Folly of the Boundless [A Litrpg, Progression Fantasy]

Description

He was given the choice between a normal life, or a chance to become one of the premier existences of the multiverse. His response? “Huh. Will it make me coin? Because if not then, honestly, why bother?”

The system is failing. Has been for a while now. Poor upkeep and negligent oversight leading to the emergence of aberrations unbound by the great system and it’s stringent regulations. Potentially system breaking entities that may very well predate the grand architecture itself.

Fen’Reale, these so called “fate-touched,” whose natural born attributes far exceed the realm of mere mortals. A choice few surpassing even that of gods.

Beings whose natural talent alone have seen them rise to the high seated positions of autarch and oligarchy, divine emperors among lowly immortals, in a fraction of the time it should have taken.

Hated and feared in equal measure, culled from birth as a matter of course, who in their right mind would ever suspect such a preeminent figure from myth and legend to be born on a no-name planet at the back end of nowhere?

Jun certainly hadn’t, and he was one of them. Although, even if he had, he likely wouldn’t have cared one way or another. After all, he wasn’t a bloody cultivator!

Leave all that playacting to the punch drunk enthusiasts out there. Him, on the other hand? Well, he had a business to run, not to mention a 5 o’clock he was already running late for.

When I first read the synopsis, I knew this was a story I wanted to try out, and boy, could I not be happier I did. This author has earned every single star I could possibly give. I would honestly put this on par with the cradle series, if not better, and I could not smash the favorite button fast enough.
The story's style is up there with the best of them. They have perfected a style of writing we all know and love.
The story in the first chapter is fantastic. You clearly see the author's full vision without any interpretation. It is well-worded and well-planned, and exactly what I want from an LITRPG.
The grammar is immaculate and very well-edited. It is full of unique descriptive verbiage that is incredibly difficult to use properly, and they pulled it off well. There are some points where there is some over-explaining, but with the author's writing style, it’s almost needed to get the full picture of the story.
The characters are well-developed even early on in the story. The main character has depth, and I look forward to seeing it grow even further.
Overall, I love this story already, and if it keeps the pace that has already been established, I will gladly buy a physical copy when it becomes available. Outstanding work here.

Do yourself a favor, and read this story. It is exceptionally written, beautifully balanced, and enticingly deep.
    Style:
The author's writing style is consistent, clear, and smart. There's a lovely balance in the way scenes and dialogue are written, and the MC's internal thoughts are additive to the experience. The writing simply is great, neither over-the-top nor oversimplified.
    Story:
I've read through a great deal of content in a fairly short time - and it doesn't feel like it. The pacing and action in this story, the development and exposition are all set up expertly well and make you lose track of yourself within the writing. It makes you care about what's happening, and the overarching threads are so vivid, present, and enticing. High marks.
    Grammar:
I've consumed the majority of chapters so far with TTS, and I was so surprised by the lack of errors that I went back and re-read some stuff I'd already listened to. Some of the best technical accuracy out of any of the stories here.
    Characters:
I want Jun to live his merchant dreams. I crave to know more about his mother, his father, and Ivory. Sure, some characters are on-the-nose tropey, but damn this story's residents pull me in and make me care. Jun had me in the first chapter with his thespian antics to survive abuse. Every new person we're introduced to has felt substantial, and I'm looking forward to exploring them all more.

This is a pretty easy read. A pretty familiar story; and that's enjoyable. The main character is a mistreated son in a cultivating family and he eventually finds that he has some sort of "gold-finger" that allows him to start rising in the ranks. The twist this story throws into it is that the main character really doesn't want to cultivate or gain strength, he just wants to live an uncomplicated life where he makes money. So, it leads to fun drama while he will be OP but kind of unwilling to use it.
Style - The style feels dynamic and fun. The word choice is superb, and there's only a few moments where it is moving so quickly that it is hard to keep up. I enjoy this kind of witty inner monologue 3rd person POV and I think it makes the story enjoyable.
Story - It is exactly what the blurb says it will be. I am excited to see what the story looks like later, because right now I don't see what the general structure will look like, but it is most certainly interesting.
Grammar - There are no big errors. Just a few moments where dialogue is difficult to keep up with. Never a big deal though in my opinion.
Character - It is early days for the characters, so it is tough to se development or who the MC is deeply. But he fits the general tropes of mistreated young cultivator, except with the new addition of being a merchant who wants to make money and doesn't care for power. Also he's just a fun guy.
All in all, it's a pretty fun story that's definitely worth the read.

    Folly away!
This story is a bit different from the norm in the most refreshing way possible. From the title alone one could already begin to expect something slightly different from the stories people tend to see on royal road. The author’s style draws you in immediately with a beautiful blend of sarcasm, humor, ‘bad’ things happening, and action!
The main character, Jun, is super easy to root for, and his journey is full of entertaining twists. He is one of the main reasons this story  is so different. He kinda wants to avoid the whole cultivation thing altogether and just make some money, which adds a refreshing twist to the usual trope. The supporting characters, like the alabaster creature and Cedric, bring their own unique personalities to the mix, making the interactions fun and dynamic. It’s got that "unwilling hero" vibe, which I think adds some fun drama and tension to the plot.
I should probably take a note out of the Authors playbook and get my grammar standards up to par! There are almost 0 errors in the book that I can find thus far, and the few tiny ones you are so minimal that they are barely noticeable. It’s smooth and easy to read throughout.
All in all this is a great book, and please do give it a read, you won’t regret it!

As other reviewers have undoubtably said, one of the best aspects of this story is its grammar and style. I have to praise the author for incorporating beautiful words and descriptions in a way such that the reader immediately understands them from context, which is something quite uncommon for a web-novel.
I have really been enjoying the story, which, despite being slightly dragged, is engaging and fun throughout. Now, for the individual categories:
Style: Again, I absolutely love the way this story was written! However, one aspect of the author's writing style which is becoming a little cumbersome are the POV shifts. However, I do not feel that these POV shifts detract from the experience too much, and I am aware that other readers have different opinions regarding them!
Story: I absolutely devoured this story (I think it took me 2 days to read from the first chapter to today's one)! The plot is extremely engaging and keeps the reader waiting to see what will happen next. However, there are certain issues: the plot is slightly difficult to follow/understand at times, and, while I do recognize the author's reasons to write this way, it is possible that certain readers might be turned away because they do not immediately understand what just happened at certain moments. Spoiler:
The only other critique regarding story that I have is, at the time of this review being written, the story has branched off from the main plot almost three or four times, with what were the primary conflicts being completely ignored for tens of chapters at this point (with hardly  a reference to them, even). Despite this, I feel that each of the subplots is exciting and engaging enough that I cannot really complain!
Character: Without getting into too much detail, on the whole, I love the main characters! They are well written and feel real.
Grammar: No issues that I noticed while reading!
On the whole, I highly recommend picking up this story! Thanks!

My favorite part of this book is the language. I'm such a sucker for it. Give me a book that makes me savor the words, even read it aloud to myself, and I'm in. And the author has it in spades. There's so much personality. So much cadence. So many hilarious thoughts that are expressed by clever wording and grammar. Rant incoming. English teachers always talk about voice. I think voice is just brilliant grammar that gets a reader to read something in the way the author wants it read. And that's what's happening with Folly of the Boundless. Voice.
The characters are great. Jun is my favorite. As mentioned above, he has a lot of personality. In a good way. He makes action scenes fun and often silly. It's great to experience fights and challenges from his point of view. I also love that there's a realness to him, a past that haunts him that he grapples with as he interacts with his fantasy world.
Like any LitRPG fan, I really enjoy cultivation and figuring out how it works and how characters will interact with it. With Folly you'll get everything you want from that. Well described, with ways for the characters to interact with the cultivation that give them advantages. With a broken system that leaves a lot of mystery that we will only discover after digging in and learning about it with the characters.
Overall, this story is a gem and you shouldn't hesitate to get into it. And savor every word along the way. Maybe even read slower than you otherwise would have, because the language is half the gift that the author is giving us. Top notch.

Story:  The Best! This is the Greatest story ever! I won't spoil anything; you need to read it yourself! Even if some ungodly, unimaginable stroke of brain-muddled fever comes over you and you aren't in love with the story by the first chapter. I implore you Keep reading!
Style: I can not even begin to explain the immaculate writing style of BlueShear. They use words I've never heard of, yet in such a way that I can immediately understand everyone. The stylistic wording is beyond godly, it matches so well with the tone and setting!
Grammar: BlueShear has polished the grammar so well that it shines brighter than the sun.
Character: MC - I'll be honest: while I don't agree with his stance on cultivation, or lack thereof. He is so well written that I feel as if I'm standing inside the story with him.
But the Real MC (not really, just my favorite character EVER!!) only appears a few chapters in. She is soooo adorable!!
Antagonists - Detestable sort, the lot of them! As the best Antagonists are. Of the few I've been privy to, I wish only the worst of excruciating deaths upon them.
I was six words short... I Love This Story So Freaking Much!!!

I gotta admit, as someone who doesn't speak English as their first language, I sometimes find myself going "wait, what does that word mean?" or "how do you even pronounce that?" XD But you know what? That doesn't stop me from enjoying the heck out of this story!
The action scenes are honestly my favorite part. Like that part where Jun's stepbrothers thought it was a good idea to fight those huge spirit beasts? I was literally on the edge of my seat! And the way the author writes these scenes - mixing the intense action with Jun's sarcastic thoughts - just makes them so much fun to read.
Speaking of Jun, I love how the author wrote his character. He's not your typical cultivation novel protagonist who's all about getting stronger. Nope, this guy's thinking about profit margins while everyone else is throwing spirit techniques around! The way he handles situations is just phenomenal - always looking for an angle, always trying to turn things to his advantage.
The cultivation system is pretty unique too. Sure, we've got the usual spirit beasts and cultivation techniques, but the way it's mixed with business and commerce? That's different! And don't even get me started on that mysterious "system" that seems to be glitching out. That's some interesting stuff right there!
Yes, sometimes I have to reread parts because the vocabulary is a bit too fancy for my limited English skills (looking at you, chapter 7!), but honestly? It's worth it. The story keeps me hooked with its mix of action, humor, and clever plot twists.
Bottom line? If you're looking for a cultivation story that's different from the usual "young master beats everyone up" type, give this one a shot!

This story has serious potential but contains far too many disconnected settings and characters without association or drawn connections. Additionally, there are at least two power systems and at least two Systems--but no foreshadowing or description regarding how they interact.
At one point, a character starts quoting from a book they are reading--and I thought it was yet another character set because of the existing lack of coordination!
I would keep reading if settings and characters were clarified or resolved together--especially Jun's past and his multiple power-personalities.
