- Eric VanderlipRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The From Thief to Dragon Rider is the story of Razam Kazarim, the Crimson Thorn, a thief burdened by morals who accidentally bonds with a powerful dragon, earning the ire of a powerful dark sorcerer.
Style: The perspective shifts are smooth. Dialogue is natural. Pacing is brisk and engaging. Descriptions are both detailed and succinct (a sign of great writing). No complains.
Story: This is an event-driven story which flows naturally and creates great buildup. The first-rate worldbuilding is revealed gradually through satisfying, organically-woven exposition. The mystery concerning the dragon Vrarog and looming threat of Haeed drives the narrative forwards nicely.
My only small gripe is with a shallow arrow wound that never gets mentioned again. Not deducting points for this nitpick.
Grammar: Near perfect. My need to edit for grammar reasons went unfulfilled.
Character: A stellar cast of vibrant characters. Razam makes a fantastic scoudrel-with-a-heart-of-gold protagonist. Even secondary characters like the warrior-maiden Fara and the dragon Vrarog have their own strong, engaging personalities. Best is the capable menace of the sorcerer Haeed. I do love me a good villain.
Conclusion: I highly recommend From Thief to Dragon Rider because of the wonderful protagonist and excellent storytelling. You'll soon find yourself flying through the story, relentlessly clicking "next chapter" to find out what happens next. It's an effortless, addicting read. - KittyJinglesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Join a talented rogue (don't call him a thief) on an action filled adventure. I liked the strong sense of the character from the start, it's not some bland generic hero or dark backstory with no personality. He's brash and audacious. There's entertaining dialogue and distinct voices and a fantasy world that feels foreign, not a DnD game but more Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves. Grammar errors occur in funny ways that make me think it's maybe a regional thing? It's fun, read it

This kind of fantasy is not really my thing. But the author for sure made it super interesting to read and honestly I had some fun. Personally didn't see a lot to critique a few spelling errors and the like here and there but that can be buffed out real quick. Razam immediately had instant charisma he will be the star of the show that's for sure. I will need to read farther to understand how well the world building is but honestly give this story a read it definitely is fun and very well written.
