This backdrop gives the story a tense, high-stakes atmosphere from the very first chapter. The protagonist, Alex, is introduced as someone grappling with deep loss—his sister’s death is a pivotal emotional anchor that adds layers to his character. His decision to enter ALBEKO, a virtual reality game where time is no longer a resource, feels like both an escape and a chance for redemption.
What really sets this story apart early on is the Shade Master class Alex chooses (or rather, stumbles upon due to a glitch). It’s not the usual overpowered warrior or mage trope; instead, Alex wields the ability to summon shades of fallen monsters, giving him a dark, mysterious edge. This power, combined with his hidden, glitched stats, immediately makes Alex an enigma—not only to the other characters but also to the readers. He’s overpowered, but in a way that feels fresh and dangerous.
The supporting characters are equally engaging. Betsy, the skilled archer with her own hidden motives, and Drax, the boisterous barbarian who adds humor and levity, round out the team well. However, it’s Luke, the paladin who can only speak the word "Verum," who steals the show early on. Luke’s cryptic presence adds a layer of mystery that keeps you intrigued—why is he so important? What role will he play in the greater conflict? By the end of the first few chapters, it’s clear that Luke is far more than a simple NPC or companion; he holds secrets tied to the fate of both worlds.
The world-building is excellent, especially within ALBEKO. The first five chapters establish not just a game world but a place full of danger, political intrigue, and societal structure. The introduction of the time-based economy in the real world bleeds into the virtual space in subtle but effective ways. You get a sense that ALBEKO is more than just a game—it’s a battl
