Description
-Book One Synposis-
Vorlanys. A realm created by the angels for mortals.
For millennia, many angels have lived amongst the mortals, aiding the mortals in their advancement. The High Angel Forynda has only tolerated this, however. She is concerned that ultimately the flaws of both angels and mortals would combine to create a cataclysm that would shatter both Vorlanys and the angels' home realm of Ceuna.
Tragedies, unforeseen by any mortal or angel, set in motion that long-feared calamity and hurtle both worlds toward an irrevocable conflagration. Neither will ever be the same. Follow the lives of multiple characters, from lowly inhabitants of minor villages to the angels of Ceuna themselves, as they experience this approaching doom.

-Book Two Synopsis-
Ceuna has divided. Angels and mortals have taken their sides in a war for the fate of Vorlanys. Forynda, the High Angel and ruler of Ceuna, intends to end the entire struggle in a swift and decisive stroke with her awesome power. Meanwhile, the dissident angels, led by Omonrel, and their mortal allies cling to a thin hope that fate will break in their favor.
All hopes for a quick end to the conflict will soon be dashed, however, to the detriment of all sides. The war for Vorlanys will take on a frightening new turn while mortals and angels alike discover previously unknown truths about their reality.

Some additional comments for readers: This is a project with a very ambitious arc encompassing a huge number of characters over a long period of time. If you are looking for a tight focus on just a handful of characters, that's not this story. It is meant to provide a broad series of perspectives on an absolutely calamitous world-shaping war.

- AdamJayRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I couldn't help but be reminded of the Diablo series when I read this book. An epic clash between cosmic forces with humans struggling in the middle. This reminder helped set the tone for a dense, serious story with massive implications for the future of Vorlanys.
Style - As others have noted, a bit of a slow start and some dense prose. That said, it helped establish a gothic backdrop for the action which felt thematically right. I appreciated the complex language that others have disliked. I thought it similar to Lovecraft or other difficult authors of that ilk.
Story - Angels, murder, the future of the world, what else is there to a story? I thought the opening really set the tone for the complex politics that would follow. A bit reminiscent of ASOIAF, but without the trappings of medieval England. An original idea that needs further exploration!
Grammar - I don't tend to notice or get tripped up by anything except the worst grammatical offenses. I didn't notice anything that was distracting. As someone pointed out, the author doesn't use "said" very often which can be difficult until you're used to the style.
Character - Distinct POV with distinct mannerisms, idioms, and flavor. It's obvious who you're viewing the world as without requiring any tags. - B. A. Baker (Thedude3445)Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Heaven Falls is all about worldbuilding. The world of this story is explored in-depth with a huge cast, many settings, and a lot of intrigue. That's the main draw here-- if you're a reader who likes worldbuilding and immersing yourself in an author's creation, then you'll enjoy Heaven Falls.
For me, the early chapters were a bit much, though. There were so many characters being introduced, so much terminology, so many subplot set up, that I started to lose track of what was going on, and that carried on a little bit throughout the rest of the story. This is something I have mentioned in a number of other reviews on Royal Road, but introducing many POVs in quick succession can be a bit overwhelming, and I think in this case it hurt my ability to connect with the characters in a deeper way.
I doubt that will be a problem for most readers, though; if you're a reader who likes delving with a huge scope right off the bat, then you'll be just fine.
The writing style is fine, nothing special but better prose than average for web fictions. My one note here is that there is a lot of usage of synonyms for "said" in dialogue tags, to the point that "said" is a bit rare. Some readers are put off by that a lot, so I wanted to put that out ahead of time.
This story is fast updating--It's added so many new chapters since I started reading I couldn't even catch up in time for this review lol. With lots of updates and a big world to explore, there might be something here for you, dear reader. - Cocop (Cale Plamann)Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0The only downfall of this book is its epic scope. As some others have noted, there are a lot of characters and there is a lot going on. I can see why the author elected to give the novel the scope that it has- the content is an absolutely massive divine civil war, but at times the pace can be a little slow (addressed under style).
Long story short, well worth the read and one of the better novels on this website.
Style-
The novel has a slow start with a lot of POVs which can impede reading a bit. Additionally the author's writing style can be a bit stuffy. Those are basically my only complaints with the novel. Despite the speed of the novel, it doesn't feel like the pacing is bad. Instead the early pov heavy/slow chapters have a building sense of unease. For the first 10 chapters or so you don't even know what exactly is going wrong- you just know that something terrible is on the horizon. The author does a very good job building that unease to the point where I want to be clear that my one star off for style is one hundred percent personal taste regarding the novel's speed, not actually a technical critique of the end product (which is very good).
Grammar-
Very good, not much to notice or critique
Story Score-
The story is slow building but epic and engaging. I find myself excited to read the each chapter.
Character Score-
Every one of the POVs has a different feel to it. There are a lot of characters in this world, some wishy washy, someon insane, some withdrawn, some forceful. Each of them feels distinct and well developed.
Summary:
The entire novel is good, but Character/Story are what elevate it. Well worth a read so long as you can commit to reading the first 16 chapters.
#TeamForyndaDidNothingWrong - LaurybelleRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have only read a short part of the entire story so far, but I feel obliged to rate this gem. It's sad that a story this polished be it to your liking or not is rated so low. It does require you to use all your attention to enjoy it and sucks you into its world, which I believe is the hallmark of a good story, but might not go well with the usual RRL readerbase looking for blue screens and a light read. I will update this review to an advanced one as soon as I believe I can give it justice. If you enjoyed The Eagle's Flight you'll enjoy this.
- TMarkosRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0In the epic opening arc of this story the author has laid out the foundation of a drama that spans heaven and earth - two courts, one of angels and the other of men, intertwined in a pattern that not even those caught in it can discern. The machinations of both have a sense of weight and history to them, giving a sense that we are entering in the middle of a vast and complex machine that is ticking away toward mysterious ends.
I've wholeheartedly enjoyed the beginnings of what promises to be a vast cosmic struggle, and look forward to reading on in the future. - FernicusRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Disclosure: Reviewed as a part of a review swap.
Did I like it? Yeah, parts were pretty good, fight scenes were well done, it makes good use of descriptive language as well. if a little longwinded.
Did I keep reading it. Sadly no, the story is not the kind of story I find particularly interesting, it is too dense and hard to read for me. But others interested in stories such as Frank Herberts Dune may enjoy it.
Style: Stylistically the story just feels... over written. The author makes use of complicated words and often bogs down the flow of the writing with too many big words, this is an attempt to make it more descriptive but instead just makes reading it more of a chore than an enjoyment.
The story is complex, multiple families, politics, war, ect. It is a dense story, not a light entertaining read. so while I belive the above style issues make the story difficult to read, I can also see that the style is more of a serious work of fiction.
3.5/5
Grammar:
I noticed no grammar issues of note, possibly some forgotten comma's here and there if you look really hard.
5/5
Story:
The story is a good idea, its complex and detailed enough that I could see it persisting for a long time, I think it is a little dry. but it is well thought out.
4/5
Characters:
The story gets one think very right, and that is belivable, emotive and interesting characters. They feel alive, they are belivable, what more can you say.
