"The party is the progression"
During a game of their favorite TTRPG, Zach and his friends fall through a portal into a world of monsters and adventure. When Zach wakes in this new world, he realizes that they didn't all end up in the same spot. Or the same time.
Now he must use his wits — and his connection to others — to survive long enough that he can find his friends and rally them to his cause despite their new lives in this world. Can he level up, assemble the party, and defeat the Evil Queen? And what about his burgeoning feelings for his friend?
What you’re in for:
*A setting inspired by old-school pen and paper RPGs, rather than video games.
*A story more concerned with character (and Romance), than heavy progression elements. Game progression and stats are still key.
*A flawed protagonist. Messy characters. Good people despite all that. And bad people too.
What to expect:
*Scenes of intense violence.
*Some frank, if infrequent, depiction of sexuality, but no explicit on page intercourse.
*Lots of strong female characters. No harem.
When it updates: Done for now! I only upload on here, Scribblehub, and Patreon. If you see the book elsewhere, report it!

- selah.123Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Characters are realistic and vibrant. Intro hooks readers, even those who know little of role play, into an enchanting world with elements of suspense. Great story telling and plenty detailed descriptions that bring the world to life.
Can't wait to see where this saga goes! ps I love the callback to the crossbow - CashewRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0When writing LitRPGs, I feel like some author’s get so caught up in stats and the ‘system’ that they forget to tell a story. Guess I’ll Play Healer is a great example on how to do this right! The system and stats are present and important but the focus of this story is the characters.
There is a unique Time Dilation tool used to kick this story off which creates an interesting dynamic among a group of friends and it leaves so much room for creative ways to build the world and mystery.
Our main character is a bit of a loner among his friends, but he’s not so awkward that it’s cringy. And the cringe that is present is intentional and serves to build the characters. Its well done in my opinion.
The action scenes are top notch, creative, and just brutal enough to be effective.
The writing is snappy, casual, and easy to digest. There are some really good sections of prose but it’s not bogged down in flowery descriptions. The only issue regarding the writing would be the occasional slipping of verb tenses, but it doesn’t detract from the story in any way.
If you want a character focused LitRPG with witty dialogue, a touch of romance, and some weird, yet fun moments, this is it!! - Deathwish665Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Such a cool story concept, I'm loving stories like this!
Especially the incorporation of a TTRPG lile party!
I'm looking forward to seeing what comes from this one.
Keep up the good work and bah to whoever gave you a low enough rating to drop your overall like that they are a bum. - KnightlyreadingRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have always been just a reader. Content to sit back and enjoy free fictions, but then i saw one of my new favorite stories lost an overall star and I cannot stand for that.
This story is too vould be only have 4 stars on a site with such a janky rating system.
This story is just fun. Its a group of mostly friends playing D&D. How can anyone down vote that?!
The way the author plays with time and the main characters hesitation is remarkable. Im sure the main character instantly regrets his moment of cowerdice and spends the rest of his time trying to make up for it. (Obviously Im still reading and the story isnt finished.)
Zach is such a great character and is the epitome of character growth for a young man still trying to figure himself out. Judge the character if you must but let the story play out give the author time to develop his guy. From what I have read its worth it.
Not really sure what style means, so I'll just say this is a nice and easy read. I don't lose my place as I go and on the odd occasion I make Speechify read it to me( sorry not sorry) i never have an issue following what is happening.
I agree with the previous commenter whoever gave this story a low rating is a bum. - BitEater829Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0The adventure is strong with this one. I really like the aspect of the story where the party starts off somewhat spread out. There seem to be a lot of this sort of story where the party just sticks together for no real reason other than that they're all from earth. I'm not a huge fan of that, and this story does a lot better in that regard. The characters each seem to really have their own motivations, which is refreshing.
Style Score is a 5 stars from me. the characters having their own motivations feels a lot more real to me, especially in a story like this. It's somewhat new, and I like that.
Story gets 5 stars from me. I'm not sure if the bad guy is the DM or the evil queen. Maybe both? It's got me interested for sure.
Grammar is 5 stars from me. I didn't notice any errors, and there was a new word for me to learn, which I really like.
I would give characters 6 stars if I could. These characters feel a lot more real and relatable than most in stories like this. They have their own motivations and desires which while they aren't all directly spelled out, you can get a good idea of what they are from how a given character acts. it's really nice!
Overall, I have to give this one 5 stars. I'll be following for sure and playing catch up on reading it whenever I can. - PteratrudeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Better written than a lot of stuff on here. The pacing is about right, and the characters seem like they have enough richness to them to keep a long book interesting. Looking forward to reading more, learning about the world and system and seeing the good guys prevail! I'm only a couple of chapters in, but I'm glad there are so many more for me to read before I'm caught up. I know what I'm doing tonight!
- R. C. VettaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0On the surface this looks like a Tabletop Roleplaying Game Isekai and it is.
On the surface it looks like the main character is just some guy in his twenties and he is.
Its once you get passed the surface that you can truly appreciate the journey the author is taking you on with their unique twist on the Isekai premise and the average joe main character. Start reading and you won't want to stop.
Style- This piece of fiction can best be described as a down to earth piece of reading. You won't have to remember copious amounts of complex names right away. The dialog feels natural and authentic, which is quite hard to do when your character is having to deal with a survival situation in a world that is not their own.
Grammar- I caught two words impersonating different words and believe they have been dealt with. Those pesky buggers sneak past the spell check security pretending to be the word you thought when typed. Other wise no problems.
Story- If I said it was awesome and put a sufficient number of exclamation points behind it maybe you will take it seriously and read it so instead I am going to say you are missing out on a gem of a story if you don't read this. Click the follow and read it over time, this story is worth it.
Character- What can I say about Zach. He's a bro. I feel like all dudes have been Zach at some point in their twenties. Unfortunately for Zach all of his thoughts are laid bare to the reader from his first person perspective. The thoughts of a twenty something year old man are not always going to be roses and sunshine. Sometimes he's going to fixate on things and sometimes he's gonna make out with a gnomish girl and feel some type of way about it afterwards. My point is Zach is an expertly written character who by design still has a lot of growing up to do and when you read this you are going on that journey with him. I've signed up for that journey with a follow.
Now it's your turn to roll the dice on this story! - Tamir BuchshtavRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall, I love the concept of the party being isekai'd together but separated. Makes it a lot of fun for the MC to have to uncover everythng that happened before he got there.
Style:
Well executed, but not my cup of tea. Something about how the 4th wall breaking is executed, with the MC constantly talking to the supposed reader, just doesn't do it for me.
Story:
Off to a very nice start. I feel like there's lots of foreshadowing going on here, and that the biggest "mystery" introduced so far is fairly obvious. Which could either be that way, or a setup for some sort of inversion of expectations in the future. Very nice.
Grammar:
Haven't noticed any issues with the grammar. definitely nothing that breaks the reader's flow.
Characters:
I don't like the MC.
This is not to say that he's badly written. He's not.
He's just well written to be, in my opinion, unlikeable.
Don't know enough about any other caharacters so far.
Thoug the other male party member being aloof and sunk each one into their own interests bugs me somewhat.
Like, other than the missing Sofia, the female party members seem to both converge on the self-admited semi-incel MC, but the males are largely unreacable.
Seems a bit forced, IMO. - fruitlettersRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The first chapter absolutely blew me away, was so surprising, and so much fun! I'm so glad to have discovered this book before the onslaught of winter. Def gonna huddle in and soak it up! There are so many fun characters and they are all distinct and well-crafted. I will definitely be recommending this read to my friends.
- MaxreadsalotRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Three main heroes so far are sociopaths murdering their way through everything with zero remorse or thoughts about morality of their actions.
And it has a huge contrast/inconsistency with otherwise normal actions and thoughts outside of battles.
Like they are completely normal and relatable people that can murder you at any moment for any reason, laugh about it and go on as if nothing happened. You are probably an NPC, it's not a big deal even if you are not anyway...
Actions themselves are often questionable/reckless and required a LOT of plot armor for them to stay alive.
So it is hard to sympathize to main characters if you think a little about their actions. And it is hard to take the story seriously given all bloody but ultimately shonen style fighting.
Overall a good story. It just triggered exactly the right points that I personally don't like.
Give it a try and see if it's your cup of tea.
