Description
Immortality. It is granted only to those who are ready to kill, dissect, and literally walk over the corpses of their enemies.
Cast away pity, discard compassion, and burn all forgiveness. Here, your kindness is a weakness.
So show this world that you can be more terrifying than anything it has known or seen before.

- ThousandLeavesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Kind of Warlock of The Magus World, but with eastern touch.
This is absolutely incomparable to most stories on this site, especially the ones craving attention. No bait, filler or wanna be cool ideas that lead nowhere. Very solid plot that is consistent. I am at the book 4 and the quality is no less than in the beginning, the author is clearly very experienced.
Recommend to all who want a more sinister MC who plans and schemes and for a change actually acts smart, we are not told he is, he does it instead. - SpicyJesusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I’ll be very clear. This story hits all the boxes for me. The setting is in a very grimdark world with morals and values contrary to that of Stas’ and his adaptation of morality yet retaining of humanity in this new world is masterfully done. The characters are plenty interesting with their own niches and attributes which keep your attention. The MC’s scheming nature and manipulation of events is plenty satisfying when it unfolds. Action scenes are well choreographed and imaginative as well. I love how the MC innovates (later half) and the mechanics of his discovery from a modern science perspective is something I find myself loving. He does care for his companions and does help others but is also selfish enough with human experimentation and assassination. And above all, his goal of immortality sits right with my preference of genres.
Kudos to the translator xbb-trnk for his work. Well done. - AdvisorVisorRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Pick up some top-shelf Russian works instead.
It's been a while since I've read this. Remaining impressions are all great. The absolute hard-mode reincarnation, no translator magic, and the earnestly remarkable social engineering used early on to survive and thrive. Probably one of the best "charisma build" stories on the site, and this isn't even the point of it. The implicit moralizing you're constantly being made to swallow is pleasantly absent. He's not a good guy, but he's not making a point out of slurping up suffering either. It's not about the author's interpretation of the right world - just the world he sees out of the window every day with a more fantastical perspective. A cultivator setting with an appropriate level of brutality. I still wonder about what went on in that lamia spirit's head. Honestly, it feels like average-or-higher fiction out of a better world where the new generation of writers didn't get the notion that turning their works into part-time political propaganda was anything but a sign of them being unable to truly put themselves into another setting (out of incompetence, or misguided zeal?). Very nice.
I was disappointed to learn the translator's other offerings aren't quite up to this standard. That's life, huh? The first dose is the best, and we're left to chase the dragon. - OfficerDataRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a hidden gem, how did i miss this before when looking for stuff to read....
The more you read and more you realise this is really good, maybe a few rough first chapters where you kinda doubt what this is about, but just get into it,it's freakin awesome...
Thanks for the translation mate - RustySam12Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Story follows an MC thrown out time and space to an unknown land that is similar to feudal era Japan with similar mythology. The plot has room to grow and further itself as the MC descends into politicking, court intrigue, action, magic and action adventure. The MC is likable and intelligent with understandable motives and qualities. The supporting cast are understandable as well and follow a logical reasoning as would be expected of their stations in the world. Over all its pretty cool.
- SilkyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall the story at the time of review is in a great place. The MC is engaging and the plot never becomes dull or repetitive. Due to its translation from Russian occasional words do not always make sense. This issue is abated by the fact that it is typically an issue of diction and not syntax. One example I encounter frequently is the use of “interlocutor”. I speak English natively and did not know the word or its meaning until I looked it up. There are other examples of this however they are much fewer only appearing once. If they are more consistent the author usually explains them in a note at the bottom of the chapter, which clears up any uncertainty. The cast of side characters is engaging, and at the time of review the plot has built up enough and emotional ties between characters have deepened enough that the stakes and subsequent pay offs of the story are well felt by the reader. Anticipation for the next chapter is always present. To me these are all signs of an excellent story and, in this case an excellent translation as the author has preserved the soul of the story. What makes it so compelling.
- LimusRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Character: The star of the show is, of course, the main character. Healer of Monsters is the story if you want an evil MC. He has a goal, and he works towards it. That bit in the summary about walking over the corpses of your enemies? It’s not an exaggeration, and Stanislav is the best evil MC I’ve read about. There are two distinct categories of side characters: the ones you need to know, and the other ones. The need-to-know cast is fleshed out extremely well alongside the main character, and even though the others don’t get as much of the spotlight, they never feel pushed aside for no reason. If there is a character that the MC interacts with, they’re going to be relevant to the story in some way.
Story: When you say it out loud, this story sounds ridiculous: “A Russian man is isekai’d into Edo period Japan, but with magic”. But this setting, works. The motivations of the characters, works. And the overall development of conflicts and scale, works. Fair warning, this story does develop a political side eventually, but it isn’t overwhelming and there are never irrelevant names being thrown around. My only gripe with the story of Healer of Monsters is the ending. The final chapter tries to wrap everything up nicely, but it just didn’t work for me.
Grammar: You could tell me that this was written by a native English speaker, and I’d believe you. Healer of Monsters has better English than so many other stories, especially on RR (no offense).
Style: This is the only aspect of this story that feels a little repetitive (Likely because of the translation) - some of the descriptors are reused a lot, but overall it is still a very clean style that works incredibly well with the theme and environment being established. - Book Eating MagicianRoyal Road★★★ 3.0This was a great novel with wonderful world building for the first few volumes, with my favorite thing being the MC. However, the last two volumes present one of the most drastic falls in quality that i have evern seen in any novel. As a reader, if feels like the author introduced an unplanned and poorly though plot line in order to artifically extend the duration of the story. The amount of dumb decisions that characters needed to make to create that plot line in those last volumes is unjustifiable, together with completely changing the personality of many characters and undoing the stablished world building to insert the nonsensical plot line completely marred the novel. I can't point out all the infuriating plot holes and inconsistencies without spoiling the ending, but i left commentaries in all relevant ending chapters describing some of them. In conclusion, i recommend this only for newer readers or for those with some strong suspension of disbelief.
