The story follows a hard-bitten detective from Earth with the chase reflex of a terrier spotting a rat.  It feels like a crime procedural in the first chapter, which ultimately leads to an isekai.  It's well played and a lot of fun.  Some pithy prose kept making me smile as I read the story, the MC's slightly sardonic personality keeps shining through and raising the tone.
Style is good, it flows well.  There's a time skip after his isekai, so we can thankfully skip the toilet training and weaning phase, and it picks up with the MC as a young child, who is also old beyond his years.  It's well-written; the MC isn't the kid he seems, but he plays it as though he is.
Story is solid.  World building is done well, no info dumps, and characters are introduced in a way that makes them feel realistic.   There are some mysteries hinted at early on that pulled me in and made me want to keep hitting next chapter.
Grammar is fine.  Above the usual standard for RR.  Minor niggles but nothing that breaks your immersion.  Expect a smooth read.
The characters are great.  Canaan is fun, a young kid learning magic, being trained by his legendary old man, and struggling to piece together the nature of his new reality.  Side characters are all well-rounded and convincing.
If you are a fan of TBATE, I think you'll really enjoy this story, and I hope the author keeps writing more!
