The system doesn’t make heroes—it tests them
The war against the Sauridius has shattered worlds and broken armies. Private Akamori never asked to be part of it—until the magical essence of a long dead daughter of Anazzi, Dragon Matriarch of the sector, fuses with his soul, binding him to a system that measures his worth in stats, skills, and survival. Each mission grants him power. Each victory costs a piece of his humanity.
Captain Morwen, the Valkyrie of Tohruun, leads the Mage Federation and their allies — survivors through the wreckage of worlds. Condemned for disobeying orders yet hailed as a hero by the commoners, she must keep her soldiers alive while the Federation she serves crumbles from within.
Together they face a galaxy where gods can be killed—but not destroyed. As ancient powers stir and divine echoes infect the living, Akamori’s awakening may be the weapon—or the spark—that ends everything.

- crowrush204Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I think it's quite interesting with the whole "Multiple leads" thing. It adds a lot of perspectives, which I find refreshing. However, I am having a little difficulty following each character.
Grammar and style-wise, the author does a great job. I love the descriptive and vivid sentences, such as
"A word pulsed in his mind after his father spoke."
"Sleep gripped Akamori tightly until a blood-curdling scream tore him from his slumber."
"The normally milky blind eye now glowed lavender and pink, with motes of mind aether drifting free of it."
It can get a little abstract or poetic at times, which makes it hard to follow, especially with multiple protagonists. It makes it a little harder to read, but this is the type of novel I'd recommend for seasoned readers in the first place. - --Masyn--Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I will start off by saying that this story wasn't anything like I expected it to be after the first chapter. The first chapter gave me a very mysterious, handwavium vibe that reminded me a lot of high fantasy novels, but beyond the start, the more web-novelly undertones surfaced. There are a lot of stats and abilities, and the story seems heavily steered towards the system of magic, which I've being honest, goes right over my head.
Part of the reason is because I'm new to these sorts of web-novels; I have never, not once, read something like this from a shelf. For what it wants to acheive, however, it seems to do it all pretty well.
There's a nice between prose and dialogue; characters feel real; the writing style, however, allows for a lot of skimming. I was able to follow along pretty well without having to read every sentence. And when I looked back to check if there was anything I missed, I found that some paragraphs felt like they were meeting the requirements of having description rather than fitting in what was happening on screen (in my mind).
For that reason, I wasn't able to enjoy it very much. Looking at other readers, I see that this is pretty much only me, though. So consider that. :P
I rated the grammar down because some clauses simply weren't complete, and for no particular stylistic reason that I could detect. The opening chapter, lovely, the sentence fragments are beautiful. After that, when the author starts writing "For a moment. He simply...." I was bothered. That felt like a genuine misunderstanding of sentence structure as opposed to a stylistic element. I think the work could do with an editing pass, definitely.
I marked style down for this same reason, only I also disliked that the descriptions didn't feel necessary to understand the scene. Whenever I'm reading, I always notice that the difference between good description and mediocre (or poor) description is that good description connects imagery to the status of the world. For example, you - BellaArtzRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This review is based on the first eight chapters of this fiction.
Now, I'm not really a big fan of military styled stories but in my opinion, this one did pretty well actually since it probably dwelled a lot less on the military part and more on the magic aspect.
What I think this story struggles to do is pic what it wants to stand on from the beginning and that wouldn't be too bad if it didn't seem to have this slowness to it. Maybe, it's a bit slow to give more attention to lore and world building but as far as I've read those are pretty much its scoring points.
In regards to the characters, they're okay and that's just it. A lot of effort seems to have been done to make them all unique and different but they all just sort of blur together until around chapter eight when I could pick that the MC's mother had more spunk and interesting attributes than most of the other cast introduced. Akamori who is the main character, had a pretty interesting start and I can vibe with fact he wants to have his own path but I don't feel the passion towards that all through. It's treated like it's just that fun little quirk he has.
This is just the first eight chapters though, the author may have been struggling a bit in the early stages, and I want to hope things kick off and improve later on because the drag aside, I love the premise and the story all seems to have a lot to offer. From gods, to different civilizations and traditions, there seems to be a wide range of exciting concepts thrown into the mix that I'm sure once done well will make this story and absolute jem to read.
Keep up the good work author and don't get discouraged. I do hope to continue reading once time allows because I can tell there's a lot of raw potential just waiting to be seen. - MrXeriosRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I haven’t read much of this story so far, but it seems to be a type of high fantasy with litRPG elements, and a good protagonist. It’s not really my thing at the moment so I won’t read much further, but the style and grammar are really good, and the story has a promising start.
It’s worth a read at the very least, I’ll keep it in my read later stash to get through the winter. The author said they have 2 books prewritten, so you can expect consistent releases for a while.
Thanks to the author ! - Bjorn56Royal Road★★★★ 4.0I'm going to preface this review by saying I'm not really a big fan of the lit RPG thing. I'm going to talk about it more in the story section, but overall, I'm not going to make negative points about the story just for using them, but for how they are implemented in this story, if that makes sense. This will be more clear when you read the story section of the review. I'm dividing the review into sections because I find it easier to write them that way lol.
Style
Overall, I think this is the strongest category in this particular novel. The creative use of words here is awesome. There are lots of very nice, well-thought-out phrases or descriptions of objects. It reads almost like poetry at certain points, which is a good thing. It doesn't end up falling into that I bought a thesaurus territory either, where it feels like the author is just using big words for the sake of it. It all strikes a very good balance. The author is very clearly talented when it comes to writing elegantly. One thing I would point out is that sometimes you spend too long describing something. It can make the story drag a bit. Even still, those descriptions are really nice and well written, so it's hard for me to give that critique. You may want to just slightly trim down some of the descriptions in the future. But honestly, that's not really a deal-breaker at all.
Story
The story is sprawling and seems to be going in an interesting direction. It kind of reminded me of the wheel of time. The idea of reincarnation that's very prevalent in that series is here. I always find those themes to be very interesting. I found it a little difficult to follow for a while. There's a lot of jumping between characters and locations, which can be very jarring. That being said, this does appear to be an epic sci-fi / fantasy story, so sometimes the beginnings of those are jarring by their nature. I think maybe focusing on one character for a while before jumping to another one might be a good idea, but I'm onl - VetTelisunRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0That's about the best way I could describe my first impressions with the story. It's a fantasy with its focus squarely on immersing the reader into a world. Sometimes to a fault.
Grammar/Style: Starting off, I didn't notice any major errors for grammar or style so I'll give full marks to each of these categories.
Story: As I mentioned above, the overall point of GoG seems to be to immerse the reader into the world. Several terms, names, and overall magical subjects are thrown at the reader within the first chapter alone. This can be disorienting for some readers, especially those who come in expecting your typical LItRPG set-up.
However, for people who enjoy delving into in-story lore and background details, you'll find yourself at home with this method of storytelling. GoG is still very much a fantasy story so expect lots of moving parts behind the scenes.
Characters: This is where the writing may fall short for some readers. While there is a lot of love and focus placed on the background details and world-building, the characters don't get as much time to shine. There are moments, of course, but with so many moving parts, it can be difficult to truly grow attached from the early chapters alone.
Overall:
For people who are interested in story-driven tales with expansive histories, you'll enjoy getting lost in the GoG universe. It's a story that casual readers will need to really take their time with as there are many moving parts to unravel. That being said, if you're a lore lover, go ahead and check this one out. It's got a lot for everyone to share. - CreatureDukeRoyal Road★★ 2.0I'm sorry but I can't continue with the story. The forced service with limited character development because of so many POV chapters of different characters means I can't understand how their wasn't more rsistence, more emotion.
There should have been more chapters of him working through things. Too many words spent on other characters to progress time that our MC feels flat. I feel disjointed and just unhappy reading to the point I skimmed read a few more chapters before I was fully disengaged and stopped caring. I think more chapters spent in the village was required to build up the characters more. Some more emotional investment. Not the MC just repeating endlessly that he wants to leave, wther it his POV or the girls POV.
I will end it here by saying that I'm sure the story and writing improves as we get out the jitters of the story and get into the meat of it. Sadly I just can'ty keep reading, Zero Connection to the character, no investrment on how he'll grow stronger. The girl with funky eyes is under established as a character and feels tacked on.
