Life hasn't gone the way Warren thought it would. More than mere nostalgia, the cynical idealist now believes his best years are behind him. Change is inevitable, but it isn't always good.

The sun will burn out like Warren anyway. Before then, the Earth will burn-up. And even before then, by all appearances the world is going to be destroyed in a nuclear war.

Warren's cosmically insignificant efforts to become a teacher backfired. Likewise, his every hope and good intention paved the way to a cul-de-sac, and time is a one-way street. Naturally, he devises one more plan in spite of the signs that read: No Outlet.

Warren, an ordinary young man of suburbia, finds a whole new meaning in "dead-end job."
