In the world of Beilia, Gods and Monsters are as universal as mortals and magic. The only constant one can count on is the equalizing force of the system to give all beings a chance at success.
Andras Grigori, Archmage of the Dark arts, learns this the hard way when the ultimate spell he’s crafted in preparation for his final battle against his former ally, The Hero Gildea, sends his soul hurtling back in time instead of preserving it for the future.
Now stuck in the body of a confused child named Vincent Stesk, the two begin a journey inexorably linked by magic and contradiction through the fragmented societies of their splintered world, trying to make sense of one another while still learning about their surroundings and avoiding the ire of the gods.

- A variableRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Really loving this hidden 💎, I binge read it, a quite unique take on reincarnation novels by having two souls instead of merging l... excited to see how the story progresses. Though sometimes he does act like a child, but I hope as the story progresses the author will look into it...
And pls do more updates 😅 - Forgot10_ProphetRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Came in expecting a necromancy based progression story with an overpowered MC. What I got was a slow burn 'slice of life' story with a character driven plot of surprising depth and nuance, some very well done action sequences and sub-plots, and the building blocks for ramping action and progression to come. Lots of interesting and unique concepts have been introduced. Theres subtle hinting at rising action and progression to come as the story unfolds and I cant wait to see it.
The story is well written and very much about the characters and their relationships developing more than the powers and abilities so far, the abilities and powers themselves are drip fed throughout the story in interesting and creative ways that hint at the possibilities to come. The magic system itself shows promise and has great potential. How the magic develops shows creativity and depth missing from a lot of litrpg stories. The author clearly put some real thought into it.
Pacing is slow but it absolutely works for the type of story being told. It looks like the story is reaching a turning point and will begin ramping up as the MC has hit a major milestone and unlocked the full potential lf the magic system.
Im hooked, and looking forward to how the story develops in the future. - jmassatRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Like the earlier reviewer, I was taken by surprise by how great and hard-hitting this story is. What I expected was baby min-maxing with, like, skeleton jokes. What I got was strong characters that only get better with each new revelation we get, and a slowly unfolding world that holds a lot of promise and mystery.
Andras is a fallen hero. Betrayed and wronged in his old life, he uses his second one almost as a bizarre mirror-world do-over, seeking better friends, better family bonds, and of course a stronger necromancer's arsenal.
Currently the story is still following him in his youth, with his system locked tantalizingly behind an 18-year timer, but there's still plenty of strategizing and planning for his future. His baby years do make him come off Stewie Griffin-ish, which I'm not a huge fan of, but it's better than the alternative: a hyper-serious big brain baby with zero sense of humor.
In any case, the years pass quickly, and both the humor and drama get an upgrade. Chapter 4 is where things first get serious and the story's root concept starts to gets fun. Chapter 6 is the first "wham" that got me truly excited to read on. The cast is expanding, and their personalities and backstories keep getting new wrinkles.
Yes, there is a long interlude. It's fucking great. It starts slow, but then the bodies start hitting the floor, and by the end of it, I felt like I'd read a page out of some classic epic.
The author is very vocal about striving to improve, but setting aside some grammar issues (mainly with dialogue tags -- which is something 90% of the internet messes up anyway), The one beyond the veil is an amazing storyteller. And as the protagonist starts unlocking his magic and exploring more of the world, things can only get better. - Paco LopezRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5First going to address the genres tagged. All seem to fit so far and appear to be well utilised.
Next up is the content warning. As of now limited gore, some profanity, allusions to sexual and traumatising content. Nothing too triggering but still there if it may unnerve you as a reader.
Moving on I gave a 4 star review for style as the pacing may be slow but it has a nice build up to it. I generally enjoyed the way the story is written and and looking forward to what the author still has planned. I didn't give a 5 stars as I leave those for the stories that scratch my reader's itch just the right way like "He Who Fights With Monsters".
Grammar is well established no errors there. Left it at 4 as the author is still writing and mentioned he is still improving. Will pass back later to give an update.
Story is at 5. This is just that I love gamelit, litrpg, high fantasy and regression stories. I also like the stance the author took with the character's growth tied into the story.
Brings me to Character at 5. All characters are as reasonably fleshed out as can be expected at this point in the story. Well developed and a lots of character growth being seen and set up for development.
That brings me to a score of 4.5 overall. I love reading and was sorely disappointed to find out only 28 chapters were available here for now. I might just join the author's Patreon account and read there. To all those reading this review. Try to read at least Five chapters by then you would get a feel for the pacing. - MandrawRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I liked the premise, and the reversal that came later about Vincent and Andras.
The writing is inconsistent, which might be what really helds this novel back.
The inconsistency I feel is also in the MC but there it might be more intentional.
I hope this isn't in indefinite hiatus, and that with school finishing for the year the author gets some free time. - EugenioRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5For now, it's a slice of life. The premise means that he is a child, that has adult thoughts and knowledge when related to magics but , otherwise, act as a child. There is the usual cliché reasoning behind it that I can't say since it's a spoiler. He is very naive when it comes to love and such.
