Description

It has been twenty-three years since the end of the Reclamation Wars when Lords Jackson Bright and Kaedin Varus united the 21 human nations. The BrightKing now rules comfortably on the Saphire Seat. Humanity is in a time of peace and prosperity not seen since the days of the Sun King. The wheels of industry and technology churn at an unprecedented rate. But not all is well in the Empire of Man. In the East, the Elves have started to reclaim their old fortresses and lands. In the South, huge Orc Warbands ravage cities and terrorize the population. The North is plagued by the constant threat of invasion by the Krieg. Internally, unrest has started to brew as orphaned sons and daughters of disgraced nobles have returned.

At the heart of the Empire is the Battle Academy known as Leviathan, founded even before the last campaigns and battles were fought in the hopes of unifying the young nobility. This year, Ryze Varus has decided it was time to leave the Varus fief and join the Academy.

Style:  This is a Fantasy/Adventure tale set in first person PoV.  The first chapter is quite long, but does not become boring.  Suitable for teenagers and up.  Writing style is generally clear and gets the point across.  Recommended for fantasy fans and folks that enjoyed good old fantasy adventure classics.
Story: Engaging plot and decently quick pace.  The MC does not dawdle about appreciably, but nor does he rush into the dragon's den in his underclothes without a weapon.  The story has definite direction to it.
Grammar: Typos and grammar errors are present and show up with some regularity.  The author has been notified of possible errors and this may well have been fixed by the time this review is read.  Do not let such things stop you if you love a good tale of adventure!  Give it a shot.
Character:  The MC is a young man on the path to adulthood.  He shows some of the callowness of youth and rough edges, which is good for the start of the story.  Little character growth happens in the first chapter, but it still just that- the first chapter.
The MC at first appears slightly overpowered as we enter the story.  Later on he meets some challenges.  For the author this may prove difficult if the MC grows too powerful too quickly.  Later in the story gives some relief from this worry, but it will always exist for the heroes.
Conclusion: Read it, if you like a good adventure tale.  As is, this could be the start of a classic bildungsroman, wherein the adventures the lad has cause him to grow and mature psychologically and socially as well as in combat prowess.
