I feel like i got smacked over the head by the plot. I was like reading it and boom, smacked silly. I hate to say it, but it's just too hard to read. There's like aliens. I think. But the aliens take over an existing game system? Maybe? Then people play this game or maybe they fight for reals in like perma mode? But there are actual aliens that got beat by other aliens inside the ship but inside the ship is a game and not real but they are real cause they can help you and kill you and go home. And it's a game remember because the time travelers that either have voices inside their heads or a comm system (with me having no clue of who is talking so I say theyre schizophrenic) said so. Wait time travel? But aliens! It's just too much... too mcuh...
Pare it down and slow it down with all that info. I dont even know the main characters names. It sounds like cool and all but it's just super confusing. And not like Steven Erickson gonna drop you into the middle of the story and figure it out as you go along confusing. If you wanna do something like that read the Malazan Book of the Fallen series for some master class on this subject. He throws you in the deep end makes you work for it, but you love it even more becaue of that fact. It works because he parses it so you can digest some of the information before giving you some more. Your story is kinda like chugging a gallon of milk. Sure you can get it all down, but you're probs just gonna barf it all back up and feel bad aftterword.
