A young man trapped in an unfair world, without the status to bring about change.
Combined, they will have both means and status.

"Okay, first step: Let's make some Brandy."
...that's a maybe then.
Author's note: I love the idea of kingdom-building novels and think the genre has a lot to offer, but I don't think many authors do them very well. Here is my attempt. The novel has a strong focus on politics and kingdom building, with occasional action and a bit of humor. Have fun.

- zdenek24Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Its long overdue for advanced review, but here we go:
The story follows a prince, who has gained knowledge of modern life and different inventions thoughout history. First off, so far the most sensible explanation of why MC knows more stuff than averige person, and how it sometimes conflics with his own personal views.
As he continues to unravel more stuff, and gets progressivly richer, he gains a large amount of opposition who either seeks to gain his products, power, or straigh up kill him. As others said, this may sometimes feel a bit like failure porn, however these people dont realize Mc is most playing long con. It takes many chapters or even books for result to pay off, but when it does, its on multiple fronts.
Character-wise, thoughout the story we see different characters slowly evolving and learning from their mistakes, king Pacha is a good example. After his humiliation he becomes a somewhat sensible and competent ruler, and regrets his previous mistakes.
World building is very well thought out, with even climates and landmass positions being taken into account. All countries and continents have their own culture and society, often inspired by real exaples. MC is thus locked into arms race with other kingdoms who are entering renessaince era. Cultivation plays a background role, but is very well used to justify longevity of diffectnt characters.
I frankly do not k now what to write about grammar. It is impecable until maybe the last book, where you can find missing words or wrong letter.
So yeah, if you want kingdom building which is realistic and does not make the MC too overpowered, definitely check it out. Just beware true kingdom building starts in around book 3. - NiwaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I enjoyed the start, but then it became bloated text where mc defends against underhanded means and saved by luck, and he counter attack with unnecessary fair means and repeat.
Im tired of how things are in book 2 so its just skip and skip and nothing much changed, basically he returns, bad situations + bad treatment so he left for Saniya.
He saved the city and they treated him badly later, because the world doesn't freaking care about fairness, its about satisfying interest, gaining loudest voice, power, and brainwash. That's how french revolution succeed and Napoleon also satisfied those above so he got more power rather than repercussions after he robbed the fruit of labor of the revolutionists with force. And people still revered him after centuries passed.

Gets better at book 3 and 4 - StultusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Good grammar
Good idea
Adds up to good potential
Look forward to seeing more. - ValentineNRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Well written and well thought out.
The MC is smart, makes plans, but unlike other similar stories, life always screws things up. The timing is bad or someone does something unexpected, things sometimes just fail.
This MC doesn't get a magic trick to pull himself to the top, unlike those other books. He fails, then finds another way to turn things around. Logic, hard work and loyalty from his friends are what set him apart.

Usually, I wouldn't rate it a full 5 stars, but it's lower rating prevented me from finding it for all these months and that pisses me off. - AdinolfiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0How to say, maybe this novel is the first that introduce different nations, with different religion and way of life, and actually follow that in their action. Everything is well fleshed, and we can perceive that it's not something written casual. The story is captivating, the characters have all different way of thinking and not just some random names who talk and do things like everyone. I don't understand why this novel isn't in trending, but I'm sure that it'll continue to grow and catch followers as long as the author continue this way.
If I have to say something that I didn't like about the novel, (but I have to be really hard to find it and just because I want to find one thing) it's about cultivation of mc and in general in the novel, we can't understand how it works and what are the consequences, I mean, we understand it give you strenght and help with age, but how much? are there really no different level?
In conclusion I really advice you to read it and let the author take you in the journey of our mc, and be sure, you'll enjoy it. - ExcelsiorRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This book stands out as one of the finest in the genre of kingdom-building. Its plot and developments surpass many counterparts, such as Mediterranean Hegemon of Ancient Greece, Release that Witch, Yama Rising, and Black Iron's Glory. The storytelling competes with top-notch works. While no tale is flawless, the narrative unfolds skillfully, maintaining solid grammar throughout. The plot, reaching well above average, deserves an 'amazing' rating.
In my view, it outshines Tyranny of Steel. I highly recommend it for enthusiasts of fantasy world-building, featuring interesting maps, a medieval/Renaissance atmosphere, and an intelligent protagonist. The narrative has wars, cunning adversaries, kingdom economics, technology advancement (but not too much), politics, and geopolitics, making it a captivating read for those who appreciate such elements. If you enjoy a combination of world-building intricacies and a smart protagonist navigating through a world of war, political intricacies, and strategic adversaries, then this book is a must-read for you. - MirroredRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Reminds me more of a BAEN Books novel than something on Royal Road.
Strengths: Well crafted and sympathetic characters that aren't cliches or overdone. Good worldbuilding with distinct cultures and realistic human behaviour. An engaging plot that doesn't pander to the main character.
Flaws: A lack of foreshadowing and exposition makes some events seem to come from nowhere. Very important characters, laws or rituals just appear without any real context. For a hyper realistic novel such as ths one, the main character's immunity and complete indifference to assination is a little offputting. Assasins seem to have been made completly inept to make up for the lack of MC powers. Especially considering the existence of low powered superhumans that could kill the MC with a single punch or arrow. The existence of said cultivators is also a little odd and underdeveloped.
An interesting read. Excited to see where it goes. - IrjaRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0The story is 4 star. Its good but it ramble too much.
Non OP MC, knowledgeable. Building the basic of industrial revolution first before expanding. Its believable. Unlike some country building where things are solved with magic and MC magic provide all the necessity (kinda like that shota undead novel).
Its all good. However, the bad things (or something to be improved) are;
Please note that I am comparing this to Se7en n Release that witch for country building.
1. Perhaps a bit more saucy romance? More interaction between MC n his love interest? I thought we gonna have a yandere harem member...thatd be good, but alas, its not to be. But, I guess harem route is a big no no as well.
2. MC story line is too all over the place. Author should make MC delegate his task so that things could happen "off screen" while author focus on MC story progression. Heck, theres no need to try to make it too realistic, after all, its a world of cultivation. Perhaps cultivation could speed up the process, kinda like magic was used to speed up the process in RTW...and anime-tech (thats what I name it) was used in 7.
3. Too much time is passing with slow story progression. Again, readers (thats me) want to know what happen next, not the many small details of industrialization.
Thats all I could think off. Anyway, a pity its hiatus. - any7iimeRoyal Road★★ 2.0Rating: ★★☆☆☆ (2/5 stars)
Enlightened Empire, a highly anticipated novel by a promising author, unfortunately falls short of its potential. Despite its ambitious premise, the execution leaves much to be desired, resulting in a lackluster reading experience.
One of the main letdowns of this novel is its world-building. While the author attempts to create a rich and intricate universe, the result feels disjointed and poorly developed. The descriptions lack depth and fail to paint a vivid picture in the reader's mind. The cultures, landscapes, and history of the world feel superficial and underexplored, leaving the reader disconnected and disengaged from the setting.
The characters in Enlightened Empire are equally disappointing. They lack depth and fail to elicit any genuine emotional investment from the reader. The protagonist, touted as enigmatic and morally ambiguous, comes across as one-dimensional and uninteresting. The supporting characters are forgettable, with their arcs feeling forced and contrived. Their motivations and actions often seem arbitrary, undermining the believability of the story.
Furthermore, the novel's exploration of political themes and power dynamics is heavy-handed and lacking nuance. Rather than engaging readers in thoughtful introspection, the author relies on clichéd tropes and shallow symbolism. The political intrigue feels predictable, and any potential for complexity or depth is squandered.
The pacing of Enlightened Empire is another significant issue. The narrative drags in numerous sections, making it difficult to maintain interest in the story. The plot lacks cohesion, with subplots that seem disconnected and contribute little to the overall arc. The lack of tension and suspense further exacerbates the pacing problems, leaving readers feeling disengaged and uninvested in the outcome.
Despite its flaws, the prose in Enlightened Empire is serviceable. The author's writing style is straightforward, but it fails to make a lasting impre - highblast21Royal Road★ 1.0After binge reading it again( more like speed reading actually), I forgot how this novel reminds me of Chinese novels where everyone and their mother disses the MC. But unlike those novels, here the MC just grits his teeth and accepts it like a dimwit. He keeps talking that he'll make an empire of renown but lacks the spine to, at the very least diss back at his conspirators.
If I wanted political drama I would've watched a congressional hearing on the internet. I'm again reminded of why I dropped this one in the past. I came to read for kingdom building, inventions and action. Sadly this novel has far and few between any of them.
