Description
Twelve-year-old Dylan Maximilian’s world has just been turned upside down. After a humiliating meltdown at the funeral for his grandfather Max—the man who raised him—Dylan flees into the woods, only to stumble upon the Om—the legendary Tree of Life. The moment he touches the ancient entity, a surge of energy overwhelms him, and he collapses. When Dylan wakes up in a hospital three days later, he barely survives an attack by a black hole hellhound and receives a chilling message from his late grandfather: Dylan is destined to become Earth’s Scion, its ultimate protector, and a demonic immortal is coming to destroy him—and the planet.
With his best friend Norm, Dylan races on a reluctant journey from his New Jersey home to Mount Shasta, where he must synchronize with the Earth’s chakra and learn the connection between all that exists to fulfill his legacy. Along the way, a hidden world teeming with mythical creatures and forgotten races reveals itself, all part of a planetary alliance known as the Galaxis. As the last line of defense against the black hole overlord Necromanos, Dylan must rise to protect not just Earth, but the entire galaxy.

The author does a brilliant job at describing monsters and the sense of danger they bring.
It was easy to root for Dylan and Norm. Their bond felt real, and I enjoyed reading their interactions... both are insanely hilarious.
I'm invested enough to see where the story goes.
