- SyncbookRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Alright! I will break my review down from point to point (please note I am making my review base upon my opinion and also after seeing reviews written by other on this series)
Style
Well, that hacking secne getting converted into a daamm intense hacking scene, is something to appreciate, that speech and character of old man was delivered pretty nicely. But, this series is more focused on the world inside the mc's head, which represents his introverted nature quite well, but a bit more details about external world would help getting a grip over the world building of the story.
Story
Well, no flaws here, the story of this series have taken a quite good turns can't wait to see what happens next, how will he fight back?
Characters
Only flaw here, their is no description about how characters looks I mean for Vyom, Ayaan and Aaravi. I mean her looks were disclosed, but that was just in recent chapter (ch 5) but still no clues about Ayaan and Vyom. Rest the dialogues, dynamics and relationship between them are shown quite beautifully.
Grammer
Well, this is something author should work on, their are some awkward phrases sometimes in between the story.
Rest to sum it up : It's a gem, in rough. - SgaireRookilyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Although I couldn't follow along with the nuances of some of the computer language, the story manages to explain every relevant detail and maintain the hacking-themed psychological horror it promised in the first chapter.
It's well-written and has interesting stylistic choices that, while in any other story might be irritation, come off as a great part of the narrative here. Punctuating specific lines and pulling along the story like embedded code.
A great read! - Ellen TaylorRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This world was fascinating to read. There was a lot of worldbuilding and nail biting moments. I'll go through each section and give my reasonings.
Grammar is always an easy one. I'm not really a stickler for grammar. I didn't see any mistakes. As long as it didn't pull me from the story, I give five stars. As far as I can tell, the author did a great job grammar wise.
The style is unique. I noticed every so often there would be bolded or italicized sentences for reasons. It was never jarring, and overall I could follow the story well enough.
The story was fantastic. A story about Vyom who was dissatisfied with the world and sent out a message. Then he was quickly, and I mean quickly thrown in completely over his head. There was even some hacking in this story that, even though I didn't understand the code, it was enough that I was on the edge of my seat.
The character of Vyom I found I was quickly rooting for him. I'm not sure what's going to happen to the poor guy after what I just read, but I am most curious to find out.
Overall, this is a great read! - FallenMoon3Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'll be honest, I didn't see anything impressive in the first two chapters, but the fourth chapter was one of the best I've read in a long time.
As for the action, somehow the author managed to turn a hacking scene into something exciting like a fight lol.
The first two chapters were a bit too slow, and the next two might have been a bit too fast. So it might be good to work on the pacing a bit more.
I found some events a bit strange and abrupt, I almost thought there was magic in this world. Maybe there's an explanation in the plot for these events. Or maybe it's better to work on the details and the sequence of events more.
For some reason I felt like I was watching Matrix.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book, I hope the author continues until the end, I highly recommend this book.
I intend to continue reading. - JTNubsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0To be perfectly honest, as I read this story I was perfectly well prepared to lambast it to pieces in this review, up until the fourth chapter. How my opinion changed.
The initial three chapters of the story are saccharine, read like a power fantasy, and are frankly poorly paced. Events fly past each other, the characters introduce themselves by discussing their pasts as if either character would not know about these events that certainly happened to themselves, and the main character seems painfully overpowered. Characters are barely described, and very few details about the setting are given.
And then all of a sudden, the author seems to hit their stride in the middle of the fourth chapter. All of a sudden, the story transforms into this gripping and heartfelt narrative of loss, heartbreak, manipulation, deception, and growth. The prose itself seems to grow more powerful, more evocative, more rich, more invigorating. I found myself following along to sentences that flowed smoothly, painted a descriptive picture, and easily rode from one idea to the next, displaying masterful control of the language. The plot became enthralling and intriguing, gripping me while leaving me asking questions at every turn.
The story is still in its infancy at time of writing, and I encourage all who read this review to struggle through the first three chapters, and to enjoy the story from the fourth chapter onwards. - DannisWritesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I will update this when I read more. After the first two chapters, I really like the MC and am looking forward to reading more. The plot so far is holding my attention. The inciting event has me wanting to find out what comes next. I had to look hard and long for a story without graphic violence, profanity and sex, which I won't read. Thanks for this!
- wigochickRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5When I first started reading Fracture, I wasn't sure what I was getting into since this isn't in the usual style or genre that I enjoy reading. However, I quicky found myself engrossed in the story. The plot moves really fast and is genuinely thrilling, with something significant or shocking happening in every chapter, teasing you to read onward. There's one particular chapter that really packs a punch and I was impressed at how the writer pulled it off.
The main character, though a bit too young and immature-seeming for my personal taste, is written well enough to make it easy to follow his focused POV. His thoughts and emotions are clearly conveyed, almost making you feel as if you've stepped into his shoes, like you're playing his character in a video game. The writing and story is very cinematic, cleanly and efficiently written, and packed with action. In fact, even if I have some reservations about continuing to read this as a book, if this were a movie or a game I would be totally into it. I'd also like to give kudos to the writer for being able to describe what to me seems like a relatively realistic scene of hacking/bug fixing/computer programming. It's way more believable than many scenes of the type that you could read in recent bestsellers or see in blockbuster movies.
So even if the story isn't personally something I would seek out to read, I'm glad to have started it because it shows a lot of promise. Looking forward to more from this writer and to the eventual movie or TV adaptation! - Elijah KingRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Overall:
I really did enjoy the concept behind this new web series. It is a mix of dystopia, hacking, and personal stakes that honestly kept me engaged throughout. Vyom's journey and his interactions with other characters like Aaravi and Ayaan kept me invested. That said there is room for improvement with pacing and grammar but that is definitely something that can be improved on by the author as he continues to work on it.
Style:
The writing is actually pretty straight forward and easy to follow which I appreciate. There are action scenes, like when Vyom is hacking, that are well written and deserve praise in how they were executed! That said, the main issues here are the transitions between scenes which did feel a bit abrupt and did pull me out of the story unfortunately. Pacing is also a bit of an issue as sometimes things in the plot felt pretty rushed. If the author spends some time fixing these moments I think the story could really improve over the gem in the rough that it is right now.
Story:
The story is solid. The premise of a world where tech has turned against humanity is something I could honestly see happening right now in real life. (Elon Musk I'm looking at you bro) The stakes are definitely high from the start which kept me reading! I did enjoy the twists the author put into it as well! Something that can be improved on here just a bit is building more context or background into the world and the motivations behind the characters though. I think expanding on these areas could actually really help with making it more immersive overall.
Characters:
Vyom is a well-developed character, and I enjoyed following his journey. His interactions with Aaravi and Ayaan were believable and added depth to the story. I personally really like this character and found that he was the main reason I wanted to keep on reading what would happen next.
Grammar:
Okay, so overall the grammar is decent. There are some errors and awkward phrasing that could use some polish - Regolith42Royal Road★★★★ 4.0Style: The style mostly works, especially once the work starts wading into the darker elements of the story. In the first few chapters it was a bit stilted and flat, but past the fourth chapter it becomes better than the beginning.
Grammar: It was good, nothing that took me out while I was reading so that's five stars for me.
Story: It was a strange experience reading along this story for me. On one hand, I somewhat understood everything going on in each individual scene and the basic progression of events. But taken all together it felt like there's strange gaps. I especially felt that the transition from the 'inciting incident' with the criminals and the transition to the academy was sudden and odd especially.
I actually thought the whole story was supposed to be a sort of surrealist dream like sequence the whole time up until the transition to the academy where I realized that it was actually all supposed to be real. There's little gaps of information in the text and strange things that come from nowhere that give it that strange sense of unreality in the story as you go through that never quite goes away the whole time. The somewhat random bolding of text also helps this idea as well.
I think the purpose was to create a divide between the more surreal computer/hacking world versus the normal more grounded world that our MC starts out in. But it just didn't have that effect on me. Especially because it goes from 0 to 100 as soon as he encounters the criminals with no gradient inbetween.
I would have liked either a larger moment from our MC of 'This is all so horrible, life was never like this before.' after the big shocking confrontation with the criminals. Or more likely based on what is revealed in latter chapters, 'Man, life's always sucked. Why's this always got to happen to me?'
Felt like we didn't really get to see MC's reaction to the situation itself and the criminals rather than specifically grieving over what he lost when he encountered them.
Finally, l - MVRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I do enjoy reading it, tension build by author is pretty good as per my opinion, he did a great job blending joy and emotional states too, atleast I think so you opinion might differ but, you can agree this story do have potential for future plots. So in one word I did Enjoy!
