- PandaCakesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is the beginning of an cool adventure, I feel nothing, but joy and excitement reading this chapter. I can see a vision of nostalgic awesomeness. Golems, the components that will be utilized(I won't reveal), Masters, attack sequences(TJ has some of the most entertaining combat sequences), etc. This slice of life resonates with my childhood like no other ..digimon, monster rancher, Yugi Oh, Pokemon etc.... TJ you have a formula of excitement and adventure that cannot be passed up. I swear kids are going to grow up with this as their Pokemon, beautiful job tapping into such a cool factor.
- ChaosheroRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Overall this story fits a comfortable and familiar narrative in line with a pokemon fanfic. Young man with no advantages wants to take their battler to the big show. Mixed support from friends and family, straw-man-rich-jerk adversary.
The lost points are all in pacing. At the current pace I expect the kid to have their golem mostly made and in a fight by chapter 150, so I'll check back in 6 months. - JaksterzooRoyal Road★★★ 3.0Hello,
To start off with, I found this story through an ad I believe, read the description, and expected a thrilling novel of a journey, an enthusiastic teen going on a journey with his golem to conquer their league, a strong personality MC who is kind and helpful and loves his family. Which I sort of happened, but this leads into the story score.
The main character isn’t virtuous, he is an angry angst team, in a war torn period, but doesn’t go on an adventure. Unlike what the story suggests, the MC does not adventure or do anything of real note for 130 pages (that’s isn’t already explained in the first 30 pages). Pacing isn’t very good, the main character seems to have a split personality. I also feel like the story is disconnected, the MC is driven by goals, but doesn’t actually drive himself, even though it’s a huge thing, which makes the entire story feel like the MC isn’t special in Golem fighting nor has the skills for it. Which I feel like the author is trying to convey with his training at the gym/dojo, going to his dads shop to fix up a golem and self-lessly using his last wire to repair his dad’s shops golem, then contradicts himself with not even being able to do any damage to a spoiled brat with little/no combat experience, (he has a 4-7 win/loss against a poor golem), and the MC won’t help with chores to help his family or his goals. (Any chores- if it’s multiple of them, fair, that’s shows, but please correct me if I’m wrong, the only example where he did something was make pancakes for him and his sister, which he was already making for himself…’ .
Basically, this story has several key flaws including character development, story development, and pacing.
The strong points are little to no grammar errors, (not by Royal road standards but I mean actual published books, I didn’t really look hard but I didn’t have a single time reading and be like ‘that’s an error’) so probably a 6/5 on grammar for RR standards.
The other strong point, which is offset by - RocvenRoyal Road★★★ 2.5Not a bad story from the few chapters I read. Gives a very good understanding of personality of the characters and the world without info dumping. However, I am having a very hard time imagining certain scenes and the way the golems look. The description of how the golems look is spread throughout the action and it relies on the reader creating a mental image based off a few keywords or prior knowledge. Just not my preferred style for this type of writing.
