Description
After being critically injured during an assassination attempt on his father, a teenage Sam Knightsbridge is immersed into a SIM, a therapeutic VR technology that speeds healing or extends life when you’re inserted via Neuralink.
SIM environments provide a level of immersion indistinguishable from real life.
For Neuralinked patients, a SIM world is a reality where you level up to heal. Alternately, for those who insert using peripherals, SIMs are the ultimate playground.
But there are two catches if you’re Neuralinked in. First, you lose access to all recent real-life memories. Second, you mustn’t get ejected from the SIM. That happens if you die in the wrong way while immersed.
So it’s simple:Risk drives progress. Progress drives healing. But death is dangerous.
MostNeuralinked patients are never subject to SIM situations where they might die thewrong way.
But Sam’s SIM is set in the American Wild West, where gunfights at high noon and getting bushwhacked by outlaws are part of the landscape. And Sam arrives in the SIM with a bounty on his head.
The ruthless cabal that put the hit on Sam’s father believes Sam has information that could destroy their plans. The conspirators will stop at nothing to protect those plans. So Sam is being hunted both online and off – in the SIM and in real life.
That’s just thebeginningof Sam’s perilous journey. The challenges that stack against Sam will test his beliefs, his relationships, his skills, and his entire view of the world.
If he survives.
“Gunfighter: Conspiracy” is the first book in a science-fiction / fantasy LitRPG trilogy set in a recreation of the American “Old West.” Here, gunfights are a critical means of progressing, Native Americans are an economic powerhouse shaping the world with their charms and talismans, and an amoral organization has decided this fast-growing new environment is ripe for exploitation.
In SIM Space, dying can be either painful …or permanent.

- AalanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Our vigilante pony has done an extremely good job in writing this story. Our MC has been severely injured and a new medical technology is available to help him recover. This technology places the MC into a game world set in the United States' Wild West period. As the MC does well, so does his recovery. However, there is a chance of death. Not just in the game, but also out in the real world. With shadowy forces closing in on the MC from both sides, will the MC be able not only survive, but also heal and get stronger along the way?
The characters and plot are all well done. Very few issues grammatically and the author actively makes effort to respond and fix issues that are pointed out.
This is a highly recommended read. - WorrallRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I am very grateful to TC and their support team for creating a work of fiction capable of reintroducing me to the delighful world of immersive literature. I really enjoyed the experience of learning alongside of Sam as he became familiar with SIMS, shootouts, horses, relationships, you name it. I haven't felt this attached to a group of characters since Stephen King's Dark Tower series.
In the interim years, I had forgotten what a powerful role books have played in my life. This first book in the Gunfighter series allowed me to build strong strong connections with Sam, his family, other residents... even a few of the bad guys!
The author has done a tremendous job of humanizing both the protagonists and antagonists, which to my mind is the literary difference between scrambled eggs and a soufflé. While the "bad guys" certainly contain a few mindless drones hell-bent on destruction, there are moments of nuance and concern in Gunfighter: Conspiracy that many authors neglect.
I am very satisfied with this effort, and am already enjoying the early chapters of Gunfighter: Invasion. I can't think of a group of people to whom I would not recommend this book. It scratches many itches, from action shootouts to romance, knuckle-headed camaraderie (which I can't shake thinking of as "comedy-raderie") around the fire to Native American mysticism. It even explores family dynamics, and how quickly and unexpectedly those can change, and looks into the pros and cons of several potential technological advancements in the medical and virtual reality fields.
Finally, I would be doing the book a disservice if I did not allude to how brilliantly the "bad guys" are materialized. Where did they come from? What is their mission? Why are they after Sam?
While the author does a brilliant job of serving up the second-to-second combat results (which are generated by a game engine being developed in hand-in-hand with the novels - and aren't fudged for the sake of the story! See to try it out), - kellabelleRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0What a fantastic story! I just finished Gunfighter: Conspiracy Book 1 and was left marinating in all the deep emotions you hope for when you read a book. It was a thrilling roller coaster ride of unexpected twists and turns, sensational fight scenes, sci-fi mind-bending scenarios, sweet romance, super smart strategies, and incomparable bravery. I am so not the target audience for this genre, but I was immediately and irreversibly hooked.
Sam, the main character, is inserted into a massive, immersive, virtual world so that he can heal from injuries sustained in a nefarious car crash. He drops into the Wild West where he is a wanted man, and he must fight for his life at every turn. The very world that is meant to help heal him, could end his life.
During his treacherous journey, he meets memorable people who he will fight for, and learn from.
I give this inventive story Five Stars as I thoroughly enjoyed this epic journey of violence, science fiction, finding one’s family, finding strength and courage when it seems impossible, helping others, and where healing or dying may not be a choice. Yes, the last word has been read, but Sam, his friends, and all the adventures they shared continues to wonderfully roll around in my head. - moggyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0First, this was written by someone who knows how to write. The descriptions are great, and the characters all feel real. The combat is really, really well written and exciting. Just the right amount of crunch, not too much, just enough to give you a good feel for the game. There are a lot of twists and turns that I didn't see coming and a fleshed-out series of bad guys (and heroes) who make the story very interesting.
This was written by someone who sounds like they not only know firearms and combat, but from experience. There are no mistakes at all that I could find, and some of the game play decisions made by the main character sometimes left me shocked with how smart they were. Really great.
I love that this isn’t just the same old fantasy series and while some might not like the VRMMO aspect, I suggest they give it a chance. There are really good story reasons for this to take place in both the virtual and real worlds. Try it, I think you’ll love it!
Highly recommended! I really can't wait to start diving into the second book of the series, and hope that there are many more.
