- CapwallcroftRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Are you interested in dungeons? like really really cool detailed dungeons? Spider dungeons? divine dungeons? natural dungeons? heck even a main character who is a dungeon? the dungeon who does dungeons?
Then this definitely is the book for you!!! Overall, I've read the first six chapters and I must say it's great!! I wholeheartedly approve! While it's a little rough around the edges in the beginning, the overarching story is rock solid! I'm going to keep reading because I'm very interested in where this is going however I want to leave this review because this story definitely needs more attention!!!!!!
Grammar is a little rough but realistically your not going to notice it, character score isn't bad at all, everyone seems to have unique personalities and I would say that the dialogue is great! it flows well and really gives it it's all!! I can definitely see this going crazy by the sixteenth chapter ngl! like the concept of being a dungeon? Emily kinda awesome??? I will say it would be cool if the author like made artwork for what Emily dungeon looked like! (see the traps evolve etc ) but that sounds like work!
Style needs a little bit of work! Dialogue is great but you wont find any crazy poetic descriptors. Then again that isn't what this is about. The whole point of imagery is to aid a story and the story is great! I don't want to spoil too much but this is a very unique and potent spin on this site's favorite genre! This definitely needs more attention! - InyssaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I think the story itself, the intrigue and the feeling of wondering what'll happen next is what the author is best at, which is admittedly a very useful thing to be good at. I didn't think it'd be possible to do much with a premise like 'the MC is a dungeon', but throughout so many words it hasn't stopped being fresh, mostly because the plot moves along very nicely.
The chapters are long, yes, and there are a few slightly jarring jumps within the story that might give some readers whiplash, but I think it works for this story specifically. I'd say definitely give it a shot, I can promise it'll at least be entertaining. - M.S. DavidsonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm simple. I love a good dungeon. Black Rose said "Yo, I heard you like Dungeons," and then made her dungeons run dungeons.
This story is wild and I want to keep reading. But I already know I'm going to be picking at this one when I'm not writing - so I'm reviewing it now. You've got everything in the first few chapters:
Two entire dungeons in a chapter? Check.
Deadly Traps? Check.
Killer Bosses? Check. Check. Double Check.
It's a dungeon crawling romp. I won't lie, I barely care about the dungeon keeper aspect right now. I'm excited for seeing more, but damned if I couldn't just run some dungeons first.
You can really tell Black Rose put a lot of thought into the process of coming up with hooks for dungeons. I'll bet they are an absolute MANIAC to play TTRPG with.
Vivid descriptions, great spooky atmospheres, and so far not too much in the way of a system dialogue.
All-in-all a super fun read for anyone who just loves to sit down and play some D&D like it's the 70s again - Spoiler: that's me.

Are the chapters long? Yes. Each dungeon could be a chapter but I binged like 3 in a row so... I didn't really notice.
Now - all things said, Black Rose has stated multiple times in notes and comments (as well as when they sent the fiction to me) that they have worked dramatically to improve tense drift and I didn't find it that off-putting. I'm a fan of tense drift when needed. You can past-tense and swap to present when you're trying to speed up for a combat scene. It works. But sometimes in the other direction it can be jarring. Combat in past tense and everything else in present can feel weird. - JohnLakeRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5If youre looking to get into some straight-up, straight-to-the-point dungeon crawling look no further! We get a pretty classic nod to dungeon crawling fantasy tropes early that allow us to settle into our expectations. It follows the playbook of mirror scene, tavern and then right into the dungeon stuff. I really enjoy the progress that the characters make and because we get some standard dungeon stuff up front it’s an easy read!
But you just know based on the prologue (and the synopsis) that there’s more to it! Looking forward to delving into that mystery of what it means for a girl to become a dungeon! Very cool concept and it’s what attracted me to this story in the first place. 5/5 for story.
I will echo what some others have said about tense. I’m fine with the first to third perspective shift. In fact, I’m fine with the stylistic choice to NOT delve too far into characters’ heads. It’s definitely not your typical story but I think for what this story is, it works! I feel like I’m looking top-down on Diablo or something where I’m seeing characters move through the important bits without lamenting over every killed spider or something. It’s not how I’m used to characterization but it’s refreshing and the author is staying true to the type of story they want to write! Full points for characters.
I stumbled a bit on typos and more importantly on the tense thing others have mentioned. I’m all for a stylistic choice on tense but in dialogue I can’t think of a reason why one person says and another said. Or why physical description would be flip-flopping. I would take another pass at this and then I’m happy to update my review. Right now I gave 4/5 for grammar because it’s not that distracting just feels a little off to my ear.
Otherwise, this story is a lot of fun, the author is clearly having a lot of fun writing it and that’s really what it comes down to! I just want to go on a cool journey with someone who’s committed to delivering a cool journey and this author i - JinseiRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Genesis Locorum starts in a dreamy haze, with Chapter 0 offering a surreal dive into identity and rebirth. It doesn’t follow the typical hero’s journey; it drifts instead through water, steel, and whispers. The writing leans poetic, abstract, and emotionally charged, though a few grammar quirks crop up. This isn’t your usual dungeon fantasy. It’s mythic sci-fi that opens with a soul searching through the void.
Short, strange, and quietly captivating.
