Description

Egg was meant to be the Endless King, the chosen one, ruler of the known world.

Now he's a potato farmer for witches, and he isn't happy about it.

But when Egg accidentally absorbs the mysterious witching power, Havoc, into his hand - everything changes. He must embark on a dangerous quest for a Gauntlet that can contain the magic before it kills him.

Luckily he's not alone. By his side is an ambitious young witch, an aractaur bodyguard and a bard-thief who used to be a rooster (don't ask). Together they will defeat monsters and marauders alike, develop their skills, and reveal the terrible truth about the Endless King once and for all.

Unless Egg dies first.

It could go either way.

Gauntlet of Egg is a fantasy story that is very well put together and is pretty much on part with what I’ve found in bookstores. It is a delight to settle into the story, and is definitely one that I will be following.
Story: A young king in training is abruptly taken from his home in the sky kingdom and unceremoniously dropped as a ground’s keeper for a school of young witches. While Egg pines to return home, threats lurk all around him, hungry for his hidden potential. While the school master and aid work to keep Egg safe, a young witch grows increasingly addicted to Egg’s untamed power.
Style: Written in 3rd person from multiple POVs. Overall very well put together with well balanced flow of description and pushing the story forward. The writer makes it look easy.
Characters: There’s a number of characters, each well developed with clear motivations of their own, making it very easy to follow when the POV shifts. Egg by far is our central character, a teen boy who was in training to become the next sky king. There’s the multi-armed archani/giant witch who covertly serves as his bodyguard and aid to the Head Witch of the witch school. There’s the Head witch who is sheltering the boy within her school, perhaps using the girl’s magic to hide Egg’s untamed power – I suspect that’s the case, but at this time I’m not sure. Then there’s the witch who has taken an interest in Egg, if only to develop her reputation and increase her control over magic.

Quite a good story and it has potential.
Overall - From king to potato farmer but we all know all kings have that spark for greatness, they just have to find it. And that is the theme of this story, mostly. Then you add in a budding witch to mess up things even more and add in an interesting world set up and you get a good story.
Style - When you write a first-person pov storyline, you want to do as few pov shifts as possible. At least that is my opinion. There are stories that did good, but most dont bring good results as the rapid shifts from place to place and story to story, and perspective can be jarring at the best of executions. And if done incorrectly it just ruins the story. Here it's done nicely, but there are times that I have felt that it was better if they were not done at all.
Grammar - Is perfect from what I saw. I had no trouble at all understanding what was going on while reading.
Story - The story is written nicely. It is strung nicely and there aren't any big or small plot holes to be seen. The magic system is unique and the closest popular approximation of it is in The Witcher books. The setting for the world is a bit unique but that part is for later. Now the story is more focused on Egg, the witch bothering him, and the results of his new occupation. However, I have to point out that there is a slightly jarring feeling because of the fpov switch that happens here and there. Nothing too big so far, but it is there.
Characters - All characters have their own feel in the story and there is character development, especially from Egg. The others so far are nicely fleshed out. No complaints will be heard from me regarding this.
And that is my review, people. I hope I have done the story justice.
    Yours truly, Akten Dreams.

A fantasy trifecta of worldbuilding, character exposure/develpment, and creeping plot. It earned my actual out loud laughter. Pacing makes it feel like an epic. A slow burn but a steady one. There is palpable tension or plot progress stingily meeted out like a skinner box that keeps me looking for more. For a fiction tagged slice of life, it doesn't skimp on meaning.
    Style
The weakist of the scores and it still rocked. The perspectives were well done with nearly all the characters having their own voice. Some of the very side characters felt sameish. But to be fair it's early for an epic and they showed up once. Now the weak spot. there is a flashback that took me far to long to realize was a flashback. Maybe my weakness as a reader.
    Story
At its core is the age old story of the school of hard knocks. When you live in the clouds and take a the luxuries of everyday life for granted then the gravity of reality will reassert itself. Wrapped aroung that core are characters who exist within their own story. Only just getting into the surge of the plot now but it's a well forcasted and believeable incident that was there the whole time.
    Grammar
Spelling, grammar and puncuation never came between me and the story.
    Character
By far the best part of the book. Every time I got irritated at Egg the story and characters acted on my behalf. Then the relationships deepen. Believeable and cute in a nice way. Because of how closely knit the characters are, switching between perspectives exposed more of the narating characters depth without neglecting other characters.
Overall it hooked me in with quality rather than clifhangers. I hope this goes the distance that the epic introduction shows the promise of.

I have been enchanted by this story since the first chapter. Egg is an endearing main character, and springs from the narrative in all his indignant, can't-stand-witches glory. Nilah is a perfect foil for Egg, and the strength of her character is one of the strong foundations of the narrative.
Style - I am a fan of multiple point of view stories, although in the early chapters of Gauntlet of Egg I found some of the shifts in perspective slightly jarring. Perhaps I was not yet familiar with the characters, but I did find myself wanting fewer changes in POV. Now, at Chapter 19, I am fully comfortable with this aspect of the author's style.
I love the archival-source openings to each of the chapters, which add so much to the narrative.
Story - Charming, engaging and very moreish, Gauntlet of Egg is a brilliant story.
Grammar – The author uses consistently crisp, fluid prose. This is first class writing.
Character - The sharply-realized characters in this story, from the main characters through to more auxiliary ones, are a real strength.
Gauntlet of Egg is a treasure of a story. I cannot recommend it more highly, and eagerly await new chapters!
