Description

Isaac and Laila Hall were spending a usual evening in their residence when a peculiar event took place in the sky. Through mysterious powers, they were both taken to an alternate world with magic and monsters that were once considered mere fiction. Now they must battle against foes that threaten not only their lives, but the world they live in as they rely on each other.

And suddenly there were monsters. And magic, plus a System in place. We follow two siblings after the start of a monster/system apocalypse. There are differences to the common trope, though. The apocalypse is slow in going, the general populace isn't thrust into the new world from one second to another - there is time to adapt to the new reality. As per Chapter 5, we as Humans do as always: try to wait it out, and raise a new committee.
The siblings, though, are transported to a dungeon to grind their Stats and Skills.
Story: it's a dungeon dive up to now, with a system/monster apocalypse in the background. There is potential here. 5
Style: nothing inherently bad. My only problem is with the dialogues, the way the MCs are talking with each other feels a little bit unreal and artificial. I don't know if real people would talk that way, or in those situations (in the middle of a life-and-death battle, they take their time to discuss). I will go with a 4,5
Grammar: the basic grammar is quite good, I didn't notice typos or mistakes (not a native speaker, though), however, the author tends to slip into present tense quite often. I will go with a 4,5
Characters: I do have some issues with the MCs. While they are quite nicely fleshed out, they don't behave, talk or react befitting their age. The brother is a teen and the sister isn't much older either, but without knowing their approximate age, I would peg both as thirty-something veterans. They are overly calm and adapt to fighting and killing without a problem. On the other hand, they do make idiotic choices (instead of packing stuff, the sister just watches TV, and they split up in the middle of a dungeon). I don't see a motivation for doing certain things. It doesn't hinder the reading experience much, but suspending disbelief is sometimes hard. A 4.

I have to say, there are few things that I enjoy than an apocalypse story. And while it's hard to create anything truly unique in the genre these days, this author has a fresh take on many of the tired tropes. And the charactesr are immediately likeable and sympathetic, which makes it much easier to enjoy the story. All-in-all, it was an enjoyable and easy read.
Style - The author writes in a snappy first person point of view, and the action scenes are incredibly fun. I have to say I prefer this style to the more dense writing that leaves me trying to interpret a page long paragraph. And the dialogue is also exceptionally well crafted, with fun interactions between a believable brother and sister.
Grammar - The author does a solid job with the grammar, but there are a few instances of the tense changing mid chapter. However, this doesn't detract from the story, and it should be easily remedied in future pass throughs.
Story - The story is the real draw here, and the author has crafted an immediately interesting world, with a budding mystery, fun monsters, and a harrowing situation for the protagonists. I especially enjoyed the monsters and the dungeon setup, though I don't want to spoil anything by going into it in depth.
Character - It's still early in the story to really judge the characters, but from what I've seen so far, they're fun and interesting, though the brother is incredibly reckless. I'll have to update this later as I progress further into the story.
