Description

It is the year of 1983, the civilized world finds itself eight years into a bloodied and brutal armed conflict between two major powers, the West Ursan Security Coalition and the Eastern Alliance of Euca. While both were separated on their respective continent geographically; fighting raged on across the world on land, sea and air.  While two juggernauts fought tooth and nail for each square mile of land, neutral nations sat precariously on the sidelines as with each passing day, the conflict teetered on the edge of escalation. The Kingdom of Delos however, did not have to wait for long.

Connor O'Neil, a twenty-three year old National Guardsman Tanker,  gets thrown through a baptism of fire as his nation's neutrality is violated and takes up arms. Three long months of fighting has left him in command of the last functioning tank in his Battalion. Out gunned and out numbered, he finds himself having to press on with his beleaguered crew, treading a line between death by the enemy or execution for disobeying orders as he tries to accomplish his own objective... Bringing his crew home.

Despite only having 7 chapters and not many favorites/follows this story is a hidden gem. It follows a tank crew as they make their way through what is essentially a Cold War gone hot scenario. The main focus of the story is on this crew and it does it very well. Each of the characters feels distinct and they have personality which is great.
The action as well is very well done in my opinion although I'm not a tanker or a military person so I can't judge realism. However the author does portray combat vividly as the reader can feel every shot and hit of the tank's cannon. Similarly I enjoyed how tense these moments were. It's because of the realistic style that the battles shine and are great to read.
My only criticism is that I feel the story jumps around sometimes and that the ending was somewhat confusing. Mainly I'm talking about the last chapter which I still don't really understand that well. However I will note that I read this while on a road trip so my focus wasn't entirely on the story.
I hope the author's next work keep this same style although with some things better ironed out. Overall this story is a real hidden gem that more people should read especially if you enjoy military stories. I'll be eagerly waiting to see if the author writes another story.

A great military story that's simple to pick up. The story focused on four characters, the tank crews, as they endure the battlefield. Author decently depicted the stressful experience of being a tank crew--like being knocked back by the shockwave of the gun when they fire, or the thought that they would be minced meat when hit--which is overlooked anywhere else. Character interaction is exactly what soldiers who've seen hell would say. Any military nerd have no excuse to not read this.
