Description
What if Elvis is alive, your roommate, and you were an officer in an alien invading military? What if he went on a crazy journey in prison and on the run. All this and more await.
This started as a shitpost based on a joke from a TTRPG campaign my friends an I are playing. It is written through the POV of voicemails, police reports, and journal entries.all action successes were decided by dice rolls. It's been a labor of love and absurdity. Hope you enjoy!

- ShoggothShapedRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style: The story is told in the style of a series of first-person voicemails detailing the protagonist's adventures in trying to track down their missing roommate and figure out why magic and aliens are suddenly all over. I truly love the way this story is written! The bite-sized pieces make it easy to devour tons of chapters at once, and the flow is exceptionally clear and consistent. The peek behind the curtain that lets us see the character rolls adds depth and drives home the TTRPG origins of the setting. I also love the way it sticks to its premise of voicemails and reports, but not so rigidly as to strain disbelief. When the story needs another perspective or type of narration, it switches seamlessly but never forgets its roots.
Story: A globe-trotting adventure as the protagonist, stranded in South America, attempts to return to the United States in order to track down their mysteriously-vanished roommate. Along the way meeting colorful characters in every country and seeing increasingly strange, magical, and even alien events. The story takes us through island and ocean, across sea and land as the protagonists attempt to cross the Caribbean on foot, ultimately aiming for North Dakota where the protagonist's missing roommate was last heard from. The narrow focus of this search slowly opens up as the protagonist encounters more and more strange people and events, until it becomes clear that something paranormal is going on in the world at large. Meanwhile, his headlong rush and secret identity are drawing a pile-up, international manhunt in his wake. The pace is quick but not rushed, every arc wrapping up without getting unnecessarily drawn-out. The humorous tone is never lost.
Grammar: The majority of the story is in the first-person perspective, epistolary-style, though who is speaking changes depending on the arc (usually switching between the protagonist and a specific, featured local from the area). Sorry, but gotta be honest, this is the weak part. The m
