Forging the Empire

“Good,” the sprite encouraged. “Now, draw that energy into your core and release it. Imagine the spell forming as you do.”

Rowan focused, channeling the energy. He conjured the image of a fireball—a burst of flame that could light his path and defend against the wolf. As he envisioned it, he extended his hand forward, envisioning the energy pooling in his palm.

With a sudden rush, a small flame ignited, flickering to life above his palm. Rowan opened his eyes, astonished. “I did it!”

“Yes, but can you control it?” the sprite challenged, tilting its head. “Try to make it larger, but be careful. The Ether is powerful.”

Focusing again, Rowan poured more energy into the fireball. It expanded, growing hotter and brighter, but as it did, he felt a surge of heat that almost overwhelmed him. He quickly reigned it back in, adjusting the energy flow until he found a balance. The flame stabilized, radiating warmth without burning him.

“Perfect!” the sprite cheered. “Now, aim it! Show me what you can do.”
