- BookwyrmGenxenRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I absolutly love this series, so, thank you for writing it! This is honestly one of my favorite series so far. The characters and story are so well made, and their is so much style and effort put into this series. I don't even know how to express how much I love this series, and I can't wait to see what happens next!
- CaffeineBoxRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Gravity and Divinity is self-aware about tropes and plays with them well. I can see the inspiration from A Practical Guide to Evil, but don't worry about this being a copy-paste of the same thing! The genres are wildly different, leading to a completely new experience. You can tell that the author is writing for themselves first and their audience second. It has that kind of passion to it.
The first few chapters were rough, I got confused with the whole "Queen" thing, but by the time the first dungeon delve concluded I was hooked.
I like stories that play around with self-awareness. Especially so when they do it well. This one does so exceptionally, with a genre-aware main character. It doesn't fall into the same pitfall that I've seen a bunch of other genre-aware main characters do either, where their genre-awareness grants them immunity to anything and everything. Jay, the main character, has to fight and struggle to keep his archetype--that of the comedic hero--on track. There are calm moments, and serious moments too, which do great as a breather between the more intense scenes and setup for future plot points. It does the wonder of suddenly being a superpowered person in a mundane world well. The main characters don't have to hide from the government, which is usually a big thing a lot of stories use to prevent their main characters from going wild or exploring their powers.
The story still feels like early-stage, but that's probably from all the anticipation it's built up for future developments. The first book does great as a foundation and introduction to a wider world and story. Barring the first few chapters which made me think the whole thing would be all nonstop-randomness. (I was proven wrong later.) It still made me curious about what was happening.
The characters were first introduced as tropes or archetypes, and they do seem to lean into those archetypes a bit much. But that can be explained by things like YoAnna (The Queen) selecting exceptional ind - EternityGamerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love the take on s crazy but also down to earth mc. I needed a story were the mc will just do stupid shit cause he can. It feels like I'm reading an actual story of how people would act giving powers like he has. I'd do the things he's done and more if I had his power
- GreenthumbRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm enjoying this story quite a lot. It's been a lot of fun and has had me smiling quite a lot.
I'm not exactly sure which qualities to keep in mind for style but I'll try. The story has very good pacing. It's been non-stop entertaining. The author has edited or rewritten some of the early chapters for quality. I missed those but those chapters but the rewritten ones read very well. Chapters move smoothy from one to another and POV changes are clear and satisfying, moving the plot along well.
For the story, it's well-written and entertaining. I'm finding that I'm looking forward to each chapter. The story has enough tension to be purposeful but not so much that it loses its entertainment value.
The author has avoided info dumps but still managed to create a believable world setting. It's a bit early for many detail as yet. I look forward to seeing the consequences of the Champions new powers, the goddess and the system on the civilian population/ characters which should be developing soon.
Grammatically, I find no issues. Spelling, punctuation, word choice are clear and clean.
For characters, only the goddess and the MC, Jay and his team have had much development as yet. I find them believable characters that I can easily become invested in.
Developing 12+ characters will be very challenging; I think it's a little early to have developed all of them. A personal quirk, I may have trouble keeping track of who's who. I'm looking forward to more character development as the characters interact more. The story beginning jumped into action pretty quickly without too much of those interactions. Not a bad thing, it's pretty much required for serialized story's like these.
I really hope that this review will encourage readers to give this story a chance. I think you could really enjoy it. - LichantRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm not used to doing reviews, this is the first one I do in RR in fact. However, I feel the moral obligation to do so after seeing the author's concern about the punctuation of the story.
This is gold. This is simple, beautiful and shiny gold. I'd say I found gold while looking for copper, but I honestly didn't even expect to find anything in the first place.
I didn't expect that a random story that I started reading at 3AM would make me write my first review in this place, I didn't expect that what seemed like a simple and direct story would develop so well at first glance simple and direct characters, I didn't expect to find someone capable of writing light and heavy atmosphere at the same time and, I certainly didn't expect that a plot with hints and subtle clues about what would happen next would twist in on itself and throw everything out the window in favor of an extremely unpredictable and meta-narrative resolution.
However, I'm glad I didn't expect anything and received gold. I'm glad I can expect a good read now. - eric_riverRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I felt like a kid again when i got into this
if you like action comedies, don't give this one a miss!
The plot is wild and fun, and well deserving of some praise
The characters will have you reminiscing high school days
The Characters are what make this book stand out from the rest
Their interactions are hilarious, they’re just the best
The dialogue and arguments, the way they interact
Are sometimes inspired by how “florida man” would act :P
The highschool tropes are all accounted for, and done just right
A bunch of youths you’d meet out on a summer’s friday night
Even when they’re written to be mean, you’ll like them all
The way they tear into each other is a freakin ball
They really fill the story well, and it’s a fun one too
It’s nostalgically silly, but it quickly grows on you
It almost feels like spy kids mixed with an apocalypse
And characters will entertain whenever action dips
The style is packed with laughs, its pace is led with dialogue
It’s packed with puns and references, and never starts to slog
The system stuff is minimal, but when they are, it works
And we’re still getting to know all the system’s rules and quirks
From chapter six, we get a lot more dungeon style action
You’ll find all the violence to your satisfaction
I found the tone of this was always quite optimistic
The character’s beliefs and values seem realistic
The grammar isn’t perfect by the way, but you won’t mind
The writings flows despite a few odd typos you may find
Since it’s easy to filter them out as i’m reading
I don’t think five stars for grammar would be misleading
All in all, i’d give this book to any system fan
You’ll love the younger cast, they’re young but doing all they can
It’s fun and very lighthearted, which is my preferred style
The dialogue alone will leave you with a goofy smile - MerrypessimistRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So the beginning was pretty impressive and then it went a little spiky of great and suck, then it was kinda depressing, then it was all "nah, we good" and now it's all crazy, but good crazy.
And since I'm apparently too good at summarizing without spoiling my review needed to be twenty words longer. Mission accomplished. - Pmonk 42Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0this for sure is a fun read! The story flows well, the characters are likeable and fun to folow. it is a good story not ground breaking but well put together. you can help but like how the characters interact and change as the story progress . The story has good timing going from action to action and yes some leves here and there.
- SatziRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The early chapters before revision were quite cringe and most likely where the majority of the negative reviews come from but that doesn't reflect the story as a whole since the author was inexperienced at the time.
The style of the writing is very nice imo, the fights are descriptive and action packed, while there are 4 or so warrior if what we've seen with the MC's team is the norm for warriors then there will be much difference in warriors and their "wombo combos"
The story is very good, while it feels a little weird that they'd only be chosen a few hours before their first dungeon that can dismissed easily enough as their patron still being a literal teen
The grammar is very solid, I don't know whether the author just got straight A's in all his english/writing classes or what because I only found 2 or 3 typos in my time reading
The characters are great, they feel like people and arent instantly super heroes who fear nothing, while they do fight and win they are still utterly terrified of the monsters and their own mortality, and their fights do not end without consequences
