When the goverment dropped the bomb. Vincent isn't sure what he expected, but it certainly wasn't this.

They weren’t zombies, not quite. They acted like they were, and looked it too. With torn flesh and the slow, clumsy way they walked. With their groans and screams as they chase you, desperate to sink their teeth into anything that so much as moves.

They were just- people despite all this. Crazed, bloodlusted people. Feral.

Might as well call them what they are, ferals. Like animals.
