Description

"All right, boys and girls, quit sucking your ma's teats. It's high time we bloody earn our paychecks!"

Born in times of turmoil, orphaned at a young age, and raised amongst rowdy sellswords, young Reinhardt Edelstein joined the mercenary trade as well when he grew up.

When misfortune finally caught up with them, and the mercenary company he had been part of fell into an ambush and was decimated, he survived by chance, along  with a few others.

Then he found the baton of responsibility passed on to his hand, as the adopted nephew of the late captain.

Stuck behind enemy lines, with only the tattered remnants of the once proud company around him, he strived to do his best, to rebuild the company to its former glory... Should they survive the current conflict.

Would he succeed in etching his name in the annals of history? Or would he end up as a mere footnote instead?

Only time will tell…

Chapters will range from 1-2k words, scheduled for release every day from Monday to Friday.

This is a good story, updated very regularly.
No real issues with grammer, maybe the odd favourite word, but certainly no deal breakers.
This is an Avitue story though - you can expect a range of gruesome deaths happening to various characters, usually to those who are on the wrong side, so not for the faint of heart st timee.

Anyone with grit, and time spent on royal roads knows there are gems in 4 star stories that have been downgraded due to ratings of people who didn't read the synopsis, or those who lack understanding of what makes a good novel.
    This is one of them.
    It's a mercenary tale, nonhuman mc/ human.
Gore and death, but military and with well fleshed out characters.
It's good. Wish there was a map because I'm kinda lost on where anyone is at, wish there was a character list too, because there are some good characters but they're aplenty here...
    Thanks for the story

True to the other stories that take place in the world Avitue has created, Free Lances keeps the ball going with solid storytelling and great characters.
The style itself in the first few chapters do a good job setting the screne and structuring things in a way that keeps the story moving and the audience excited to read what happens next. Pacing is well done, and threads are beginning to appear to make us want to follow them.
Grammar is basically a non-issue at this point. Sentrence structure flows well, syntax isn't awkward, and there were no punctuation issues or typos that took me out of the story at any point.
The story kicks off strongly, putting the readers in a situation with the main character that instantly hooks our attention, and leaves us wanting more. Pair that with a well established world that Avitue has used with their other fictions, and that leaves us with the potential for another well rounded and thought out plot to look forward to.
Reinhardt is a character that hits a lot of classic tropes in fiction, but that does not take away from them. Avitue writes them in such a way that leaves them intriguing and electric, rather than another simple cardboard cutout stereotype.
Overall, the start of Free Lances leaves a lot to be wanted, but only in positive ways. Instead of wanting different, you just want more to read. I won't be startled if this is the fiction that truly takes off on RR or patreon. And the currently 25 bonus patron chapters seems like an amazing score.

Looking forward to reading more of this and hey,the releases are coming constantly.
The prologue established the setting. We see the characters feel. We get small breadcrumbs of worldbuilding.
    Words for the word gods.
Orcs being very tribe only gang, barely leaving their tribes
Mc is methodical and tries to lead at his best even in his situation.
Characters matter so far,and i hope the company grows and encompasses more interesting characters along the way that grow realistically.
Looking forward to see the world builiding, since we got different races, and magic i assume.
Grammar is fine, small typos here and there that Avitue keeps coming back and makes  corrections, which is a great sign for anyone starting to read this. Really puts emphasis on him caring.
Haven't had any problem with the style, easy to understand, dialogue feels readable, author clearly knows to write.
Hoping this helps <3. Keep doing what you do best Avitue.
And hey,he even got a patron with 50 whole chapes ahead for a relatively small price,so if u binge and decide to,you can support him.
Somehow still not at 200 words, man this writing shtik is hard. It makes me so long to write a barely passable review, but this guy can put out 5 chapters a week. That's impressive.

If you wan tto find some wholesome story, then you should turn around for here be blood and terror.
The story is masterfully written and has, as far as I could see, no grammatical errors and read wonderfully fluid.
Its a real nailbiter and I had to read it all in one sitting.
The characters are all written wonderfully and well-rounded. The interacrions with one another do not seem stilted nor overly unrealistic
I can only recommend this story to everyone that can handle gruesome stuff, like people throwing themselves into shieldwalls to buy others a chance and getting cleaved in half for example!

When this story starts off. The first two/three chapters throw you into the action head first and it takes a moment to get your feet underneath you. Which is why there is a 4/5 average score when all the reviews are 5/5 as people are reviewing without giving it a fair shake. So let's be clear, this is a good story, it is a very fleshed out world with interesting combat and story. I would recommended anybody who's tired of LITRPG tropes and wants a good grim action/coming into one's own story that doesn't pull punches.

This is the down in the muck kind of story I've been longing for. This is the kind of tactical strategic tale I've been yearning to read. Do you like violence? Do you like medieval warfare? Do you like high fantasy? Do you enjoy wargaming? This story will scratch your itch. The author has multiple other fictions I'm now reading simply because the world fascinates and the prose is enjoyably readable without being cookie-cutter. Vocabulary and diction choice varies from character to character dependent upon background and personality, to the point where a reader is never confused on who said what words of dialogue which is a rare thing.
Well done, Avitue. I'm looking forward to more, and hopefully the growth of the Free Lances until they're a force to reckoned with! Hopefully you don't kill too many beloved characters along the way 😉

This story is definitely a recent favorite for me. The writing is good, the story makes sense, and the universe is intriguing. I won't go into the summary much because the author's hits on all main points. Overall,  I've really enjoyed the story and look forward to seeing where it goes.

Style: The story's written in third person and is really well done. It helps to establish a sense of "neutrality." As a reader, I was able to pick and choose my own favorite characters and who to side with. The POV is consistent and it's easy to keep track of who is talking and doing what.
Grammar: From what I read, flawless. Didn't notice any errors or mistakes during my time reading. Sentences are simple, but in a good way. They're easy to digest and follow while getting straight to the point.
Story: Definitely for those that like fantasy battles. A whole lot of talk of tactics and strategies while being filled with violent and action-packed fights. The author doesn't pull any punches when it comes to writing action scenes, so expect to see some brutal descriptions. From what I've read, the deeper lore is being introduced at the author's pace rather than be fully dumped at once, so you'll be rewarded for sticking with the story.
Character: Characters fit their role in the story well. A lot of the archetypes you'd expect in this kind of story are here, and they all have their own distinct voice and personality. They help keep the overall narrative cohesive and together.

I must preface this with a disclaimer: I am a huge fan of the two other stories in this universe/setting and am a friend of the Author. Some people could see this as biased in some ways, and as such I encourage you to read and make your own decisions. I also tend to prefer to read, and write (though with more details/imagery) in similar genres and tropes in fantasy.
That being said, I found this story a wonderful continuation into this setting and timeline of series.
Each book that takes place in this world has developed and shown Avitue's growth as a writer. The first book was about showing the world in his mind to the people, along with learning how to write and share details. As such it was very much a slice of life low-stakes adventure. The second book was Avitue's experimentation with character development and growth, along with romance. Even within Unliving, you can tell the improvement. This story however is all about the action, fighting, progression (of mercenary faction and individuals) and more.
With every new book, Avitue is experimenting and improving his skills and I, as a fellow writer, am in awe of that.
With that out of the way, let me get more to the nitty gritty of the review.
Within the first handful of chapters, I was enthralled by the struggle and the situation. The characters are wonderful and feel alive (something that has improved with every chapter of his stories), and there is consistent storytelling that never feels like it's going to pull out some kind of deus ex machina moment from it's read end. The pacing is well done to me, but then again I prefer to read and write more slow paced things.
Avitue's skill with grammar has improved with every new book to the point there is nothing that breaks my immersion of the story.
Overall, this is an amazing story. It shows off all of Avitue's growing skills as an author. If he improves so much with every book, I wonder what the future ones will be like?
