- Aeolis the SageRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Normally, I use an advanced review, but I do not need the extra detail. This fiction was exceptional in every aspect, such that an advanced review would be redundant. The only thing I would change would be Andromeda not dying, but that was simply the authors skill making us like her.
- Nobody9Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story must be required reading for anyone trying to write an MCU fanfiction featuring most of the key characters.
It's 734 pages long but manages to tell a complete beginning to end story with more efficiency than I have ever seen from an MCU fanfiction epic. Others have tried and yet they bloat into the millions of pages. This managed to do the same in a book the length of a Game of Thrones novel. One. Not twenty like those that think they have to tell everyone's story and get bogged down in twenty subplots and struggle to release one chapter per month until they burn out. READ THIS! It has everything you need to see the DNA of an efficient story with ONE main character and ONE sideplot involving those that get in the main character's way.
Required reading aspiring writers. Read this! - SoldiergeneralRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's rare for stories especially fan fics to do a good job of the anti-hero trope where the main character slowly becomes more corrupted given the weight of his responsibilities all while being aware about it. Author does a good job in writing the interactions between characters and in reasonable mistakes being made by MC.
- Casein NitrateRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5A trainwreck you can't stop watching. Where did it go wrong? And why did it go wrong like so? I'm now left with a hole in my heart, wondering if it could have gone better. I guess, from the moment he interacted with hydra, was when it went wrong.
Plotwise it was good, grammar decent I think, style was also good enough. Characters were great I think, sure, many were flat, but some were good. At least, I loved some of the characters. Now I realise, tragedies aren't for me, leaves me too lost and aimless. Overall though, good story. Give it a try, still at a loss at the time of this review. - CaduceusRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This is a very good story in my opinion as someone who hasn't seem many MCU fics. The characters are good (no idea how similar the smaller ones like PRIDE are to their original counterparts), the plot generally makes sense, the motivations and powers of our MC are clear. Pretty good.
The MC does feel a little overpowered at times but not too much, he feels like a more proactive Tony Stark. The last dozen or so chapters are bit confusing since he seems to just completely embrace Hydra instead of feeling conflicted but I can chalk it up to the years of working for/with them.
Read the first couple of chapters and, if you enjoy the more political feel of it, then I think you will like it. - KNOWLEDGERoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Hail Hydra is a unique take on the Marvel isekai that explores a rarely if ever seen portion of the universe...politics and business. While it may not be my cup of tea it is worth reading and taking the chance.
Style
The style is fairly decent throughout the story. Author doesn't bore the reader with pages and pages of info dumps and honestly respects anyone reading this storys' intelligence by not overly describing characters or places that can be known from the source material. This style does have the downside of having certain key plot points be skimmed over since I believe the author has the story well planned out however their knowledge of the overall plot and the elements within the story is skewing their view of what should be included and what only needs a passing mention
Story
Without giving spoilers, the story so far has actually been incredibly interesting to read. Like I said at the start the author took this in a different direction than most fanfictions and didn't make this a typical power fantasy and instead focused on exploring the business and political side of things and how if they weren't completely useless in-universe things could've been done differently. The first few chapters does involve the MC being sort of railroaded into a place the author wanted him to be and it unfortunately comes off a bit awkward however past that the story takes on a more organic approach instead of things just happening. Now for one of my biggest gripes about the story...politics...Not to say that politics doesn't have a place in this story and in fact it's the opposite. My problem is in how it was used. For one it is ever present...I'm skimming through the chapters so I don't say something I am misremembering and in nearly every chapter it is mentioned, and this is even prior to any mention of the MCs political ambitions. The unfortunate consequence of this is that instead of the MC appearing as its own independent entity the author created it reads more like the - TheAngryJerkRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The start is a bit rough but you eventually get what's going on by around chapter 10. It doesn't have the most intricate plans for a super villain story nor the biggest persona energy, but is pretty solid all round.
For a story called "Hail Hydra?" it doesn't actually do a lot of classic Hydra business, it's like Hammertime where they are kept mostly at arms reach while business gets booming. - TorenRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Still early on, but decent so far. Playing the long con as a 'bad guy', hyper-intellectual, pragmatic and suppressing emotions to the point nearly qualifying as a high-functioning sociopath. We'll see how this pays off eventually, but I'm enjoying the MC's perspective and life in the MCU up through chapter 16. (as always, i'd prefer to have found this at closer to chapter 160, but what can you do)
Thanks for the fanfic and I hope you stick with it. - CocobumRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5The story itself is great and I love it, but he is not a villain, he is an antihero at best. He is a hero with a goal, and I am not getting the villain vibe from him due to his moral dilemmas. So, author, I recommend removing the villain lead tag and changing it to an antihero lead tag. That's all, great story though.
- SageofloreRoyal Road★★ 2.0Would be cool if it could be more understandable. As it is currently it's a confusing mess of ideas that don't a good motivation behind them. Time travel made the story pointless, and the mc is just not a likeable character at all. Not sure if we are meant to suffer through reading from his point of view but most of the time I was more interested with reading other POV's than his.
His driving goal doesn't really seem to matter as well and is practically forgotten within 10 chapters. And instead becomes a bunch of what if... scenarios he constantly complains about being unable to change or thinks he is getting railroaded into.
