- Cool-CatRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Evergrand works as the title for this story in more ways than one. The fic captures the essence of adventure as well as classic pokemon aesthetics and themes while remaining fresh and interesting.
The style feels like a travel journal of an adventure that one would find in a classic literature while telling a complex and engaging narrative. The story itself is wonderful. You quickly understand motivations, goals and the pathway the main character will take to get their. You care about him and his journey and you want him to succeed.
By far what shines in this fic is the characters. Amatsera has a lot of talent when it comes to character crafting. All characters are multilayered and fully-fleshed out. Brendan never feels like just the author’s insert rather than the teenage boy he is meant to be.
The grammar is neat and precise. You can tell a lot of effort when into crafting sentences word by word. I’m sure the average editor would find an errant typo here or there, but it is leagues above many of the other stories I’ve read on the site when it comes to clean grammar.
I’ve been following this story since before it was published. It is worth the time and investment in if you enjoy a good coming of age adventure story. - NecrungusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Ever Grande is a satisfying story of a pokemon trainer following his dreams and standing up for himself as well as what he believes in.
The style focuses heavily on the character's progression and development. The main character has his own initiative and forges his own path instead of letting the plot happen to him. The author takes the time to characterize the pokemon in the story in an interesting and compelling way instead of little more than elemental animals. The style is very deliberate. The author writes in a descriptive way, but not enough to veer into expository. There is enough here for a reader to engage with without feeling left out of the reading experience. It is a tight balance of enough description to get a vivid image across, enough narrative to drive the story forward, enough characterization to feel compelled by the characters, all without being overbearing. The author strikes that balance well, in my opinion.
The characters in this story are well written and very compelling. They will make you laugh when you should laugh and make you mad when you should be mad. The emotion and character is written into them with tact, bringing them to life. From the human characters to the pokemon characters, they’re some of my favorite parts of the novel.
The grammar is strong and purposeful. There are no egregious mistakes and the author has a diligent hand when it comes to grammar. Everyone makes some small mistakes of course, as we’re all human, but 99% of the grammar is clean and error free.
The story is a tight, fresh take on a classic pokemon story: a young trainer setting out on their first journey. That is far from all that is here, however. Intrigue and conflict arise quickly as the world develops steadily and our MC finds his place and his side in that conflict. The worldbuilding is another point I’ll give for the author. It isn’t always an easy thing to make an established setting feel new, yet familiar at the same time, and the author does a great j - illeraynRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Very interesting story so far.
The team is building up very organically chapter by chapter, each with their own personality, and are very different than what team I would have made. The Vibrava addition is however a very pleasant for my Flygon lover mind.
The MC feels like a kid in his mistakes, but is learning from these and get better and better as he should.
Anyway, thanks for writing, and have a nice day !
