First Necromancer: A System's Descent LitRPG

Description
Hey everyone! I'm currently in the process of releasing the rewritten book 1 of the story, and it should be fully updated by the middle or end of Feb. 2024, after which I will be adding chapters from Book 2 a couple times a week. Book 3 is on hold while I polish things up in preparation for the Amazon release. For everyone new here, I am a new author and began my journey in creative writing in Jan. 2023. I have no formal education in writing, however I was impatient in waiting for new books of my favorite LitRPG series to come out, so I decided to have fun and gave it a shot. The story has a dark setting as civilization falls to pieces and the people with power become to the new law of the land, this darkness is balanced with wholesome, comedic, and enjoyable scenes that flesh out the characters and their interactions with one another. You will find elements of classic LitRPG adventures, bits of slice of life moments, and hot-blooded combat. The MC starts out as average, then becomes strong, and finally stronger. While there may be times where he feels OP, the things he's up against can, and do beat the snot out of him at times.
Content warning tags are there to allow me to explore the story I'm creating, and while I try to avoid showing some of the more sensitive subjects and the trauma involved, if you're looking for it you will notice it. There's a fair bit of cursing, however sexual content is very, very low. Between the two books worth of content that I've written so far, there's only one scene that's sexual in nature and its not directly observed. The violence in the story is fairly graphic, but not to the point of the entire series being riddled with gore.
It is my hope that you enjoy this story and you share it with the people closest to you. If you find yourself smiling while reading it, please consider leaving a positive review if you're so inclined.

- sikijaxsonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Nice!!!After 31 chapters I can say that until then it is a great work!!!!
From the characters, to the story development to the world building.
I would like to see Dirk maybe a little more focused on the grind or become stronger and the rest of the farm tasks left to the others, but no idea maybe he concentrates later more on his levels 😅
All in all great work from the author.
I hope he continues like this and if necessary he posts more per week - Apannr1Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story is just getting started and has some rough edges here and there. But it's a lot of fun and shows a ton of potential. I'm looking forwards to seeing where it goes and reading chapter after chapter as they're releases. I highly recommend gicing the story a try!
- K.A.ORoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0As an aspiring author myself I applaud you. The chapters you have so far are pretty good. Also enjoyed your minor dig at another quite famous litrpg series. I see where you are coming from in regards to the whole panic/not panic debate, and it's a welcome relief from the typical litrpg. Some might disagree but after reading countless works where the MC becomes a panic ridden mess, it's actually refreshing to not go full tilt into that. All in all I enjoyed your work and look forward to more. Great job.
- KyriakosRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I re-listened to the Audible.  Sure hope this isn't dead 😞 Please continue the story, it is one of my favorite thus far on rr and even Audible (you chose a very good narrator). If you could, please post a status chapter to keep people abreast of the situation concerning this story, it would be greatly appreciated 😀.
- Marc MuleroRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story had me laughing out loud since chapter one. I see that many of the readers took issue with ColdFang’s over description of Drew falling on the floor and peeing all over himself. But for me, it worked, and set the tone of some lighthearted humor in an otherwise daunting situation.
I liked the idea that the MC was a bit older, married, yet still had a childish sense of humor about him. Drew embodies a blend of compassionate husband with giddy farmer-turned-necromancer, while also, somehow, making some extreme decisions without freaking out. The abilities are cool, and I'm getting some Diablo 2 vibes from both the cover and the progression (which is a good thing!).
There are some tiny grammatical mishaps in terms of dialogue punctuation, but it didn’t at all trip me up. And even if it did, the story is so addicting that it was easy to look past it. The pacing is solid. We move from home life, to necromancing within five chapters, which is good enough for me.
Most of all, I’m really enjoying the dynamic between Drew and Spock. The story comes alive with Drew’s earthly banter bouncing off of a system apocalypse guide. Overall, you should give this story ago – it’s a fun ride from the beginning. - PhyrekasterRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I found this to be surprisingly good from the very start. Most novels don't grab my attention immediately and this one has. Drew is a great character who feels relatable and completely normal... until you realize he's supposed to be super smart albeit with mental problems, and just can't be bothered to care enough to really think through all these new things and rather just kinda sticks to what he knows. Probably the dhamphir influence.... and bumbles his way into an absolute nightmarish eldritch being build. Classic system apocalypse with classes, levels, professions, etc. Highly recommend
- PrinceofPersiansRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This book is a bit of chaos, but I love it. The sounds and noises make you feel like you're experiencing the book through his experience. The characters are likable and funny. The names of the characters get me too! So far a great book to read, can't wait to see what else comes out of this one.
- Rivalcavalier1962Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Usually a Necromancer is a villain, or, at best, an anti-hero. Drew is neither. Furthermore, he is uncomfortable in his role as the heroic leader of his small band of survivors. All he really wants to do is protect his family and friends and enjoy some domestic tranquility. However, all his efforts to do so net him greater responsibilities as the leader of a growing island of stability in a world of System spawned monsters, beasts, chaos and unleashed human depravity.
An excellent read, for those who like the LitRPG sub-genre of Fantasy and like complex protagonists. - SplatFuRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0An engrossing read! Hard to believe it's the author's first story. Good pace, with humor and the right touch of believability.
Characters that feel real in a story that could be, if system integration was an actual thing. Starting from the very beginning, with a pre-release character, the world building is top notch. It makes me preemptively feel bad for the System that has no idea what it's in for. This is going to a story that friends will thank you for pointing them to.
The author has an excellently crafted world, that they obviously take great delight in sharing with their readers. Their world is described well enough to be seen in the minds eye, without being bogged down in extraneous verbiage.
In short, the story is highly recommended and I'm very much looking forward to many many chapters more, in this almost realistic fantasy world.
Gah, long review is long. Story is good. Storyteller puts right words in good order to make reader want more words. Should probably add story to list of stories you are reading. Tell other people that like stories that this is a story they should see if they like. - AmazonPrimeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0What a captivating beginning! The story really draws the reader in with the imagery and witty dialogue. I love the Character Creation sequence and can really see the angst in the main character already, not to mention the dynamic between them and the other characters (also can we get some of the spicy alluded to with the love interest? Yes please!). I can't believe this is a newer author, they seem very established and comfortable with word play and personality. I am super Excited to find out what happens next!
