me in a weird position where I do care what happens to these people, but I know nothing important will happen in the near future, and thus I don't care what happens in the story.
With exception to that, the story is quite good. The characters are interesting enough, their personalities slide into their positions in the five-man-band without too much reliance on tropes, as well as being clear and crisp to read. All positive experiences that make the reading a pleasant, relaxed affair.
In a story that starts with in media res action scenes.
If the story had started under a different set of circumstances, either with a real threat, or skipped the attempt to be dramatic and started in a more relaxed environment, it would have been far more effective, perhaps one of the better modern superhero stories, but I can't grade on "if".
Come for quality writing and likeable character, but beware that the plot itself is a slog.
