Description
First Born Ascension takes place in the Solar Retaliation Universe, where humanity has colonized our solar system. The prequel, detailing the Liberation War of Mars and how the Vagabonds came to such prominence, is available on Kindle Unlimited for free.
Plagued by trade disputes, terror attacks, state-funded hacking, and economic hardship exploited by corporations, the Parliament of our solar system is hanging on by a thread. To make matters worse, Mars has fully overthrown their corporate masters, severely disturbing trade and peace as Martian Mercenaries and terrorists flock outward toward greener pastures. In the midst of chaos, at the worst time possible, humanity has discovered they are not alone in the universe. Representatives of a citadel in space, called Zion, comprised of the scholars, scientists, and military elite of most space-traveling civilizations have made contact, sending representatives in humanoid forms known as Professors to assist humans, in an attempt to bring our solar system into the intergalactic fold. Unfortunately, they are not the only power at work, and the clock has started to wind down as both Zion and the Parliament try desperately to bring Humanity into the fold before the dark powers beyond our solar system get to us.
Follow the Nameless Bounty hunter, a self-freed slave, and Leader of the Martian Vagabonds who overthrew the corporate masters, as he tries to integrate the Vagabonds into Zion to gain training and equipment to protect a newly freed mars. Read along as Staff Sergeant Rachel, a lone survivor of a destroyed planet who was rescued by the Zion task forces, and joined the foreign fighter corps vowing vengeance on the dark aliens that destroyed her world. Will she complete her mission, or become another dog tag nailed to the walls of the Task Force barracks walls? Join along as the third Protagonist, a 50-year-old man stunted at ten years -old, a former Martian Child Labor Cyborg, Captian Spider, as he tries to get back home. He doesn't know what planet he's on, or how he got there, but he wants to be reunited with his Vagabonds.

- Ace-omiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Hey there, fellow sci-fi fans! I just finished reading First Born Ascension, and let me tell you, it was an amazing ride! As someone who hasn't read the prequel, I was a bit confused at first with some of the terms and references, but the author did an excellent job of weaving them into the story without overwhelming me with exposition.
The three main protagonists, the Nameless Bounty Hunter, Staff Sergeant Rachel, and Captain Spider, all have their own unique backstories and motivations that make them interesting to follow. The dialogue-heavy narrative was a bit dizzying at first, but it quickly drew me in and made me feel like I was right there with the characters, experiencing everything they were going through.
The battles and fights are described in vivid detail, making it easy to visualize the action as it unfolds. And let me tell you, there are some truly epic battles in this book! The scale of the conflict is mind-boggling, with gods, reincarnation, and religious motifs thrown into the mix.
Overall, I highly recommend First Born Ascension to any sci-fi fans out there who enjoy complex world-building, character-driven stories, and action-packed battles. Just be warned, if you're looking for a straightforward action and explosions story, this might not be for you. But if you're willing to dive deep into a richly detailed universe full of intrigue and conflict, you won't be disappointed! - Haya336Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0After reading the Authors frist book, I was definitley excited to read this. Big improvement from the first book, still lots of dialogue so maybe dial that back a bit? The fights scenes are very discriptive and the character developement is loveley! I wasn't expecting gods, reincarnation and the motifs of religon in a space opera like this, so I would warn future readers if thats not your cup of tea and you simply want actions and explosions this may not be for you. As a Percy Jackson kid I tend to look for stories liek these and wasn't disapointed.
- M.G DriverRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I must preface this review with an admission that I did not read Book 1 of the Solar Retaliation Series. This means that the rest of the review will take this into account.
So far while I have obviously missed out on a fair amount of character exposition and details that would have been present in the first one, this book seems good enough to stand on it's own and deliver a gripping story in itself without reading the prequel. That's how good it is.
The RoyalRoad standard for reviews is 5 for readable, anything below five means there were critical errors in the reading experience, so I'm glad to say I found none at all.
Style:
Fast sharp dialogue that hits hard - the dialogue really sells the characters and the scene that they are currently in. For a first time reader, this might be a bit dizzying especially when there are multiple characters in a single conversation. For me, the initial confusion went away after a few paragraphs so its a 5/5 for me.
The description of the battles and fights are on-point with full visualization, the author never missing a beat or lacking details that impedes the reader from imagining the scene. Simply amazing.
Story:
This is probably the best part of the book, where the underlying world lore and details got the most attention from me. Because I did not read the first book, it did create a sort of mystery aspect to me as it was my first time encountering some of the brand new terms like Vagabonds, Light-Bearers and so-on.
That's where the good part kicks in - the author neatly weaves these terms into dialogue, while the scene and context does the explanation for you rather than the characters directly. Perfect example of show don't tell, and I myself as an author dare not do this on RoyalRoad, so another fantastic job.
Other than that, the sequence of events so far has set up a rapidly building tension of an upcoming war that will affect all our characters (the three POVs), which has me very excited to see. I might backtrack and read
