Description

At sixteen, Leigh had lived in her brother's shadow for as long as she could remember.

No matter how hard she tried, studied, worked or trained... she always fell short of his accomplishments.

But all of her shortcomings would not matter, not if she managed to get Selected First...

On the night of the Selection, a shocking turn of events propel her into the path she's always dreamed of, but success turned out to be not what she expected.

It was dark with a bitter aftertaste.

While I normally go for the litrpg stories here on rrl, I gotta say that I have fallen in love with this sci-fi story that greatly reminds me of the book enlisted (might be terms of enlistment) by... uhhh well some guy. Super great author.
    Anyway..
i really kinda have to give it top marks (which is all I tend to give as I only feel motivated enough to review the stories that I find the most interesting) because it has, as of chapter 6, everything a good story needs. It has a great flow, a great plot, an elite, yet believable main protagonist and interesting set of characters.
im honestly looking forward to seeing how this story evolves and I can't wait until the next chapters comes out. Which will most likely be in a week or so [insert sad face here]
the slow updates are worth it though as this story clearly values quality over the small yet frequent updates.
a little thing that I have noticed though is that the author has a seemingly intense idolization for this Unice person. But truly, you are honestly great in your own way. And you don't have a monthly schedule >.> *looks accusingly at Unice*

SnowMelts, hats off to you, my dear author. You had started to craft yet another masterpiece in the world of literature. I must confess, I've been an avid follower of your work ever since the enthralling "BreakDown." Then, "First Academy" seized my literary heart, and it's clear you wre well on your way to honing your craft to a fine edge.
This is story is science fiction at its finest, and I'm not just saying that. Your ability to deliver a plot with tantalizing morsels of intrigue, carefully revealed piece by piece, is truly commendable. It keeps me grounded, engaged, and entirely addicted. Your storytelling leaves me simultaneously satisfied and craving for more – a delicate balancing act that you execute with grace.
Style-wise, you've proven yourself to be a maestro. I'm hard-pressed to find any significant style issues. It's almost as if you hold a degree in writing or literature. The few minor hiccups don't detract from the overall brilliance of your work.
Now, let's talk grammar. I've noted a handful of minor errors in each chapter but they are minuscule and rarely affect the story's flow.
Story-wise, "First Academy" is a marvel. I could easily prattle on for hours, but I'll spare you the lengthy diatribe. The plot is simply fantastic, as are the settings you've created. Most importantly, your characters are a highlight. possessing depth, and feel remarkably human.
In conclusion, SnowMelts, you've delivered another gem to your adoring readers. "First Academy" is an exemplary work, and it's earned its place on my list of the finest stories here on RRL. My only plea is for more updates. I, for one, am eagerly awaiting the next chapter, and I'm sure I'm not alone in this sentiment.

    Style:
    Concise yet descriptive when needed.
    Grammar mistakes:
    Nigh extinct. Solid 4,5 stars.
    Story:
Let's count stars together, shall we?
Sci-Fi on RR. One star.                                                        +
    Original setting? One star                                                    +
Well thought out and logical progression of events. One star. +
    Proper Foreshadowing. One star                                         +
Creepy, gore-filled twist right at the start? One star.              +
    Total: Ding-Ding! Five stars!
    Characters:
The real gem of this story. Fleshed-out, believable characters that are not cardboard cutouts. With constant insight into Leigh's ever-changing thoughts and feelings, the reader can actually experience her growth as they read.
Other characters are distinct and have multiple aspects to their personalities, even if those are only subtly hinted at.

What can I say. SnowMelts, you're a fantastic author and you should release more often, if you can.
Before this book existed, I fell in love with BreakDown, which was just as good. While, like @Fluffigenius, I mostly read LitRPG here on RRL, science fiction is by far my favorite; and this is really good science fiction.
Overall score, I give this top marks. This is one of the best works of fiction that I've read here on RRL, even with only 9 released chapters (they're pretty long chapters). I'm a huge fan of how well SnowMelts delivers the plot, little dribbles at a time just large enough to keep your interest but not enough so that you can really predict very far ahead accurately. It leaves you grounded, and makes sense, but doesn't spoil the story.
Stylistically, I also give this top marks. I've never found a single impactful style issue, and only a few really minor ones. I wouldn't be surprised if SnowMelts has a degree in writing or literature, if it wasn't for:
Grammar. I give this 4 stars because there's some small errors in every chapter (5-6 normally). These don't really have any impact on the story and they're not that noticeable unless you're kind of detail-oriented like I am, AND they're also generally fixed by Unice (the goddess of writing, writes "Fantasia" and also a imo much better but less-released read, "Eterna's Source") when she comes along, edits, and SnowMelts finally gets around to releasing the edits here on RRL.
Story-wise, this story is amazing. I could go on forever and ever about this but this is starting to get really long already. TL;DR the story is freaking great. I love the plot, I love the settings, and most importantly I love the:
Characters: They're fantastic. There's only 9 chapters, so there's still a lot more character development to go, but so far the main character is fairly well defined and the secondary characters, for the most part, are very human. I feel like there should be either more or less definition of the main charac

Oh, goodness where do I start? There are few science fiction stories on this site, and even fewer as well thought out as this one. Just because the chapters say "unedited," does not mean they don't feel polished. As @Fluffigenius said, the sheer quality (and chapter length) more than makes up for the slow release rate.
I have high hopes for this story.
