Ferrian's Winter
Community Rating
Description
Ferrian has been running his whole life. Running, because he has no choice. Wherever he goes, Winter follows. Wherever he sleeps, frost creeps at his door. From town to town he hastens, frightened, tired; forever trying to keep one step ahead of the cold, the snow and the devastating storms.
It is a kind of curse, and Ferrian has no idea what it means. Only someone with a knowledge of magic might be able to to help him, but sorcerers are nearly extinct in the world. Two brothers remain, however; the last of their once-noble kind, holed up in a secluded valley, waging their own private and very personal war.
Ferrian, captured by the local law enforcers, finds himself unexpectedly amongst friends sympathetic to his cause, and together they set out on an adventure-filled quest to find the last sorcerers.

This story is not a webnovel, or a LitRPG, but written as a traditional fantasy book.
It is updated when I have new chapters (they take time to write). There is a completed story arc up to Chapter 109. Chapters after that comprise the third and fourth books, which are currently in progress.
No part of my writing has, or EVER will use AI assistance.
And it sucks that I even have to add this disclaimer, but here we are. I have been writing stories since I could pick up a pencil.Ferrian's Winterhas been in development for twenty-five years, first published on Elfwood (circa 2000). It was self-published for sale in 2017. All writing, editing and formatting has always been done wholly by me. My book covers are hand-drawn.

- Bill RossRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This book is great, one of the best high quality books I've read on this site. It reads like a true fantasy book, not a web serial.
Style -
This book's style whilst normal is executed amazingly, nothing new, but as long as it's done well it doesn't matter. And this is done well.
Story -
Great story incredibly sad yet you feel at the top of the world the next chapter, it is not a happy story, but it's lows are always there for the story, and all the characters actually feel apart of the story. Only not 5 stars because one of the main plot points is about a miscommunication issue, which is a tad basic. But at least it's explained well. The other ½ loss is from some of the plot twists being kinda obvious.
Grammar -
Whilst I never explicitly looked for these issues I never noticed any, which is good in my book.
Character -
Five stars, amazing, superb, the problems and reactions feel relatable and not just what would happen to an Mc with plot armor, certainly not a Mary sue. And all the other characters feel real with their own story. And you are brought along with the highs and lows.
Overall -
Give this a read, one of the best books and well written books I have read on this site, whilst grimdark at times, not overtly so. If you're on the fence just give the book a read. - CarbonCopyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I don't rate many stories at 5*. That said, the story is quite solid with characters that feel real and events that feel like they matter. It's almost criminal that the story hasn't gained more traction. If you are reading this review, you owe it to yourself to at least read the first 2 chapters.
- Mridula RRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0HOW DOES THIS STORY ONLY HAVE 2 REVIEWS?!
More people should read this. One of the better stories I have read, outstanding in terms of character and how they are portrayed, every character is thought out and relatable and that is rare.
Writing is very polished and visual in terms of surroundings. World building is gradual and slow, its more about the people and their journey. Not much is revealed only bits and pieces. But it is well paced and not boring at all. Can't wait to find out what happens next.
I usually like stories with strong female MCs and easy to read fast paced stories. This is different but I can't stop reading it. I usually read to unwind after long days and i like stories that keep moving toward the main story without detours so I did skim through the side characters descriptive parts which didn't seem to have an overall impact on the story but that's just me, I'm sure it adds depth to the overall buildup. The grammar and writing is superb hardly any typos and the vocabulary is varied and wonderful to read.
Would recommend this to everyone, it's well written and some of the best characterisations ever. Wonder why it's not trending - there are no OP MCs or snarky witty back and forths conversations that seem to be appreciated or heavy chested women and harems etc so may not have massy appeal but the story is solid and very engaging. - PizzaNatchosRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have thoroughly enjoyed this story so far. I came to the story on the recommendation of another author, and am not disappointed.
It is a fantasy adventure epic with well thought out characters and plot elements. It doesn't pull any punches either and you can tell the stakes are real. I like that there is no silly throwaway happenings. There is a lot to like here and I hope it goes on to be noticed by more readers. - Worm-watcherRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall/TL;DR:
Absolutely worth a read. This story stands out in every way, and I don't understand why it doesn't have more attention. I have no criticism. It's polished, engaging, and error-free.
Style:
While most stories on this site are distinctly 'web serials', this one isn't. It's much more refined, much neater and more polished. It reads like an actual book.
Something I particularly appreciate: exposition is given gradually; the reader can make guesses, can piece things together before being outright told.
Story:
Reading this, one can tell that the author has planned things out. Everything is written with purpose; nothing is forgotten. Things feel connected.
Readers will particularly appreciate the depth of the setting, the deliberate gaps in information, and the use of multiple perspectives to create a cohesive narrative.
Grammar:
Impeccable.
Character:
Every character in this story feels like a person. The author has done a fantastic job of making each character understandable, and compelling in their own way.
They have their own motivations. They think and act differently. They (and this is the big one) are allowed to make mistakes that last, which make the story much more interesting and engaging.
P. S.
I could say a lot more, but really, you should just give it a try. I'm not here to summarize; read the synopsis.
