Description

A fading House in need of a Knight.

A mysterious Warrior searching for purpose.

A thriving Star Nation poised on the brink of war.

Across the vast reaches of human space war brews between rising powers, and the fragile balance that has kept the Hyperion Cluster from collapsing into chaos is beginning to unravel. Into this storm walks Arthur Magellan—a skilled Freelancer drawn to the seemingly idyllic Graecian Ascendancy by a force he cannot name. He does not know why he is here, only that something compels him forward; whispering of destiny and danger that sings within his blood.

While navigating political intrigue, ancient rivalries, and military escalation; Arthur finds himself caught between powerful factions vying for dominance. The Graecian Ascendancy, a Star Nation built off the ancient and timeless aspirations of Greek Antiquity, stands on the precipice of total war with the ruthless Parthian Empire: precipitating a conflict that could throw billions into the jaws of death.

But as battle lines are drawn, Arthur begins to uncover unsettling truths—not just about the conflict, but about himself; for deep within him lies something far more dangerous than any warship or battlefleet. With the fate of the Hyperion Cluster and potentially the entire Rim at stake, Arthur must decide who he truly is and what role he is meant to play in the war to come.

As long-buried secrets resurface and whispers of the past threaten to consume him, one question remains: will he be the salvation of the Ascendancy, or its doom?

Only one thing is certain: the path to the truth will be paved by blood and steel.

The last time I reviewed Hannibal’s work I got a weird sense of familiarity from the prose, which, to me, immediately elevated the appeal. I very much enjoy his prose, between the feeling of immediacy and the way he paints the environment and situation.
    >Story
This is a mecha novel, but also a space opera. It starts with a high-octane action scene, but it’s a mecha novel that is also a space opera. Do you understand what I’m telling you? Go watch Legend of the Galactic Heroes. Go watch Gasaraki (sucks, right? haha yeah it’s great). Point is, you will read your space politics and you will like it. This is part of the appeal. We like this.
Jokes aside, the story takes its time getting started, which might be a turn-off if your attention span is fried, but I find the lead-up to the cool robot to be almost as important a part of the mecha genre as the cool robot fights themselves.
    >Grammar
    No errors.
    >Characters
If I had a nickel for every novel I've reviewed recently with a major character best described as “genetically engineered psychic gigachad” I would have two nickels which isn’t much but it’s weird that it’s happened twice.
The side characters are cool and largely believable so far, but I’m not yet deep enough to make serious judgments.
    >Overall
I had two options going into this review swap. I picked this because “mmm me likey big robot” and at time of review I’ve mostly been reading worldbuilding and geopolitics. The fact I don’t mind this in the slightest is testament enough to the quality of Hannibal’s writing.

"It's an excellent work. The chapter introductions add depth to the story, making the environment truly immersive. The transitions between the MC’s past and present are very well executed. The romance could be more developed, adding another layer to the narrative. I hope there are many chapters! Keep it up—you’ll go far. Hugs from Brazil!"

I don’t know how you can’t love this authors works but this story is just as interesting as all of his others.  From the opening scene it grabs you and keeps you in. No wasted words and they all drag you to keep reading.Definitely read this and I can’t wait to see more of what happens in the future.

The best part of Hannibals stories imo is how flawlessly he narrates between the MCs thoughts and what happens around him. As a result of this, the level of immersion he creates for the reader to imagine is solid and doesnt feel tiresome bc of his literary experience and it shows through this story. For the actual story itself, theres not much to go on considering its only eight chapters in, but hes already delivered what i think is an opener that will absolutely catch your interest and haven't you read the story in the long run. And so far, from having read multiple of Hannibal's stories, he wont disappoint you.
My only small gripe is his naming schemes could use work, bc ive seen the words of ascendancy or Imperium be used for multiple organizations for some of his different stories.
Im also doing this bc some idiot already did a 0.5 rating on the story that's gonna tank the ratings. The story hasn't even been released for half a week and ppl are already giving it bad ratings smh.

First time writing a review on RR so forgive me if there’s any conventions I missed out.
Overall, I’ve been enjoying it so far because the genre scratches my itches but there are two main issues that are plaguing this story that’s wearing out my attention span.
There’s a lot of telling and almost no showing. Except for the first chapter there have been zero combat and eidolons. Technology levels and terms are mentioned but not shown in action. Past lives/personalities are told and not shown. There’s no difference between Zacaris and Magellan because his personality was barely built before he got his old memories back and yet we’re just told his experiences are overriding who he was as a person.
The other issue is a lack of conflict. Arthur is just falling into the flow of things. He’s not actively doing anything and that can work if there’s a conflict forcing him to only react but there’s nothing. There’s zero pressure being put on him and nothing seems to have any real stakes.
I’m still enjoying the story but it has been 20+ chapters since the last Eidolon and it’s starting to feel like the story that was promised isn’t what is being written.
