Final Ember

Hey all, this is my first work of fiction, and while I'm not totally confident in myself I feel like I need to get this out there or else I'll stagnate.  Also my first language is in fact English, so feel free to make fun of me for any grammar mistakes. And yes, I perfer Times New Roman. Kick me.

Derek Ayers was a curious child, the son of an artificer, He loved to dismantle his mother's creations, seeing what made them tick. In his endless curiosity he fiddled with something heShouldn't've, a device his mother told him never to touch. One that glowed red.
