Description
Millions of years in the future, humanity has colonized the galaxy. Sean has grown up with only rumors of the Immortals, legendary figures known for their great feats and brutal slaughters. But as Sean is about to die an unjust death, the mysterious entity known Shadow appears, bestowing upon him the gift of Immortality. Now, Sean is one of the legends spoken of in whispers, an Immortal, a Plaguebringer, a monster.Saved by a mysterious Immortal and whisked away from his home planet, Sean must now find his place in a galaxy where death is no longer a threat to him. Navigating the complex society of Immortals, he grapples with his beliefs and the prospect of an endless road of his life ahead, intertwined with the lives of other Immortals, stretching into eternity while he traverses across the galaxy.Disclaimer: Some romantic elements included for certain segments, but the overall story is not a romance. There is some gore and violence right from the beginning chapters if that is something that you are sensitive to.
Time travel elements won't come into play until Part 5 and later in the story.
When I say these characters are Immortal, I mean it. Immortal characters can not be killed by any method, gimmick, or special ability. They are unageing and will exist forever after they become an Immortal. Without exception. And yes, I've already thought about what happens if you try to throw them in a black hole. You'll just have to read the story to figure out the answer as to what happens!

- Blue NoonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall: this is an interesting and well-thought out science-fiction story. When a young man suddenly finds himself immortal after having to endure a betrayal and torturous journey, he is found by a woman who is just like him.
Story: There are some nice plot threads set up here that I'd be interested to see how they pan out, such as the Foundation, the Shadow, and the Plaguebringers. I enjoyed the concept of what Foundation of All is, and the deeper mystery that seems to be brewing there, and found myself theorising through Chapter 7 and 8. I found myself wanting to consult a wiki as a I read to learn more lore about the Foundation, so that is a good sign. I found myself more invested in Emily's journey than the MC Sean's at this point which is why the character score is as it is a little lower.
Character: So far, I feel Sean as the MC is only a vessel for us to experience Emily's story. She is a very mysterious and engaging character and I found myself wanting to find a lot more out about her. By contrast, we know relatively little about Sean so far and I became less interested in him the more we knew about Emily.
A big moment that I felt could have delivered more emotional impact was if we experienced Sean's revenge against his and his parents' killers through Sean himself. However, it was done second hand via Emily, with Sean elsewhere. I think this was a missed opportunity to delve more into Sean's psyche and his relationship with his parents and the other characters at the village. But I'm sure opportunities for that will come later.
Grammar score: no complaints here. I noticed one or two misplaced words across the entire segment read so far. All good.
Style: I think style is very much subjective in terms what we enjoy reading. I like the third-person POV. It helps especially as we flip between Sean and Emily and briefly the Plaguebringer. My only gripe here is I found some of the sentences very long, which made some sections a harder to follow. But I acknowled - Cynthia DawnRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall: this is quite an interesting story as it follows a man recently made immortal and meets a mysterious woman who introduces him to a new way of living and even a new game he’s become deeply intrigued by. There’s a lot of questions surrounding the woman as the story unfolds, and that just adds to the excitement of wanting to read on.
Style: this is well written story that’s easy to follow and slips back and forth between the main character and the secondary as needed. The pacing is good and writing voice is clear and crisp.
Story: is fast paced and starts with a lot of action, but slows down a little and is more explorative when the characters are in the holodeck game. There seems to be several story arcs here with one in the “real” world and one playing out in the game Foundation Of All, which is quite intriguing. And the world building and technology in this book is quite impressive. I just want to read to find out more about this awesome universe the author has created!
Grammar: so far text seems clean and clear for the most part. I’ve only stumbled across a few issues that were very minor.
Character: there’s some great character building here with the main character, but especially Emily. The woman is clearly haunted by her past and she becomes moody and withdrawn at the drop of a hat. There’s a lot boiling there to come exploding out later, and the author has done a great job of building that up. - Jaha RiderRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A boy dies and then starts living. Then he chooses to game for a hundred hours straight. How is that not relatable?
Anyway, I really like this story. It’s well written, with barely any grammar or punctuation errors, which definitely don’t take away from the readability. The characters are fine so far and the story is intriguing.
Starting off, when it comes to style, I think it’s good. Easy to read, flows and isn’t too comedic considering the amount of gore in the beginning. Consistent and I wouldn’t change a thing.
The characters are scarce so far, considering we got the MC and another important figure. The dialog between them is nice and feels natural. What did slightly tip me off when I read through the story was the character that saves MC in the beginning. She is VERY old and acts strangely panicky and bashful at times. Maybe it has something to do with mental regeneration mentioned in the story, but I found her reactions a bit too strong now and then. Perhaps there’s a reason for it?
Sean - the MC - on the other hand is well-balanced. He doesn’t scream, cry and is mostly just slightly depressed from what I was imagining. I think of him as a quiet boy with sad eyes. No surprise there considering his past. He likes to escape into a game world even when he finds out he is an immortal being. Well, you’d think that’d be strange, but it’s done nicely enough in the story, considering that the game he plays has a bit of a deeper and hidden meaning.
As to the story itself, I found the world crafted by the author to be very intriguing. The slow and cautious reveal of certain aspects of the governing force for example is well done. The image we get when Sean becomes an immortal was definitely powerful enough to hook me into reading more. I’m curious and if that’s the case, then it deserves recognition.
Another aspect of the story is the game that Sean plays. I think it adds an extra layer to the action-packed world that our MC will surely experience in the next chapters. - LirikaRinaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style: Overall, I like the story’s style. The third-person narration effectively allows for switching between characters to show us key events. The only thing I would note is that some sentences might seem lengthy and complex in structure, making them a bit harder to follow. But, of course, this is a matter of personal preference and taste.
Story: The story progresses at a good, brisk pace, though there were a few moments where I felt it slowed down slightly.
For example, the scene of resistance against the swarm at the beginning seemed a bit drawn out to me. Perhaps the author wanted to convey the utter hopelessness and despair of the struggle, but I think the story would benefit if this segment were shortened, as it affects the pacing.
I enjoyed how the characters are introduced throughout the story, and how we gradually get to know them, but more on that later. The story is intriguing and gives the sense that the author has put significant effort into developing the world and its rules.
Grammar: I didn’t notice any issues, but to be fair, I’m not a native English speaker, so my assessment might not be entirely objective.
Character: I like the characters in this story, especially Emily. It might seem unusual, but for me, Emily, despite her age, feels like a more vivid and lively character than the main protagonist. I find myself wanting to learn more and more about her, and she’s fascinating to follow. Sean, on the other hand, seems like a good guy who hasn’t yet fully realized or understood who he has become. He is our main guide through story and together with him we figure out who the Immortals are.
Also, this might seem strange to some, but I was impressed by the antagonist, a Plaguebringer, due to a small segment where the narrative was from his perspective. At that moment, I got the impression that he isn’t just an ordinary fanatic. He’s craftier and smarter than he initially appeared. But we’ll see what happens next.
Overall: The story is intriguing and mak - WinterwispRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall, this is story with a lot of potential. The conflicts foreshadowed are interesting, and the lore feels well-thought out. The writing is solid, and the characters are believable. All in all, good work.
We meet Sean, the MC as he works on maintenance around his village. There are some personal conflicts with others in the village that lands him in a deadly situation, which leads to him discovering that he is an immortal. He meets another immortal, Emily, and together they figure out why he and his family was led to die. We are then given a sneak-peak into the deadly politics between immortals, and a chase from enemies of Emily's. After a narrow escape, Sean has time to learn the game Foundations for All from Emily, as it takes months to travel the cosmos.
I'm going to get a bit technical in my review of the different elements of the story. I want to emphasize that my rating is still high, but I'm going to be pointing out several areas of improvement.
Style: I think the style is solid and consistent, worthy of the rating, even if there are some choices I personally dislike. The introduction of our MC and the foreshadowing done is good, but the way some chapters are structured makes me loose all the tension built up. Example of this in the spoiler.
In the narrow escape, fleeing an old enemy of Emily's, the chapter is structured so that we have Emily's POV telling Sean to delay the opponent as much as possible so that she can make an escape. We are then told that Sean does so in the background, while Emily manages to pull off the escape. Next chapter, we are back in Sean's POV, talking to the enemy, and supposed to delay him, when I already know that is achieved from the previous chapter. This should be a moment where I'm on the edge of my seat, but because of the structure, I'm not.
Story: The story has a lot of interesting concepts and ideas that I look forward to being explored more, like what the Shadow is, and what immortals are. The game Foundations for All
