Description
Valhalla is a game company renowned for its groundbreaking VRMMORPGs—immersive worlds that captivate and enchant anyone daring enough to step into them. Yet, unbeknownst to the public, every one of Valhalla's game worlds is real. The NPCs are living, breathing beings; the worlds, monsters, and people are not mere simulations but fully functional and genuine.
Faced with a dwindling number of viable worlds, Valhalla embarks on an ambitious mission: the creation of a brand-new world designed specifically for their players. To achieve this, they send three men—an unlikely team consisting of a cook, an artist, and a civil engineer—tasked with cultivating a realm teeming with life, challenges, and boundless potential.
Their objective? Make this new world a place worth living in. Magic, dragons, empires—nothing is off the table. But first, they have to survive.

- Queenie IVRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Story Score
The story starts off simple and fun, letting the readers have a good grasp of the characters and the world but it also has an undertone of something more in this virtual reality world. It was chilling and exciting to read when the story got deeper.
Style Score
Although the story isn't overly descriptive, you can still have a good grasp of what is going on. The action is good and the pacing is commendable.
Character Score
The characters are very fun and interesting to explore, I'm still early in the story and I haven't had an emotional connection with them but I won't deny that the characters feel human and are very interesting.
Grammar Score
I didn't notice any grammar mistakes (I'm not excellent with grammar myself). Good job!
Overall, I thought the story might start out the same way as others I've read with the virtual reality world, killing slimes and goblins, leveling up etc but it definitely didn't start like that. It set up a cozy blanket for you but a silent reminder that everything is not as it seems in this world.
I'm interested to see how it turns out and it gives me Alice in borderlands undertones. - drechenauxRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The premise of the story is that there are three people sent into a world filled with magic to build up its foundations from the ground up. The moment that they run into a prehistoric tribe, they are thrust into it and through a lucky encounter earn the tribe's trust. They start leveling up their skills as they adapt to a new world and help this tribe expand and thrive.
Story: I find it to be a very interesting premise, and I think it's the strongest foundation of this work. Its executed well without throwing too much at you, but slowly our heroes begin to learn that there is more to this world than meets the eye.
Character: The three main leads have distinct personalities immediately noticeable from each other. The people of the tribe they encounter feel a bit more flat, but I think that's partially as we don't get to see them speak too much. No major complaints here.
Grammar: I didn't notice any kind of major issues throughout reading.
Style: The style is simple but adequate to get the story across.
Overall, I think that this is quite a nice 'kingdom builder' along with video game and mystery elements. It is a bit more on the comedic side, though not overtly so and still has its serious moments. - M.E. CheRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5The premise is fascinating, blending MMORPG elements with the discovery of real, alternate worlds managed by a corporation. It’s a unique concept with a lot of potential.
The pacing is comfortable and warm, with a friendly tone and a hint of adventure that doesn’t rely on a big bad villain. This makes the story accessible and engaging.
The writing is technically strong, with no grammar issues and a smooth flow. The first chapter effectively sets up the protagonists’ situation and is enjoyable to read.
Valhalla, the corporation, has an eerie vibe that adds an interesting layer of tension and intrigue.
The humor and absurdity are a strength for the series. It’s easier to add drama later than to introduce humor into a serious story, so this tone works well.
"Harbingers of Civilization" presents an interesting premise where MMORPG worlds are real places governed by a corporation. While the narrative evokes themes of colonialism and cultural interruption (think Star Trek's Prime Directive), the writing is compelling, and the pacing is strong. There are intriguing themes about tourism and commodification that might lend depth if addressed intentionally. - GrumpsterRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Harbingers of Civilisation is an incredibly well written story of a trio, found in another world. It's isekai, of course, but I have found the premise of the travelling/isekai to be interesting, to create a new world that is interesting in a Virtual reality. Character-wise, I have found the trio, Ryden, Rice and Darius, to have amazing chemistry, especially in their dialogue. I have found Rice to be the fondest, especially with what he does in the early chapters. His introspection as a character makes him a ludicrously entertaining character to read. Moving onto the narrative, which I have touched on slightly, I was slightly sceptical at first, but found Harbingers of Civilisation to be a great breath of fresh air, with an interesting premise and plot that pits these three into a precarious and interesting situation.
The style and prose is great, though there are some sections that may need some trimming, such as descriptions, as I think they could be streamlined and simplified slightly without losing the sheer brilliance of the prose's effects, whilst the introspection has no problems and I find it to be a great way to provide insight into what's going on throughout the narrative. Grammarwise, the story is also quite strong on that front, overall this is a story that I have found incredibly interesting, incredibly strong start as well. Strangely enough, it immerses the reader in the world itself and what may lie ahead, hints of that Slime Anime, compacted in a very different style that works .
